With coronavirus antibodies fading fast,
vaccine hopes fade, too

Disturbing new revelations that permanent immunity to the coronavirus may not be possible have jeopardized vaccine development and reinforced a decision by scientists at UCSF and affiliated laboratories to focus exclusively on treatments.
Several recent studies conducted around the world indicate that the human body does not retain the antibodies that build up during infections, meaning there may be no lasting immunity to COVID-19 after people recover. Strong antibodies are also crucial in the development of vaccines. So molecular biologists fear the only way left to control the disease may be to treat the symptoms after people are infected to prevent the most debilitating effects, including inflammation, blood clots and death.

The body is nonetheless likely to retain some, even if limited, immunity against future Covid infections. But FDA approval of a vaccine requires proof of antibody durability - approval would not be granted otherwise based on 'hoping' it worked.

I just tried to watch a talkety talkety video of a doctor doing an antibody test on a Prager U employee. 20 minutes of video and the result of the test was never given. So much for expert witnesses.

The Lord promised there would be no more floods, with the Rainbow, but that symbol has been co-opted and corrupted by the left. Perhaps the Covid is the next punishment for our turning to ungodly ways...

This is an amazing discovery. This means that all the effort that went into smallpox, polio, HPV, shingles, MMR, and seasonal flu vaccines was wasted since, apparently, we don't retain antibodies after they are produced. How were we able to eradicate smallpox around the world? Maybe the authors should go back to their immunology textbooks and read the chapter on B memory cells. These are the bone marrow produced leukocytes that are triggered by external antigens like viruses to produce antibodies. About 99 percent of the B cells are short lived but a small army of memory cells remains that can quickly clone themselves and identify the same antigens in the future providing long term protection. Viruses like flu have a very error prone reproductive scheme that causes them to mutate their antigen chains quickly to get around the memory cells which is why we need a yearly booster. My understanding of the mRNA vaccines under development is that they are targeting antigens that are on a more stable part of the virus that doesn't mutate as quickly and therefore can be identified over a longer period of time.
Even if the neutralizing antibodies fade away, the memory cells linger on.

I'll bet the media and the Marxists retain the virus scare tactic for years.

Any article that starts off with "Disturbing..." is not worth my time. Still, I did read it. The upshot: we'll never be safe, keep on wearing those masks.

I'm sure this C-19 went through my family last January-February. However, my antibody test a month ago, and my wife's a couple weeks ago were negative. At this point, all those asymptomatic positives we have today, could it be that they had it before and were re-exposed, prompting a new production of antibodies for them without the symptoms? Referring to #5's analysis, is this what happens with exposure to all the other viruses that we have been vaccinated for?

Two (three) thoughts...
This sounds like a good piece of science fiction where fact and fiction are interwoven so seamlessly that the reader cannot tell where one stops and the other begins.
The medical industry is in the business of providing treatments, not cures. There is more money in treatments. Keep the patient coming back over and over. Cures are one and done. More evidence that CV19 is dealing out a gigantic black eye to the medical industry.
With so many false positives and fake tests, how do we know the antibodies were in response to CV19 instead of something else?
Think i will be relying on herd immunity rather than anything cooked up by the medical industry. Not even going to be tested unless I absolutely must.

So we are going to shut down the planet because someone might get sick with a virus that might make you sick again after you had it the first time. Been me up mister speaker. No cure for the common cold either. No cure for a common hangover too.

This does give a backhanded endorsement of HCQ. “What we found is that if we use drugs that reduce the level of SigmaR1 in human cells, the virus cannot replicate in those human cells,” quoting UCSF researcher Danielle Swaney. It continues: "One drug that targets SigmaR1 is hydroxychloroquine, which Swaney said is problematic because it can cause heart problems."

FAKE NEWS
Based on a false premise.
Antibody levels DO NOT correlate with immunity.
After exposure, the immune system can rapidly ramp up and produce more antibodies when re-exposed to virus. Yes, this response can fade over time, but might take a decade...

#14, yes 0 except that the "heart problems" are ultra rare, and only have been seen when it is used for chronic arthritis for years. Nothing whatsoever to do with the way it would be used to treat Wuhan flu infection.

I regard the article as an OPED for some researchers at UCSF. All around the world scientists and institutions are making career bets on how to deal with this virus. The bets involve what ideas might get funding, what your facility and associates are best qualified to study, and what seems a possibility.
That is not meant to knock UCSF or other research. Profit making companies are doing exactly the same thing; seeking a Silver Bullet. And hoping to find one first.

Please correct me if I am wrong. This is a corona virus - the same type of virus that causes the common cold. I had read some months ago that there had never been a vaccine that worked against corona viruses. Is this the case here?
