MINNEAPOLIS — Prosecutors on Wednesday asked a judge to try four fired Minneapolis police officers jointly in George Floyd’s death. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison filed a memo arguing that evidence against the four is similar and that a single trial would spare witnesses and family members from the trauma of multiple trials. Holding one trial also would allow the community and the nation to absorb the impact of the verdicts for the four officers at once, instead of piecemeal, Ellison argued. “Forcing the community to endure four separate trials, with four separate verdicts at four different times, is likely

Ellison knows they will walk. All of them. He certainly doesn't want four separate acquittals that demonstrate his incompetence.

Not likelty to happen. It is rarely in the interests of all defendants to go to trial together.
Sounds like a hail Mary pass attempt to me. Seems like the most clearly involved officer will still get off since we now know that he followed department protocols exactly, and that those protocols were designed by medical staff to give the greatest probability of saving the life of a drug overdose victim suffering from excited delirium. The other three officers are even less likely to be convicted.
I predict that this goes like the four (IIRC) Baltimore cops - separate trials and four separate innocent verdicts, although perhaps one Baltimore case was a hung jury, don't remember for certain.
The officers did exactly what their training taught them to do, called an ambulance for Floyd and later bumped up the priority to Code 3 from Code 2 (lights and siren rather than just get there quickly), and at least one officer gave CPR in the EMS vehicle on the way to the hospital.
These officers had no harmful intent at all, did nothing at all wrong.

Legal scholar Ellison knows that probably his only chance for a GUILTY verdict is to try them all at once and inflame the juror pool to significantly improve his meager chances for conviction, The state wlll have a clean presentation of their version of events, while the four defendants, probably each with their own counsel, will be fractured in their response.
No way would I, as defendants counsel (and I'm not a lawyer, didn't play one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) would allow my client to be tried in that dog and pony show that Ellison plans to foist on the jury.

I'm impressed at the AG's concern for the travel expense and inconvenience multipe trials would place on the witnesses. Its so thoughtful of him. However, I didn't once see the AG mention how this would be a fair trial for the defendents. My guess is Ellison knows he has a steaming pile and is looking to disadvantage the defendents.

Keith realizes this is shaping up to be Freddie Gray redux and he wants to avoid Marilyn Mosby's serial humiliations. The defendants in this case would be crazy to agree to this.

The four policemen deserve medals - - not a trial.
Their actions to extend the life of a dying George Floyd were heroic. They faithfully fulfilled every aspect of their training - - in how to deal with a suspect who has Excited Delirium Syndrome. Under extreme pressure - - they diagnosed the situation perfectly - - and made every effort to save an utterly worthless life.
President Trump - - reach into your jewelry case - - and pull out four Medals Of Freedom for these heroes!

I had to testify in a trial where the prosecutors combined more than 10 defendants into the same trial. It was so confusing to the jury that they all got off. When this happens there will be rioting all over again due to the stupidity of this prosecutor.

Yeah, I guess one massive riot when they are found not guilty is easier to deal with than 4 separate riots.
If they had not gotten caught up in the emotion of all this, and had charged them with much more realistic charges (like 2nd degree manslaughter for the cop who kneeled on him), they might have had a shot at getting some sort of conviction. But, no, they went for 2nd degree murder, and there is not a bat's chance in Hades that this situation met those standards.
But this was never about "justice". It's just about riots and violence and destruction and power!!!

Hey Minnesota,
Are you happy you elected Keith Ellison after you were put on notice his wife beating, AntiFa backing, Marxist BLM member ways? Now you are demanding I pay for the damage your weakness caused? You need to look back to your Viking heritage or take testosterone or something. You can start by voting for Trump, but until I see that you are dead to me.

It appears that the state only wants their 12 hand-picked jurors determining the fate of the officers. Multiple trials would make that more difficult.

In case anyone hasn't seen this article, posted yesterday -
This is VERY worthwhile, and should be passed on to anyone you know who is interested in truth. The photo from the MPD training manual on how to restrain a subject with excited delirium absolutely DESTROYS the "police murdered Floyd" lie.
https://spectator.org/george-floyd-police-training-minneapolis/
But, the first article which nailed the truth of the George Floyd death was this excellent, cutting edge journalism. Mr. David wrote this on June 11 - more than two months ago the truth was out there, and yet Ben Crump and BLM still push their lies.
THIS is the first real journalism done on the George Floyd case.

They want guilty verdicts and a delayed appeals court or Supreme Court ruling overturning the verdicts. Then they will point fingers at the Feds and hope Minneapolis and other large cities will not be burned to the ground in protest.
A fair trial almost certainly would result in an acquittal or conviction on some reduced charge. Both scenarios would result in serious mob violence. Therefore, a fair trial for each defendant must be avoided at all costs, according to people like Ellison.
Finally, expressing fear about spreading out potential consequences between four separate trials tells you something about what Ellison and the powers-that-be think of their constituents. You do not fear fair trials unless you think your constituents are brainless savages who can't help but descend into mob violence.

WRONG...one officer had his knee on Floyd, NOT the others. It's NOT their job to police each other.
