The WNBA's Seattle Storm and New York Liberty teams walked off the court during the playing of the national anthem before the season-opening game on Saturday afternoon. The two teams' planned walk-off was part of the league's season-long Justice Movement initiative—designed to fight systemic racism and violence—which the WNBA and Women’s National Basketball Players Association announced earlier in July. On Saturday, players from the Storm and the Liberty headed for their locker rooms while the national anthem played at the WNBA bubble at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Both teams then returned to the court and observed 26 seconds

The WNBA is a huge money pit. The NBA has to "donate" millions of dollars a year to keep the WNBA afloat. The WNBA has a tiny fan base, and, if left on it's own without it's "sugar daddy" (the NBA), it would fold after 3 or 4 games.
You see better talent in a Division 2 men's basketball game in college.
They had better hope that their fan base is as brain dead as they are, because they can't afford to lose a single fan!!!

The WNBA has been bleeding cash for years. Their yearly losses are in the millions. I suppose their actions will not upset their fan base of angry women of questionable sexuality. Still, there will come a time when the experiment will be considered to have failed and these teams will fold.

Nobody watched the WNBA when there was no pandemic. Did they really believe that anyone would even notice (or care) about their big protest?

This league wouldn't even exist if it wasn't heavily subsidized by the NBA. The league itself has always been a political and social propaganda platform as evidenced by the high number of female telephone linesmen and lumberjacks in the stands.

The only way to wake up all these "woke" sports prima donnas is to stop watching, stop attending and stop buying their merchandise. The only thing they understand is money, cut that off and they'll really get 'woke".

Those clowns do not deserve to hear our National Anthem! Do they really think their justice movement initiative "designed to fight systemic racism and violence " is do anything positive? I think we should not give them an opportunity to disrespect the flag and country.

Ladies, most of us do not care anything about you, what you think, what you do. However, please leave America and go find basketball jobs in Europe. And take your 23 fans with you. And while you are at it take all the other "sport players" with you. You will find out very quickly we don't need you. We can live without you and we will. So good luck with those big paychecks coming down the pike.

Just when the world was forgetting about the Admissions Scandal and its core being IMG. But I have to thank the girls for their surrender on our behalf. Perhaps our community will be one of last to suffer ethnic cleansing as we surely march toward an enlightened utopia just like Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Honestly I would prefer that the National Anthem not be played before sporting events. In recent years, it has given big-ego urban yodelers an occasion to assault our ears. Recently It has given jerk players a chance to play to (against?) the grandstand by kneeling, or turning their backs, or in this latest instance, by walking out during the music. In my book the playing at events is making the Anthem almost trite, like bagpipes playing “Amazing Grace”.

Essentially what they did was walk out on their fans, some of who may have been attending the event in person, and all the fans who were watching on TV. What the fans should do, as turnabout is FairPlay, is essentially walk out on those teams, by not attending any future games in person, and change the channel on their TV sets. Without a good percentage of their fans, those teams that are business entities, will not last very long.

Nothing is more thrilling than girls' basketball.
The men are too big, too fast, too strong, too agile, too skilled, too athletic. I prefer watching players who have none of those attributes.

For the WNBA it's a feature, not a bug.

Have never watched a WNBA game. Might have seen part of an NBA game. Not my sport. The only basketball I have seen is part of the NCAA tournament.
Surprised we aren't hearing more about Breonna Taylor which leads me to question whether the media is sitting on it waiting to release it shortly before the election for maximum effect. It happened back in March. Louisville PD had executed a search warrant for two drug dealers. They went to Breonna Taylor's apartment because one of the drug dealers was a former boyfriend, and was reportedly receiving packages at her place. The police executed a 'no knock' search warrant shortly after midnight at her apartment. Taylor's new boyfriend who is licensed to carry a gun thought it was a home invasion shot one of the police. The police say they called out saying they were police, but he says they did not. Who knows. Maybe he was freaked out or just didn't hear. The police returned fire shooting 20 times. Breonna Taylor was hit 8 times and died on the scene. Gun fire hit as many as 5 rooms in the apartment leading to the question of whether the police were shooting wildly. Doubt the lighting was ideal considering it was after midnight. Neither drug dealer was at the scene. Not were there any drugs. Got all this from Wikipedia fwiw.

Well, I guess I'll have to continue my non-watching of women's professional sports athletes on the court and further amplify my already severe disinterest in what they say and do off the court. However, the peril to them increases with each of these escalations. If they keep saying and doing stupid stuff like this, my lack of interest in them may reach such extreme levels that they will no longer be able to inhabit the same physical universe. At that point, they could all simultaneously vanish, Thanos-style, and I will wake the next morning and contemplate a grateful, quieter universe.

Here we go again. Every time I want to boycott a product or event, it turns out to be something I've never attended, purchased, or participated in. Twenty years ago, I was interested in NBA basketball, but that interest has died down with the rise of childish, "fowlish" behavior by players who are overgrown snowflakes or thugs. My interest in NFL football has similarly diminished with the thugs and the Kaepernick antics. I've never worn anything bearing the Nike name or symbol. I avoid facebook and have never used twitter. I avoid google and use duckduckgo. I strive to minimize my use of amazon.com.
