Susan Rice, one of Joe Biden's contenders for vice president, name-checked her President Trump-supporting son when asked whether she could identify with members of Trump's base. "I have a 23-year-old son whom I love dearly, whose politics are very, very different from my own and from the rest of our family," Rice told NPR. "My son and I will have some robust disagreements over some matters of policy, not all. And yet, at the end of the day, you know, I love him dearly, and he loves me." Rice's son Jake Rice-Cameron was president of the Stanford College Republicans and

For leftist Democrats, this probably disqualifies her from the ticket.

Somehow, I just don't see a woman this driven, with this much greed and ambition, taking the time to bear and raise a child. Is her son adopted?

I don't particularly care about her relationship with her son. She's a paid liar. Know who else will lie for money? A prostitute. She's willing to debase herself. How low will she go? We don't need that in government. If Biden and the Democrats select her for VP, there is something terribly wrong with our government. She goes out on the news, blatantly lies, and takes all the arrows for the people behind her. Her entire career in government has been predicated on her ability to lie with impunity.

During the week of August 17, thousands of Democrats elected to serve as delegates to their party’s national convention will log on to their computers to view the proceedings. They will cast electronic votes on the party platform and for their party’s nominee to challenge Donald Trump for the presidency. About one-quarter of this year’s delegates are Bernie Sanders supporters. Most of them are progressive political activists—and many are first-time participants in a national convention. This virtual event will not be the experience they expected. And while all of those with whom I’ve spoken are supportive of the precautions being

Earlier today, John posted the video of Joe Biden snapping at a reporter who asked him if he has taken a cognitive abilities test. I can understand why Biden resented the question, although it was a fair one, given that the former vice president has claimed to have been tested (in some unspecified way) on his cognition. But to respond by asking the reporter whether he is a junkie was out of line. Biden’s angry response is consistent with the description of him by Steve Silbiger in a guest post for Power Line. Biden can’t stand to be challenged. Contrary

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Two people were hospitalized and two were arrested after a brawl broke out at an Anaheim hotel that involved from 60 to 100 people, police say. The fight was so big -- involving big crowds in at least two separate parts of the hotel - that police had to call in extra help from gang units and the Orange County Sheriff's Department to help separate people. Police were called to the Cambria hotel at Katella Avenue and Anaheim Boulevard around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday. When the first officers got there, they found a large group of about 40 people

WASHINGTON – Over 100 Black women leaders and activists slammed comments made of Black women being considered to be Joe Biden's running mate as racist and sexist in an open letter published Wednesday. Sen. Kamala Harris, Rep. Karen Bass, former US Ambassador Susan Rice, Rep. Val Demings and former Georgia Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams have all been floated as possible vice presidential contenders for Biden. The letter comes as Biden is nearing an announcement on his vice presidential pick. It also comes just days after a Virginia mayor made a Facebook post that read, “Joe Biden has just announced

Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, signed an executive directive on Wednesday ordering state employees to undergo “implicit bias training.” Executive directives allow the Michigan governor to establish procedures or basic policy for employees of the state’s executive branch. According to the directive, current state employees will be required to undergo “implicit bias training” by the end of this year, while new employees must complete the training as part of the hiring process. While various bias training initiatives have been implemented by government offices in recent months, some research shows that the impact of these initiatives is negligible. Whitmer’s directive

Black Lives Matter organizer Cori Bush defeated Rep. William Lacy Clay in Missouri’s Democratic primary Tuesday night, halting a St. Louis political dynasty. Jason Rosenbaum, a political correspondent for St. Louis Public Radio, called Bush’s victory “one of the most significant moments in the history of St. Louis politics. It is enormous.” Clay has served in the House of Representatives since 2001, succeeding his father, who had held the seat since 1969. Bush, 44, had challenged Clay, 64, in 2018 but lost by 20 points. In the 2020 rematch, she edged out Clay to win the Democratic nomination for the

Beirut’s residents are in shock and mourning after an enormous explosion at the city’s port ripped through the Lebanese capital, killing at least 100 and injuring more than 4,000, according to the emergency services. Hospitals are overwhelmed, with some too damaged by the blast to operate. The explosion, which blew out windows and destroyed property for miles around, has been initially blamed on 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored in an unsecured warehouse at Beirut’s cargo port. But the government subsequently announced an investigation to determine within five days the exact cause of the explosion and “who was responsible.”

As California grapples with a deluge of requests for unemployment benefits amid the COVID-19 pandemic, some state workers processing claims say they are buckling under pressure, hampered by outdated technology, bureaucratic red tape and a shortage of trained, experienced staff. The state Employment Development Department is so overwhelmed that Gov. Inside the EDD, full-time employees and temporary hires say they are working long hours, including weekends, but

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is begging wealthy New Yorkers to return to the city to save it from economic ruin while fighting off calls from other lawmakers to raise their taxes, a move he fears could permanently drive the top 1 percent out of the city. Thousands of New York City residents fled Manhattan and Brooklyn earlier this year when the city was the COVID-19 epicenter of the world. Many flocked to their second homes in the Hamptons or upstate, while others rented or bought new properties, abandoning their expensive city apartments. Now, six months on with no end to the national nightmare in sight, many are laying down permanent roots.

Kneeling for the national anthem at sporting events used to be the occasional episode of player activism protesting the United States as an evil racist empire. It’s those who love America versus those who hate it, the latter of which despises the American flag and all that it represents as a relic of white supremacy that must be condemned.
