New York City’s progress fighting the coronavirus is doing little to help retailers, who say business in the city that never sleeps has become worse than anywhere else in the country.National retailers — from Shake Shack, Applebees, and cap seller Lids — say their Big Apple stores are bouncing back slower than even neighboring states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, which were also hard hit by the coronavirus. The problem, sources say, is Manhattan, which used to be teeming with tourists and commuters who have largely stayed away since the coronavirus pandemic hit in March. Wealthy Manhattanites also have more resources and flexibility to escape, indefinitely, to greener pastures,

Flee while you can if you want to have a life free of communism or before Comrade Cuomo kills you.

Of course, DeBlasio will say business is great, just like he says the city is the safest it's been..

They are really lucky Murphy, the NJ Governor, is an idiot or Jersey would be trying to lure Wall Street over to Jersey City and taking the Bull with them.

Remember all those great songs about those once-great cities: New York, Chicago, San Francisco - more than one song for some of them. Now all on the dust heap of history or whatever they say about old songs.

Lisa is totally committed to the C-19 crisis as the singular reason for the decline of business in NYC.
No mention of a communist mayor whose only interest is stores in his city is to gouge taxes from them.
No mention of the criminal mobs vandalizing, looting, and destroying the stores in NYC--with the support of a mayor only interested in painting graffiti on the streets.
No mention of the increase in crimes against persons in NYC--such as the astonishing increase in personal assault and murder, with city government proudly announcing a massive reduction in the police budget.
Not a great effort at attempted journalism, Miss Lisa.

Deman is down because people haven’t finished selling or wearing the surf they stole during the protests.

Agree, #8. I saw a video of NYC’s 5th Avenue shortly after the Floyd rioting and looting started. It was filmed by a man driving his car down the street and showing all of the boarded up windows for blocks on end. They included the windows of every high end designer or jeweler you’ve ever heard of. Are those stores still boarded up? And if not, who is prepared to stop them being attacked and looted again? Covid19 isn’t the problem. Communism in the mayor’s office is.

Whatever happened to Zillionaire former mayor Bloomberg? Not a peep! You would think he would say something. I guess he's too busy trying to prop up Joe Biden and supporting China.

So the question is . . . are the voters paying attention to this? If they elect Biden their world will become Bill deBlasio's world. Would they like that? Do they care? Are they even noticing what is happening in America's cities? Are they ready to hear the title of Kate Smith's song changed to "God bless this hellhole"? The left is attempting to destroy the family, religion, our history, our culture, our civilization, our constitution and our society. Hmmm. Maybe it's time for the voters to start paying attention.

The reason that retail sales are down is because there is NO ONE IN THE CITY. We just got back from two days there and at 8am on Monday morning there was no traffic on Park Avenue in the 70s. That is unheard of. The City is a ghost town. It is not just the mayor at fault, but Benito Cuomo. We stayed at one of the only hotels that were open. The restaurant in the hotel is fairly famous. Speaking to the staff they said they were prepared to go to Cuomo's step 4 where there could be indoor dining. They said the restaurant was reconfigured, everything cleaned, staff was rehired, large sums of money were spent to get everything ready and then three days before the opening Cuomo changed his mind and said no indoor dining. Businesses can't have this kind of chaos if they are going to survive and they are not surviving.
As a lifelong New Yorker who worked in NYC government for 30 years, I can say NY is finished. The politicians are socialist cretins. Their IQ levels are non-existent. That AOC is their leader tells you everything you need to know. People that have fled the City will not be coming back. And keeping the schools closed will only cement the City's quick demise. I know a lot of Ldotters are not fans of NYC, but it was a great City. Unfortunately, there is no Rudy Giuliani on the horizon to bring it back.

Just look at NYC, and one realizes they are anti-business, anti-job, anti-work, and anti-wealth. That's great if you are a moocher that sits on their rear end 24x7, but terrible for everyone else.

Sorry for the second post, but the statue that will be removed, if it hasn't been already, is of Teddy Roosevelt and it is (was) in front of the Museum of Natural History. There are no statues in front of the Met Museum.

The iconic moment of these Race Riots was when NY Finest just stood by allowing Blacks to loot Macy´s main store.
Communism is a bad idea and now Democrat chickens come home to roost. Poor NYC.

With restaurants closed and Broadway shut down, exactly WHAT is the attraction of living in or doing business in NY City ? Is it the stench of summer garbage or stench of the entitled homeless and millennials wallowing in their own filth ?

Cuomo can stop telling US not to come to New York. He needs to figure out how to keep New Yorkers from coming to US.

I left NY a number of years ago. Thank God I'm not there now. The entire state is in complete confusion. Upstate, above Albany, is still quite nice but anywhere else is a complete dump. Stay out of the cities if you go there. NYC is dangerous for anyone. I have two nephews on the NYPD, they say stay away. Sad but true.
