I'm Milwaukee's police chief.
Here's what 'defunding

My name is Alfonso Morales. Most people call me Al. I was born and raised in Milwaukee. I am a proud second generation Mexican-American. I have a beautiful wife and two amazing children. I am proud to be your chief of police. Our officers are also members of the community, have families, care about police-community relations and, like everyone else, want to go home safely to their loved ones at the end of their shift

Proud Mexican-American. Well, enough said. In the grievance wars the Mexicans are only a step behind the blacks, but in the end I think they will prevail in the Mexican vs Black war that no one talks about.

When you defund the police here is what really happens: 1. Less officers means calls get backed up and are dispatched on a priority basis. 2. Slower response translates to suspects not apprehended. (because they don't stick around.) 3. Without certainty of punishment (a concept proven in research) suspects commit more crime. 4. Officers get frustrated and don't clear calls because they just receive another call. They stay on the call and grab a coffee or meal, take a break while logged on the call. 5.) Patrol is the backbone of Law Enforcement so disgruntled Detectives are cut and put back in patrol. 6. Without the investigators doing a through job and not following up all leads suspects stay on the street and of course commit more crimes. 7. Once response time is cut victims give up and don't wait on the corner for three hours after they are robbed to make a report. The information on that crime is not given out so the suspect can freely move on to another victim. 8. Once cops have no routine patrol time which is suppose to be 50% they lose all proactive ability and ignore all crime and simply respond to assigned calls. This is all on top of my head but it looks like the Chief never really saw any of this first hand.

I quit when I got to this:
wounds of oppression, racism and disenfranchisement have been reopened by examples of totally unacceptable and completely illegal police brutality. These are real emotions and reactions that cannot be understated.
I've heard enough bowing, scraping and apologizing for rioters who don't even know the reason they riot. And the young whites who have noting else to do because their Social Justice classes are now 'virtual'.
They just enjoy it.

The people who want to defund the police do not care about any of the good work they do, they just want to be able to lead a violent or criminal life without any interference. They want to drink and drive down city streets at 90 mph or sell drugs in the open.
Most of us can understand what defunding a hospital would mean, more untreated serious illnesses and more deaths. Why is it so hard for these people to see that a drugged-up lunatic with a weapon requires a police officer to be on the scene RIGHT NOW ready to do whatever it takes to stop him. If that means shooting him, so be it. Most cops do not want to shoot anybody they want to stop potential harm to others. George Floyd may have made it home safely that day in March or he may have caused a traffic accident that killed somebody's family. We still have no idea why Chauvin did what he did.

I have no reason to doubt that Chief Morales is doing anything but trying to do the right things here. But he needs to be better informed before he does it.
When he is no better informed than to say:
", too, am disgusted and outraged by the actions of those Minneapolis police officers."
I just stopped reading.
He is just as propagandized and misinformed as 99% of the people out there by the Ben Crump disinformation campaign. Mr. Floyd died from a drug overdose triggering a heart failure in a seriously damaged heart. He went into Excited Delirium and started harming himself and began having trouble breathing. Opiod overdose deaths are caused by respiratory depression. He was restrained according to department policy on Excited Delirium, and nothing external obstructed his airway or breathing.
I won't be "educated" by those who aren't aware of the facts in the case and decide to tell me about what is going on when they don't actually know what is going on themselves.
This is prety much a rerun of Ben Crump's last fraudulent, racist stage production, also aided and abetted by a politically driven Enemedia -- the Zimmerman-Martin case in Florida.

Right on #6. And you could add on that the officer was following APPROVED Minneapolis PD procedure by applying knee pressure to the back of Floyd's neck.

What these "De-Fund the Police" actions will accomplish is that from that point forward, all punishment for crimes stopped by armed citizens will be a quick and simple "Death sentence" for the law breaker. That will be the only solution to stop the criminals. If that's what the fools want, then that's what they will get.
