A Georgia state representative lost his committee chairmanship after he denigrated the late John Lewis on a radio show, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Tommy Benton, 70, incorrectly said that Lewis hadn’t done anything since he was beaten on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965. “I have never read of a significant piece of legislation that was passed with his name on it,” Benton said, according to the AJC. “John Lewis, his only claim to fame was he got conked on the head at the Pettus Bridge. And he has milked that for 50 years.” Georgia’s house speaker, fellow Republican David

As a conservative I wish all elected officials were like John Lewis. America would be in better shape if all legislators had done nothing.

If Mr. Benton represents his district and knows his people, whatever he says about any democrat, white, black, or brown, is his freedom to speak. The likes of Sheila Jackson Lee and the Squad did far worse, and they are sitting just pretty where they are. Fair is fair, people.

FTA, "...incorrectly said that Lewis hadn’t done anything since he was beaten on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965. “I have never read of a significant piece of legislation that was passed with his name on it,” Benton said, according to the AJC"
Yet, there is no example provided of what it was that Lewis had accomplished. a.k.a. "Without evidence".

Mind you, I don't know much about Lewis. But I do know almost all the 'Civil Righrs Leaders' since the passage of the act and the death of MLK, have been bought and paid for, by the Democrat Party. The same Democrat party who caused the Civil War, instituted Jim Crow, backed the KKK, and shed those 'public forums of hatred only to do the same thing covered with empty promises and honeyed words.
That said, to me, Lewis was one of two things: either a righteous man mislead by lies, or a house slave for the Democrats.
If it's true, it's not slander.

Fact checker would say that the statement is correct. This was an angry man who contributed nothing during his decades in Congress other than hate for Republicans.

The same could be said for the 48 years Joe Biden has swaggered around Washington. There are plenty more democrats like Lewis and this is the truth just only to be remembered for the wood shampoo he received from a baton on the bridge crossing.
This the funny truth.

He also did not attend Trumps inauguration, I guess because he "stole" the election from Hillary.

And yet it was a fellow Republican that demoted him. This is why the Republican Party is called the party of stupid. This is why Republican lose when they should win; there's no party loyalty. Democrats can say absolutely outrageous things and other Democrats just look the other way. A Republican says a politically inconvenient truth and other Republicans attack him, doing the Democrats dirty work for them. This is why I'm an Independent who votes Republican. I'm not voting for Republicans as much as against Democrats because Republicans.are.stupid...but Democrats are truly evil.

According to Google, Lewis' major legislative accomplishment was getting a bill passed to establish a national Africian American museum in Washington. That was 1988... nothing since then I guess...

To nominate John Lewis for a claim to fame beyond being conked on the head, I can only think of the fact that he led the democrat boycott of the inauguration of our 45th President, Donald Trump. For sure, he will again be absent for the next inauguration of President Trump in five months.

Back in the 60s the Civil Rights movement needed favorable publicity. John Lewis was instrumental. He used his obnoxious personality to provoke law enforcement agents to physically remove him from blocking a bridge. When he resisted he got what he wanted: videos of him being roughed up which was shown on network news. His only useful accomplishment in life is he totally destroyed the political career of Julian Bond. During his congressional career he had several books ghost written describing him as a saint and how lucky we were to have known him.

Lewis main achievement was falsely accusing people of racism. Breitbart called him out in 2010 when he accused Tea Partiers of using the N word at an anti-ObamaCare rally, offering $100,000 to the UNCF if proven. Crickets.
Tommy Benton's comment was right on target.

It's pretty bad when your whole life is hinged on the fact that you are a slow footed runner. If he'd have been a little faster, those troopers would have caught someone else on the bridge. The old saw about not talking I'll about the dead is passe' now. If you can talk ill of Robert E Lee, and Columbus, lying bLACKS like Lewis and Cummings are fair game.
