SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, has prompted more questions than science can answer. But of the many puzzles that remain, few are more perplexing — or urgent — than this one: Why do some people get sick and never get better?
This group of individuals, nicknamed the “long haulers,” are people of all ages, races and genders. Survivors of the virus who, months later, find themselves battling a constellation of debilitating side effects that disrupt their ability to function. In a study released by Indiana University School of Medicine this August, in partnership with COVID-19 nonprofit Survivor Corps, long haulers describe nearly 100 side effects, from fatigue and body aches

The Indiana University study is suggesting that it may be a vascular disease rather than a respiratory disease. Anecdotal reports from “long haulers” (included in article) are showing it can seriously affect persons of various ages and fitness levels.
China really loosed a scourge. Deliberately, I’d say.

I waffle on the bio warfare angle, #1, while not discounting it. But I don't think the Chinese are smart enough to come up with such a sophisticated germ. This has more to it.

Face it: Some people just have better genes than others. Why do some young people get cancer or heart disease? Some people get diabetes as children. Some people react to the virus differently than others.
The real question is why we are all a bit different?

A lot of the symptoms sound very similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). CFS, which can happen after a bad case of mono can go on for years, or even a lifetime. My wife had mono over 30 years ago and is still battling CFS and its myriad of symptoms. I really feel for these people. Sometimes one's immune system reacts in a way that does more harm than good in the long run.

#5, the Chinese are Asian and, according to information that has been leaked, they've lost far more to COVID-19 than their official death toll. Kind of like how we've lost far less to COVID-19 than our official death toll. Everything about this virus has been politicized from the beginning.
As far COVID-19 being an intentional bio weapon, I doubt it. If it was, it would be far more deadly than the mild flu (to most of us) than it is. We lose tens of thousands of all ages to the flu every year but the great majority of them are old and infirm... just like COVID-19.
However, to the Democrats it was a crisis they could not let go to waste.

Re #6, I knew someone would come up with that. I don’t usually bother with Yahoo. but the subject of the article - a study by Indiana University - is well-discussed and the writer did a good job with her subject and the cases she presented. Haglage is a senior editor at Yahoo Life but also has written for numerous other publications such as RealClearHealth, part of the RealClear family of publications. She’s a pro.
I’m not sure that blanket-slamming the messenger makes much sense. I try to be selective in what I read and post.

Things that make an article more legitimate. Not just a mention of the study, but inclusion in this article of an embedded link to the actual study, which is here:
https://precisionhealth.iu.edu/news-multimedia/_news/lambert-covid-symptom-study-doc.pdf
As I said, I don’t dismiss a source like this out of hand when the article appears to be very reliable.

The fact the virus removes iron from the red blood cells and moves it into the plasma causes the worst things to happen. First it reduces life sustaining oxygen to every organ in the body, including the brain, and second the iron in the plasma triggers the autoimmune response leading to the "Cytokine storm," which drives people into the ER in a life or death condition. There could be very long lasting or even permanent damage from these events. Unfortunately, like many maladies in life, many end up in a, "It sure sucks being me," existence.

Here's a good article about the Cytokine Storm relationship:

Marseille-based doctor Professor Didier Raoult has been treated badly by Yahoo. He has treated thousands of patients with HCQ as you know. He noted that some people carry a high virus load with few symptoms and that these few people tested positive for months until they got a dose a HCQ. The 'normal' course of the disease seems to be getting sort of sick & then getting better. Those with other medical problems too often get really sick and if not treated early end up with the Cytokine Storm and likely die. Of the 5 local people I know who have had covid - 2 died (over 75 or with comorbidities), 2 were sick for a bit & the other was in the hospital for 5 months mostly on a respirator.

#8,9 - While I generally do not trust Yahoo, I do trust your postings, but didn't notice who had posted it. If I had noticed the OP - I would likely have read the article.
I went to the original pdf document, eliminating any influence Yahoo might have. It definitely adds to my already existing desire to not get this disease. Sounds very unpleasant for some people.
In case anyone is looking for advice on dealing with this virus from a research biochemist, I was emailing with a friend and former colleague in Ukraine who use to lead one of the joint US-Ukraine biological research projects that I managed. She recommended a supplement that I had never heard of, Quercetin. She says it inhibits reproduction by interfering with the creation of some of the critical proteins that make up the virus, and also inhibits the assembly of the proteins as the virus tries to replicate. Specifically interfering with 'heat shock proteins 40 and 70' which are necessary for the viral reproduction. I don't know anything about this, plan on sending it to an American bio-research scientist to see what he thinks.
She recommended 250 mg of it twice a day if you think you might have it, to minimize the reproduction of the virus. Also, hexa-aminocaproic acid, which is an OTC antiviral in Ukraine, and the chemical is available through biological research chemical suppliers here. Likely hard to find, but is FDA approved for a different medical use, so at least known safe. It can also inhibit viral replication as a protease inhibitor.
I am not a doctor, this is not a medical recommendation. I did manage some interesting biological research projects in the former soviet states and met some smart research scientists, with many published research papers and a number of them remain friends, a decade after we first met. Take it for what you will. She's not a MD, either. I checked and Quercetin is a dietary supplement, can be ordered by mail in the US and probably purchased at various supplement stores.

There may be other conditions, undiagnosed, causing the long haul problems.
The sainted George Floyd, for example, had sickle cell trait, according to the autopsy.

Malaria has all of these same symptoms. It is liver and blood. HCQ works for malaria. Not a doc and didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express but I read a lot.

We have heard of these cases that involve blood clotting of various sizes and other symptoms that do not go with respiratory diseases like the flu.
