NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico in a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft Sunday, ending a historic two-month trip to space.
The mission marked the first time that astronauts have launched from American soil since the final Space Shuttle flight in 2011.

Welcome backs, Gentlemen! You'll find, unfortunately, that a lot's changed while you were out of town. You may wish you could go back.

When I saw those beautiful parachutes open I clapped and grinned ear to ear. Shades of 1969.

I hope that all of our grandkids were able to see parts of the Dragon's separation from the ISS yesterday and its splashdown shortly ago in the gulf of Mexico.
The entire mission was done with an American rocket, American technology, an American space capsule, and American know how. Our grandkids will soon have this know how. This demo SpaceX flight gets us a step closer to going to and returning from Mars. Within the next 10 years, I might add. That Elon Musk guy is weird yet truly amazing, no? I liked how he poured champagne for the mission control team after Behnken and Hurley exited the Dragon capsule. Not bad for a guy who is only 49 years old.
I sure did like the locals who started to congregate around the capsule in their powerboats. Yep, this is America. The boater who was waving the Trump/Pence 2020 flag made my day. But, the Space X team might consider better post-splash down security for its next mission. Next, we go back to the moon and prepare for Mars.

When the capsule touched the water...with the 4 huge chutes spreading and drifting down and collapsing about it... I got a marvelous shiver. Like old times.

#3 I too, was delighted to see the capsule deploying the 'chutes and touching down.
I watched live feed from NASA and was disappointed and baffled that it took a full hour + for someone to figure out how to open the hatch door.
If it hadn't been so serious a matter, it would have been Three Stooges funny.
NASA: make sure that you can get the astronauts out of the capsule immediately on retrieval.

Dems are NOT celebrating the success:
White space capsule, White space suit, White parachutes, White Male astronaut and Musk is White. This was a racist mission to space.

NASA needed an aircraft carrier and helicopters to recover their space capsules. Musk used speedboats and a recovery boat with a rear A-frame winch to haul it out of the water. Private enterprise in action - in this case all 3, faster, better and cheaper.
The half hour delay getting the astronauts out was planned, they were sampling the air around the capsule to make sure any toxic fumes dissipated before they opened the hatch to the outside air.

You all are forgetting that the "purple lipped camel jockey" said it would take 10 years and $12 billion to return to space!
He was wrong on this just like he was wrong on every thing else he said or touched!

All this excitement over a re-entry that mimics those of 60 years ago. And yet they speak of space travel to other planets and galaxies as if it's just an eventuality. Man's arrogance knows no bounds, as long as there's grant money available. Eye roll. What a waste of money.
