The Christopher Columbus statue in Grant Park was removed hours after Mayor Lori Lightfoot called for its removal. Two cranes pulled their way up to the statue just before 2 a.m. Friday, after hours of vocal confrontations between protestors and supporters of the statue, including John Catanzara, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7. The decision to take down two monuments to Columbus came after violent clashes between police and protesters broke out last week when activists attempted to tear down a statue of the Italian explorer in Grant Park.

It won’t be enough. It’s never enough. Removing statues is only a means to an end; the complete takedown of our entire American way of life. A statue is just a bone to a dog. It’ll always be hungry for more.

So, the protesters won then, they got the statue removed. And they got the City to pay for it. Terrorism works?

Can someone logically explain why the statue of a 16th century Italian explorer (revered by Italian Americans) is being removed? I didn’t think so.

We love Christopher Columbus. He was a great navigator, and he never raped anyone. They take down that statue, we put up another one, some place.

The writer calls this a "monument to colonialism". How about honoring the worlds greatest and bravest navigator. Who opened up a whole new world.

Funny she can order this done but can’t order “her” police to protect and arrest. I must be missing something.

Will the city still give its union workers a day off on Columbus Day?

The Left have been lambasting Columbus with the claims of a senior member of the Boabdilla family for years.
Yet, that family placed one of their young female cousins in the company of Isabella as a BFF, and she stayed there until one day she married a converso named Boabdilla and moved to a top of the mountain fortress the size of a city.
No big thing for the most report, but apparently there was intense jealousy of Columbus for having become Isabella's favorite!
And back in the day, tales about royal favorites were generally discredited de novo!
But one way to think of this is to imagine a world where there was No Columbus, and no Great Explorers, and the Caravel was never invented (and no ship could sail upwind), and the African criminal classes were simply worked to death on the chiefs' plantations.... and the Portuguese did not carry on a global trade in luxury goods, medicine, tools, firearms, books, and everybody just stayed mired in the ignorance and barbarism of the post Black Plague World right down to the present time.
Marx would not have been born. WWI, WWII and other wars would not have been fought. The Manchu would still rule China, 8 out of every 10 newborns would not reach 6 years of age.

It is in fact anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti-white racism. They have openly said so. They've even posted our "fragility" and our sinful attributes in the Smithsonian Museum. The envy, the jealousy and the rage are quite palpable. For now, it's just vented in its full fury at statues and our presumed protectors, the police. What's next do you think?

No comment #13- Wouldn't be prudent to post what I think is next- but I think it is going to be noisy.

Absurd.
Absurd as in anti-intellectual Kafkaesque idiotic dumbness.
To think this will somehow improve the “plight,” (Vine Deloria’s construct about Native Americans comes to mind) of black Americans is of course merely stupid, but of course not the real end game.
Americans are such sheep they still read the New York Times and listen to CBS News thinking it’s actual reportage.
They don’t see the lying machinations of the collectivists, who themselves wish to tear down a system with nothing to replace it.
Never ascribe to malice what’s better explained by slack-brained ignorance.
In the case of the pasty-faced middle class collegians of Antifa and BLM it’s evidently both.
