The winner of the Arizona Senate
race could be seated in time for
a vote on a Supreme Court pick.

If Mark Kelly, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Arizona, unseats Senator Martha McSally, a Republican who was appointed to her seat and began serving last year, he could be sworn in as early as Nov. 30 — possibly in time to vote on a new Supreme Court nominee, elections experts said.
Hypothetically, that would narrow the Republicans’ 53-to-47 majority in the upper chamber, which may become relevant if a vote on a replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was delayed until a lame-duck session after the election.

It's a done deal. McSally has no chance. From the get go, Kelly has led her by ~ 20 points in all polls. She's been a huge disappointment; a terrible speaker who avoids public appearances at all costs.

What we need to be concerned about are the three stooges, Colllins, Murkowski and Romney.

I hope this response doesn't show up twice. The first time it disappeared.
To those who don't want to read anything from the NY Times, I submit that the original story about this was in the Arizona Republic. But the AR requires a subscription, so my alternative source was, by necessity, the New York Times.

There are three Senate Republicans that for sure will vote against any Trump nomination. So while the Republicans may have a majority by numbers in the Senate, in reality, it's the democraps that have the majority. Thank you Maine, Alaska, and Utah voters.

Depending on what happens in Senate races, the deadline for a lame duck Senate to confirm a new justice is January 3rd of next year. That is when the new Congress takes office. There are 35 seats up for election in 2020. 23 are now held by Republicans and 12 by Democrats. If the Democrats can flip 4 seats to their side, it would be impossible for President Trump to appoint another justice after January 3rd.

It also works the other way around, #11, as far as flipping seats. I would say with the current, social-political landscape, it’s more likely to work in our favor. But, with vote fraud, you never know. I choose to go with the more optimistic scenario.

Folks, republican's are going to pick up... at least one seat - Alabama - Doug Jones is politically dead man walking down here. He is even spreading that lie that President Trump called our fallen heroes "suckers & losers"... there is no way he is going to hang on to that seat - no possible way!

Just what we need. Cheerleading for Mark Kelly from the NYT, and from Glenn Thrush, of all people.
This sounds like something the Daily Kos would feature.

Disagree with previous commenter about the waste of time. It is never a waste of time to find out how democrats operate. He would be totally in bed with his democrat party, and would be as obnoxious as Romney. Who would probably become his best little buddy too. I hope McSally pulls off her win.

I understand there are some issues in Kelly's past, and I certainly hope the Republicans POLITELY mention them. And even if you are not thrilled with McSally, this is an absolutely essential election, unless you are a Bernie or an AOC (or someone even more ominous we don't know about) supporter and want THAT kind of USA Even if Biden were competent, he has so many issues in HIS closet that are being overlooked by the Press that it is frightening, plus I really reset the way he not only pushes the even Bolton denied comments about the military (and Bolton hates Trump) but implies that his son Beau died in the military, when he actually had a desk job and died of cancer 6 years later.
