Among the nightmares ready to descend on America, should the Democrats win in November, is the so-called Green New Deal. It promises lots of renewable green energy at a “modest” $2 trillion cost. Just one more scary, extreme policy idea out of the all-digital 2020 Democratic National Convention.
“We agree with scientists and public health experts that the United States — and the world — must achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible, and no later than 2050,” the Democratic Party platform states.
“To reach net-zero emissions as rapidly as possible, Democrats commit to eliminating carbon pollution from power plants

I would like to tell you how saddened I am about the California blackouts, but I'm laughing too hard right now.

Elect Democrats and you too can wish for blackouts and horrible energy costs. Don’t be Californicated.

I grew up in Kentucky in the 50s and 60s when we didn't have air conditioning. During the summer the heat in July and August would get into the 80s and 90s with corresponding humidity. I remember being utterly miserable. Now, I do have air conditioning. I keep the thermostat on 77 because I don't like to be cold but without it, I would be as utterly miserable as I was back then. You can count on people like Newsome, Pelosi and other high ranking Californians not being affected by the blackout.

Build a few nuclear power plants. Problem solved.
I like wind and solar, where it makes sense. But it has to be backed up by conventional power generation.
My real issue with so called renewable power is the shear amount of real estate that it takes up.

I know that Hoover Dam was built to provide power for the LA area. I wonder what % it currently supplies. Hard to imagine Las Vegas (literally just down the street) doesn't get it's power from the Dam.

The left is anti-science so why do you expect the leftist California politicians to do anything logical with regard to energy.

No one seems to talk about the 1 Billion dollar failure of the Solar Plant , Cresenct Dunes, near Tonopah, Nevada that Harry Reid, Obama and the green Dems needed to build. It failed before it was even up and running because of flawed technology.

When they started asking people to conserve more, just need to raise your thermometers to 78 for the AC, etc...
It seems more that they were working to condition people to learn to live with less, so when they truly needed to ratchet things back to ensure the elite still had ample electricity, you'd have learned to live with it, and accept the new normal.
Somehow, I sense that many government buildings, some empty due to the virus, are running the AC, day and night, still.
Same with many office buildings.

Conventional power generation cannot be replaced by alternatives - period. When running on solar, wind or unicorn flatulence, the power stations must be kept running for short term peak loads and for times the sun don't shine. They can not be turned on and off like a lamp bulb. They take forever to start and stop.
In essence, two power plants must run where one was sufficient before the Green deal.

They shut down natural gas energy production and that shut down was the difference in having enough or not having enough.

The ''modest 2 trillion dollars'' would mostly go into the pockets of democrat cronies, who would then ''donate'' to democrat campaigns.
Democrats like to get access to big money for projects that they claim to be important, but never get done, and keep requiring more and more money as they fail to complete them. There are plenty of examples. The ''big dig.'' The ''high speed rail.'' Thousands of ''shovel-ready infrastructure jobs.''
We have been there, seen it, and have the T-shirt. Democrats attract the worst of humanity. They lie, cheat, and steal for our money, and to get power over us.

#5 - We'll get to those nuclear plants...right after we finish the high-speed rail project.
Even Tesla owners are smart enough to keep an internal-combustion back-up vehicle on hand. And speaking of, is there any plan to add capacity to support the ever-increasing number of electric vehicles appearing on the highways?

Just one question...how many power plants have been decommissioned in the last 15 years? San Onofre was closed by regulators in 2013, supplying 1.4 million households. Next on the wish list, Diablo Canyon, which regulators want to close in 2025. Environmentalists want to close all gas fired plants, which represents one third of Cali's power generation. I guess unicorn farts aren't working out as a power supply.

If the economy is slowed down enough to fulfill the promises of the Green Weenies then we can not possibly produce enough to cover the costs and will go into instant recession and be promptly overrun by the civilized world. Even the democrats and their heroes AOC and Bernie know this, well, Bernie anyway. AOC is nothing but a Chakrabarti puppet and a complete ditz. The promise is only a ploy to get them into office.
