Bari Weiss, an editor for The New York Times Opinion section who describes herself as a “centrist,” published a scathing resignation letter Tuesday alleging that “intellectual curiosity” is now a liability at the “once-great” newspaper. Ms. Weiss published her resignation letter addressed to Times publisher A.G. Sulzberger on her website, alleging that she was constantly bullied at the publication for her political beliefs and that Mr. Sulzberger “stood by while simultaneously praising me in private for my courage.”(Snip) “My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views,” she continued.

There is only one TrueThink - - and all other thoughts must be expunged!
Forcefully when necessary.

Like CNN, the NYT might be in its final days.

Kudos to her for hanging in there so long. Can't imagine the pressure they put her under.

FTA:
“Twitter is not on the masthead of The New York Times,” Ms. Weiss wrote. “But Twitter has become its ultimate editor. As the ethics and mores of that platform have become those of the paper, the paper itself has increasingly become a kind of performance space. Stories are chosen and told in a way to satisfy the narrowest of audiences, rather than to allow a curious public to read about the world and then draw their own conclusions. I was always taught that journalists were charged with writing the first rough draft of history. Now, history itself is one more ephemeral thing molded to fit the needs of a predetermined narrative.

I do hope she lands well elsewhere with her crystallized insights to share.

I keep saying that Orwell missed three things when it came to the book, 1984.
1. The Year
2, The two minutes of hate have been extended to 24/7 all things Trump.
3. The Ministry of Truth is not in drab, downtown office buildings but in bright pastel-colored Silicon Valley corporate campuses.

Weiss is probably a person which I would disagree with on almost all political issues, judging by the fact that she works for the NYT, which has been extreme leftist for many, many decades. And yet, I agree with her letter, and clearly she sees how insane the mob has become. I'm sure she is pretty liberal, but not a foaming at the mouth revolutionary - so she is called a Nazi and a racist by the mob, and nothing is done to these mob members. They should be fired, not her driven out.
Even ordinary "liberals" aren't crazy, indoctrinate and hateful enough for the mob at the bottom now running the hate factory that is called the NYT. When you thought the NYT couldn;t possibly go any lower.....it does.
Stay far away from the NYT, never anything good there.

Once again I will comment on the spectacular success of leftist propaganda. Equating McCarthyism to the cancel culture of the left is way off. Evoking McCarthy as representing as low as you can get in launching unwarranted personal attacks is sign of the stranglehold that leftist propaganda machine achieved and sustained. Protecting our nation from those sworn to overthrow us and spread the most lethal force known to humankind is equivalent to destroying people for holding traditional American values? I think not.

It looks like McCarthy has been vindicated, in a way, now that they seem to be coming
out of the closet, especially since 2018. Remember that socialism is merely the precursor to communism and that comes from V.I. Lenin himself. And Joe Stalin described socialists as slow learning communists.

She's very obviously right in her indignation, but the anti-Trump messages remain (i.e., America first and populism). She understands how she is personally injured by not going along with the narrative, but still does not get that Trump and Trumpism, if you will, are the only forces that will stop the progression. So Bari makes some very good points, but still doesn't get the big picture.

McCarthy was right, but the communists shouted him down. The media helped the communists, and still do!

I'll say this about McCarthyism: back in the day that gave us reason to read the newspapers for more than the comics and crossword puzzles, and to go the movies to see the news reels.

Ms. Weiss. You have courage and conviction. The NYT has neither of those.
