Susan B. Anthony memorial refuses to
accept Trump's pardon of civil rights leader

Original Article

A group honoring the life and legacy of American civil rights icon Susan B. Anthony has refused to accept President Trump's posthumous pardon of her, arguing the effort would give unearned legitimacy to the 1873 court proceedings that found her guilty of breaking a law that prohibited women from voting. Trump this week announced he was pardoning Anthony for the conviction, a measure the president took on the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which recognized the right of women to vote.

I think it is not that Trump-haters believe Trump's policies can be effective and positive (whatever they are), it is just that they so desperately want all the power that comes with the office for themselves, not to benefit the people.

I understand why they refuse to accept the pardon, because it "would give unearned legitimacy to the 1873 court proceedings that found her guilty of breaking a law that prohibited women from voting." HOWEVER, Susan B. Anthony WAS found guilty of breaking the law. All their blathering does not change that fact rendering their refusing to accept the pardon meaningless.

As crazy as it is, I do find their behavior quite amusing. They also don't seem to understand that their rigidity of TDS is turning many people against them, some of whom were on their side politically before Trump came along and peeled off their masks.

While the group’s assertion about the 1873 court proceedings may be valid, they don’t have any standing to reject a Presidential Pardon as that is the President’s call. At this point in time who would know Susan B. Anthony’s true feelings about being pardoned?

Donald Trump also pardoned Jack Johnson the first black heavyweight boxing champion. He was convicted of violating the Mann Act even though the act was passed after he crossed state lines with the woman in question (he married her). Johnson was no saint but it was pretty clear the sports establishment was out to get him. There were lots of people including Mike Tyson who wanted Obama to grant him a posthumous pardon but he never did. President Trump pardoned Johnson in 2018.

Unlike Margaret Sanger Susan B. Anthony believe women having children was not an impediment to a fulfilling work and home life. She campaigned for businesses to accommodate women who were pregnant and those with children. Not kill the unborn so one could work. Sounds like Sanger might have been in the pocket of big business.

Pardons do not lend legitimacy to bad laws. In fact, pardons are often used to vindicate those who have been unjustly convicted of breaking bad laws. That said, self-appointed "representatives" of a person who died years ago have no say in whether or not the President pardons said person. To be honest, even Anthony herself cannot reject being pardoned If she were still alive.

A number of Democrat mayors from Minnesota endorsed President Donald Trump for a second term on Friday as Vice President Mike Pence campaigns in the state. "Like many in our region, we have voted for Democrats over many decades. We have watched as our constituents' jobs left not only the Iron Range, but our country. By putting tariffs on our products and supporting bad trade deals, politicians like Joe Biden did nothing to help the working class. We lost thousands of jobs, and generations of young people have left the Iron Range in order to provide for their families with good-paying jobs elsewhere.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the mob, each in their own way, last week increased the risk that we will face a fairly grave constitutional moment. Mrs. Pelosi, in an unscripted moment, with her usual charm, identified the president and his allies in Congress (one can only assume she meant all the congressional Republicans) as domestic enemies of the United States. For her part, Mrs. Clinton publicly advised Democratic presidential candidate Jose[h R. Biden not to concede the election under any circumstances. The mob attacked a U.S. senator in the street. In ordinary times, these comments and actions

Biden’s Intended Race on Race 5 replies

Biden’s race-centered strategy is very clear; the depth of its Machiavellian quality is less so. There was no subtlety in Biden’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention last week. It immediately established race as its theme and rarely diverted. In doing so, Biden’s acceptance speech revealed the nuance of the strategy he intends to pursue to the White House. Just over a year ago, Democrats were beginning their grueling debate marathon. So crowded was their field, they had to split their debates. By chance, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden shared the stage on June 27. Biden was already stumbling and vulnerable,

Republicans spent the better part of three nights in their convention presenting softer and gentler sides of President Trump, but the president gets the final words and he came out Thursday in a fighting mood. The Republican convention yesterday evening featured a speech by Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic director who today is a pro-life activist. The substance of Johnson’s speech has received markedly little coverage, as most reports instead attacked the credibility of her conversion story or dredged up her controversial comments on other subjects. But what Johnson said about abortion is worth remembering. “For most people who are pro-life, abortion is abstract. They can’t even conceive of the barbarity,” she said, after telling the story of assisting with an abortion procedure while working at Planned Parenthood. “They don’t know about the ‘products of conception’ room in abortion clinics,

Chelsea Clinton says she wants her three kids to understand that they are 'white children of privilege'—and to 'erode that privilege throughout their lives' in an effort to make sure that all Americans have the right to vote. The 40-year-old former First Daughter spoke with Massachusetts Democratic Representative Ayanna Pressley on a 'Women for Biden' video call today, and the two discussed the US' history of voter suppression, and the ways some people still face challenges in voting today. Chelsea said that while she taught them about the importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, she also explained how that victory

While the Penzeys Spices store in Kenosha was not damaged during violent protests in the city, its CEO wants to "loot" his own store. Bill Penzey wrote to customers of his Wauwatosa-based chain of spice shops that he supports the mission behind the protests in Kenosha in response to a police officer shooting Jacob Blake in the back seven times at close range. "Someone wrote to say that you would be singing a different tune if it was your store being looted," Penzey wrote in the email. "I'm by no means perfect but seriously no, I wouldn't. Human life means everything; stuff, not so much."

Republican lobbyist and power broker Matt Schlapp told Yahoo News today that he is “disappointed” in his former boss, George W. Bush, for snubbing President Trump amid a daunting reelection effort. Bush has been noticeably quiet during this Republican National Convention, issuing not so much as a statement expressing support for the president.(Snip) “When you see the socialist agenda that’s being put forward by the Democratic Party, I think you can get past some of your personal animosity and support the president, especially when you see what the Democrats want to do to the policy legacy that you care about,”

Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden’s performance during an interview late Thursday on CNN captured plenty of attention, but for all the wrong reasons. Speaking with CNN host Anderson Cooper, the Democrat nominee continuously stared off-screen, almost as if he was reading talking points from a script. Watch (*Cringe warning):(Tweet/Video) While it’s possible that he may have simply been staring off into space as he spoke, that wasn’t the impression gleaned by critics, including former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell and Fox News host Laura Ingraham. I watched the 2020 Republican National Convention on C-Span, largely because the screen is uncluttered with banners and preview windows and they hang around at the end of such events for awhile, particularly when President Trump, Vice-President Mike Pence, or First Lady Melania is the speaker. I would try to turn to Fox for analysis only to see first up the shining visage of a Marie Harf or a Juan Williams, the Democrat who has lately been obsessing about something called “QAnon violence” whatever that is. Mornings at Fox have not been much better, with the likes former DNC chair Donna Brazile who, on Tuesday morning’s episode, lost it entirely...
