An email message that Andrea Kane, the superintendent of schools in Queen Anne’s County, sent to parents at the end of the 2019-2020 school year started out unremarkably, listing achievements for the year and the dates of coming events. Then it pivoted into less familiar terrain, at least on Maryland’s largely conservative Eastern Shore. Kane called for more and better dialogue on racism in the county and voiced support for Black Lives Matter. Those calls have left Kane, the county’s first Black superintendent, embroiled in controversy and fighting for her job.

Veterans Day has always had special meaning for Ron Dolecki, even though it has long reminded him of a disappointment.
Years ago, Dolecki took part in a U.S. Army mission in Eastern Africa. He was ambushed and captured by armed guerrillas, forced to march more than 150 miles across a desert, and held in brutal conditions for two weeks, only to escape on foot, saving two crew mates in the process.
Historians call his saga the stuff of legend, and it helped Dolecki launch a career with the CIA. But his pride in his service has been mixed with exasperation.
When Baltimore’s oldest art museum decided to sell three of its most prominent paintings, including a major work by pop-art icon Andy Warhol, to raise millions of dollars toward its avowed goal of promoting diversity, the reaction was swift and mostly fierce. More than 150 prominent supporters, including former board chairs and members, signed a letter to the Maryland attorney general calling for a halt to the sale.

One night in the waning days of the Great Depression, a woman from Harford County told Baltimore Police she’d found a baby in the back seat of her car, which was parked on a street near Pennsylvania Station.
The story made the front page of The Evening Sun. The infant, taken to an orphanage, grew up to have a happy life.
Now, one of that infant’s grown sons, curious about his father’s origins, has turned the story on its head.
Before the coronavirus had reached the Pleasant View Nursing Home in the small Maryland town of Mount Airy, the home’s administrator asked the state health department what she should be doing about the threat.
Some of Rebecca Travels’ staff worked second jobs at other nursing homes, she said, and she wanted to hedge against an outbreak. Nursing care facilities in other states had been hit hard, and she feared for her older residents — who live four to a room. [snip] Less than a week later, five of her 95 residents are dead.

The Manhattan Supreme Court suit says Darling “maliciously portrayed Plaintiff as a racist, an irremovable stain and permanent cloud which will forever diminish Mr. Dykstra,’’ in his best-selling tome.

I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. The millions of Americans who were paying attention throughout the 2020 election campaign all became painfully aware of the fact that Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities were slipping and slipping fast. His wife, as the person closest to him, should have been the one to call the campaign quits in order to reduce stress on the man.
Instead, apparently so anxious to become the First Lady by any means necessary, Mrs. Biden continued to push her failing husband’s campaign forward as if he were mentally qualified.
