Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot's (D.) decision to renovate a local convention center into a makeshift coronavirus hospital cost taxpayers nearly $66 million—though only 38 patients received treatment at the facility, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on Friday.
The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, the agency Lightfoot tasked with overseeing the project, overlooked a bid from a construction company that offered to waive fees or donate them to coronavirus pandemic relief organizations. Instead, officials gave the bid to Walsh Construction, a politically connected contractor, which billed the city $65.9 million to renovate the McCormick Place convention center.

This is just Chicago being Chicago. Eventually they will use my tax dollars to bail them out.

Was that the hospital that paid Michelle Obama $300,000 annually for (40) Twenty Hour work weeks?

Was that the hospital that paid Michelle Obama $300K annually that she made the decision to have homeless patients dumped on the corner somewhere in Chicago when they are are unable to pay. They received no treatment....they were just dumped.

Even in crisis mode, Chicago graft and corruption must go on. Lightfoot will go down in history, hopefully soon. What corporation in its right mind would hold a convention there now?

The University of Chicago Hospital was where Michelle "worked" when Bathhouse was a state senator. So they both got paid for doing nothing for the better part of their lives.

How much of that 66 million ended up in the overseas bank accounts of politicians?

It isn't only Chicago.
The hospital in my County has 4 super large tents with air conditioning and heating units sitting there waiting for patients, and hasn't received the fist one. I assume there are beds in it also.
Pretty sure these tents are in a lot of other places als waiting for patients that never come.
Who knows what we are paying for these tents.?

And as far as I know the 3,000 bed facility the Army engineers built in New York never saw a single patient. What is going to happen to all these beds and expensive medical equipment when things go back to normal? It will all be stuffed into a warehouse not properly maintained and will rot until it will be worthless.

How many tens of billions were spent around the country in anticipation of a catastrophe that never happened. So, now what happens to all of that medical equipment that was bought? It has to be stored somewhere and maintained, and beds take up space.
This is what happens when politicians with license to spend buy into hysteria. We need to point to this exercise in stupidity whenever liberals start caterwailing about climate change.

Not to worry, if Pelosi and Schumer get their way. Their three TRILLION dollar Heroes bill would be used to finance this and other corrupt Democrat spending. You and I and our children and grand children will get the privilege of paying for it.

Her voters are busy robbing high end stores on the Miracle Mile while yelling, "I Can't Breathe" as they carry out their free 70 inch flat screen TV's to end racism. They have no idea about wasted tax money, pay no federal taxes, and wouldn't care if they knew because, well, they can't breathe.

Same in NYC....send the sick seniors to nursing homes to spread the virus, but don't EVER send them to the thousands of beds provided by Trump.

Typical Chicago graft.... it's all about who knows who at city hall....nothing new here.... except.... people are getting fed up...and slow foot is on her way out...soros will see to that... she's outlived her usefulness and become a thorn in soros' side...and it may be time for an Arkansas suicide... remember ole hillary has nothing but time on her hands...

Another example of the “Chicago Way” of governance. Without an independent audit and investigation there is no telling exactly where that almost sixty-six million dollars in tax payers money ended up.

What can be said about this? Pure crony capitalism and fraud. And coming out of Chicago what else would you expect?
