White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow opened up about his battle with alcohol and drug addiction during an event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump on Thursday. Kudlow, 73, said it would have been “unthinkable” for him to occupy his current position 25 years ago, when he left his job as a Bear Stearns financial analyst and entered a 12-step program to deal with his dependence on booze and cocaine.“I was a hopeless abuser of alcohol and drugs. I had tried several times unsuccessfully to get sober,” Kudlow said. “Like a lot of my peers and friends,

Larry is fortunate to be working for the right man who understands fully what he went through having lost a brother from alcoholism. I have followed Larry since his days at CNBC.

I'd never though about the angle #2 presents, but it's so insightful. Kudlow's journey is an inspiration to all, but must be especially powerful to those who have fought the same demons as he has/does. To be closely in orbit around Trump must surely be a daily source of strength. No doubt the President is a powerful touchstone, and, in a certain way, a protector. Keep fighting the good fight, Larry.

Thank you, Mr. Kudlow for doing something so brave and telling others about it. God bless you. You bring true strength with you. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.

Oh how blessed we are to have this man in such an important post and working beside our President. I am filled with admiration for those who are victors over addiction and refuse to be a victim of it. Many congratulations to Lawrence Kudlow and you too, #4.

A slightly distant relative by marriage, is now a totally responsible citizen, four beautiful children, a large home, paid for - not mortgaged, and a multimillionaire. By age 24 he was a unemployed drunk and was taking drugs, and had hit the bottom, his mother was a likely root cause, but that's past.
But - he recognized his problem, picked himself up, got sober, stopped the drugs, and worked his way through college. He started working in the financial industry, and eventually became a trader and financial advisor for a major financial house. He is now working on his own, doing investment and financial work for a couple of very wealthy clients, and is a millionaire many times over. And he is a genuinely nice guy, and he despises the whole NYC scene where he used to live, and is a huge Trump fan.
You CAN sort out your life after making a big mistake and you CAN work yourself back and do well, even very well.
Bravo to Larry, and another bravo to my wonderful relative, too.

Best wishes, #11. Hang in there. People tell me that it gets better. I can't say I know personally, because I don't, but I heartily support all who are doing what they can to improve their lives.

A guy in my neighborhood recently admitted to his family that he has an addiction...... to Brake Fluid!
His family was alarmed and was concerned for his health, but he told them.....
"Don't Worry, I can STOP any time I want!"
My kids all groaned when I told them this story.

To all of you who have managed to beat back an addiction, 'my hat is off to you' in respect.
Hang in there, Marzon (#11)!

I heard Kudlow talk about this several years ago (before Trump) on the radio. I was a regular listener but had no idea. To top it off, I was on my way to a meeting as I listened.
#11, just hang in there. Today is day 7701 (8/6/99) for me. Keeping track of days serves as a daily reminder that I can't drink successfully.
