Novak Djokovic, the world's No. 1 tennis player, could potentially face additional fines from the United States Tennis Association following his dramatic disqualification from the U.S. Open on Sunday night.
In addition to missing out on the $3 million in prize money up for grabs in the U.S. Open, Djokovic has been stripped of his $250,000 (£190,000) in prize money from reaching the Round of 16 of the tournament after swiping a ball away that struck a female line judge in the throat. The move was done in frustration after being broken 5-6 in the opening set against Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain.

What a fiasco. No one in the stands, covid, and then the face (more or less) of men's tennis, the nicest guy on the court, gets tossed for accidentally hitting a lineswoman. Should have just threatened to kill her, like Serena. ("I swear to God I'll effing take the ball and shove it down your effing throat.") Evidently that's a-ok with them.

That line judge is a drama queen. Watch for a lawsuit.
And other commenters are right — if Serena Williams got DQ’d for that, the screeches would be deafening from the sports and mainstream media. And the person who DQ’d her would be doxxed.

I saw the video. It was an accident. He did not mean to hit her. Shame on men's tennis for over reacting and costing the young man his chance to win and for ruining the game. We have nothing left in sports.

I watched the video clip showing the umpire disqualifying Djokovic. I will be soooo glad when those stoopid masks finally get trashed!

What a dumbass. You should always know where your ball is going and a guy of his experience should know how to handle the frustration of losing a point. You are supposed to break your racket on the court, go get a new one and nobody gets hurt. The judge could easily have lost an eye. You expect that kind of behavior from an 18-year-old John MacEnroe.
I know because I sent at a ball at a female companion on the court decades ago and hit her in the butt, which is exactly where I aimed. There was no dinner and festivities that night.

You couldn't have picked better camouflage coloration for that woman where she was standing. It worked.
But in 2020, all bad results must have an inciting bad actor . . . except for the awful results the Left has produced. They have sovereign immunity from cause and effect.

She should have been watching more closely and she might have seen the ball coming at her. That said, I gave up watching tennis when John McEnroe and his childish tantrums ruined the matches for me. Screaming at fans because they coughed or moved while he was preparing to serve, treating ball boys (girls) badly and the constant arguing with the umpires was too much.

The woman had no business being on the court calling lines when men are serving at 120+MPH unless she was agile and had good eye sight. To Novak's defense servers are given 3 balls before they serve and they usually toss one back out of the way by hitting it with their racket not looking where it is going. All the linesmen and ball boys know this and get out of the way.
She wasn't keeping her eye on the ball and paying attention.
It was a ridiculous over reaction by the tennis "higher ups" and most certainly the umpire.
Would they have penalized Arthur Ashe had he caused the same accident?

I suppose that none of you blaming the woman have ever been hit in the throat. It is the most vulnerable spot on the human body and if the ball had broken or collapsed her trachea, she could have died right there. I was punched in the throat accidentally once in a karate sparring match and it not only hurts like hell, it’s scary as hell.
The jackass player was at fault, NOT the line judge.

After viewing the event a second time I have to correct my first impression.
Novak was serving. His first serve was in. So Novak has the second ball in his hand when he won the game point. It was change court time so Novak hit his second service ball to the back court for the ball boys to feed to Carreno when it was time for him to serve. Perfectly normal course of events so far, but did Novak put too much power into hitting the ball into the back court? Probably. Was Novak aiming at the lineswoman? Definitively not. Should he have gotten a warning? Yes. Disqualified? No way.
Did the lineswoman try to get out of the way? No. Did she see the ball coming or was she not paying attention? Maybe. Or did she not have the reflexes to dodge the ball or put her hands up to deflect the ball? Probably.
