For weeks now, people have been showing up to the Daley Center in downtown Chicago for appearances in traffic court that are being handled entirely online or over the phone. Angelica Velez was among them. She received several citations after being involved in a traffic accident. “I was told to get in the line and then they gave us a paper that says to do it over the phone,” she said. (Snip) Court Clerk Dorothy Brown agreed to an interview with WGN Investigates in which she claimed “unconscious racism” was at the root of the questions and negative stories written about her during her nearly two decades in office.

Once again, I am reminded of an episode of Sanford and Son, where Fred and Lamont had a disagreement about some detail in their junkyard business. Fred, frustrated, said he would retire from the business, and would call Social Security to find out how much his social security payment would be. fred dialed the Social security number, but before he said a word, he heard "Social Security - please hold." Fred turned to Lamont and said, "If I was white, they wouldn't have put me on hold."

A “cold and ruthless” President Obama abandoned his Kenyan family in their greatest hours of need, according to a new tell-all by estranged half brother Malik Obama. “He got rich and became a snob,” Malik, 62, told The Post via Skype from his home in the Kenyan village of Nyang’oma Kogelo. “What I saw was he was the kind of person that wants people to worship him. He needs to be worshiped and I don’t do that. I am his older brother so I don’t do that.” The book, “Big Bad Brother From Kenya,” a self-published memoir which Malik Obama spent 22 years writing, hit Amazon with little fanfare on July 11.

The angry left-handed broom of America’s cultural revolution uses fear to sweep through the our civic, corporate and personal life. (Snip) Last week, with violence spiking around the country, I wrote a column on the growing sense of lawlessness in America’s urban areas. In response, the Tribune newspaper union, the Chicago Tribune Guild, which I have repeatedly and politely declined to join, wrote an open letter to management defaming me, by falsely accusing me of religious bigotry and fomenting conspiracy theories. Newspaper management has decided not to engage publicly with the union. So I will. For right now, let’s deal with facts.

In a brazen crime caught on camera early Sunday morning, a group of men riding Divvy bikes surrounded an elderly man's car in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood, pulled the driver out and stole his vehicle. As the group blocks the driver, an 82-year-old man, from leaving, one man opens the door and begins to pull the victim out by his arm. The coronavirus pandemic has been great for streaming services as consumers quarantine at home and watch more video. The same can’t be said for regular TV. AT&T reported it lost another 886,000 cable and satellite TV subscribers in the second quarter of 2020. The telecommunications giant—the second largest TV provider in the US behind only Comcast—lost about the same number of TV subscribers in the previous quarter. Its total subscriber base has eroded 18% in the last year alone. If sports were still on TV, AT&T and other providers may have been able to temporarily slow down the acceleration of cord-cutting. But without sports, expensive TV bundles don’t offer consumers enough value.

Well, it may be time to deploy the military to Seattle after all because what local lawmakers are doing is nothing short of allowing the city to be engulfed in violence and anarchy. They’re moving to abolish the police. It’s not defunding. It’s a total dissolution. Non-profit programs and “community-led activities” will replace policing. Why? Well, according to the resolution, the Seattle Police Department perpetuates racism and violence. Oh, yes, and it’s a vehicle of white supremacy. It's typical 'woke' nonsense, and it's a cancer that's killing America.

Admiration for George W. Bush doesn’t win you much praise in today’s Republican Party, but I don’t care. On Thursday former President George W. Bush attended and delivered a speech at the late Congressman John Lewis’s funeral. George W. Bush had every reason not to attend Lewis’s funeral, let alone eulogize him. Lewis may have been a famed civil rights leader, but he was also a bitter partisan Democrat congressman, who boycotted both of Bush’s inaugurations. Bush barely mentioned the political division between him and Lewis. “John and I had our disagreements of course,” Bush said.
