One of the great California missions begun by St. Junipero Serra in 1771, Mission San Gabriel Archangel near Los Angeles, has burned almost to the ground. It was a 249-year-old church, as if California has a lot of those around, amounting to a huge destruction of the state's unique Spanish heritage. According to Catholic News Agency: A massive fire devastated an eighteenth century mission church in San Gabriel, in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, July 11. Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles called the fire at San Gabriel Mission church, founded by St. Junipero Serra, “devastating.”

Comments:

All they want to do is call the burned church a place of 'brutality.'

That 1.4 billion dollar donation from the gubmint will go a long way in rebuilding the church. A beautiful church. I attended a friend's wedding there in 1965,

We live about 5 miles from the mission and have heard nothing. This was a beautiful church, a parish church, where friends were married in the 1950s and returned to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. This makes me very sad...

Interestingly, I've found some web-servers 'can't find' the comment page on this article. You get a '404' not found response. As for the Left, they HATE Christianity with a passion, and all the more so, when the person in question followed Christs teachings above and beyond the Church doctrine of their time. And they lie about everything. I can't trust anything 'modern scholars' of history produce. It all has an edge and an agenda to destroy the remarkable remark on the deplorable, the latter of which they usually have to make up out of whole cloth, or track down the correspondence of enemies for a starting point. They don't do research, they sensationalize. Just like Global Warming. The result and how it reflects on politics is more important than truth.

The missions in Calif were mostly founded by a Franciscan priest (Fr Junipero Sera) who believed that Calif Indians should remain free from the govt at the time. Many Indians in Calif identify as "Mission Indians" and continue to worship God as Fr Sera taught. Most missions in the state are protected by the state.

Grew up in 1960's Glendora, Attended a Missouri Synod Lutheran private school K-8 and Mission San Gabriel was always a wonderful regular field trip. Our beautiful California would be far the worse were it not for our missions, as you can see now. This is a dastardly loss. The California Missions cannot be "rebuilt" after they have been vandalized and raped and this has gone way too far. Pope Stupid doesn't care; he likely supports this outrageous behaviour. I care because I live here.

Done by the Satanists, no doubt. NOT an accident. Haters going to hate. All churches need to hire armed security, 24/7.

My high school was located across the street from the backside of Mission San Fernando. I attended countless school Masses there, as well as family/friend weddings and funerals. We were blessed to attend a wedding at Mission San Juan Capistrano. My grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Mission San Gabriel when I was nine. All the Missions are active parishes, since their founding. I've visited many others along the Mission Trail known as the El Camino Real, or more commonly as the beautiful US 101. Its our drive between the homestead up in Redwoods country down to the outer ex-burbs of Los Angeles to visit family. I love the drive. It is a physical Litany of the Saints, which I pray as I pass each road sign for a city, town, county, road or creek named for one our holy examples; Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, San Jose, San Francisco, Santa Rosa - Pray for us! San Gabriel; the Archangel Gabriel is God's messenger. His greeting to Our Blessed Mother is the opening of our beloved prayer, "Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee." I do not think the San Gabriel Mission was a random choice by Satan's minions. I pray not, but I fear it will be only the first one of our fabulous missions burned or totally destroyed. Christian persecution has come 'round again. We are called to publicly rebuke evil and stand clothed in the Armor of God. Be not afraid. We've read The Book the enemies of God want destroyed, and we know the ending. AMDG - Behold, I make all things new.

Turns out you can personalize your t-shirt to say all kinds of ugly things - but not FreeHongKong. A nation founded on the rule of law appears to be yielding to the rule of the mob. Not everyone has surrendered. The trend, though, is worrisome. Too many of our “leaders” and institutions are failing us. In 2020, law enforcement officers in this country are being treated not just with disrespect but in many instances are being abused verbally and physically. Rioters and looters are going unpunished, not because they can’t be identified or the cases against them are weak but because prosecutors (several of them backed by George Soros) refuse to uphold the law and charge the offenders.

Here's what the man said to merit the socialist death sentence.

At the end of March, President Trump was on a roll: Having been acquitted by the Senate in February, he was taking credit for a coronavirus lockdown that “saved 2 million lives,” in his estimate, and was an odds-on favorite to win the 2020 election (a plus-seven-point margin in the RealClearPolitics betting average). RCP’s polling average placed his job approval rating at 47.4%, with over 50% approved of his handling of the COVID-19 crisis. In the battleground states, he was running close to even with Joe Biden. Three months later, Trump’s approval rate is at 41.5%, and his disapproval rating close to 56%,

Here's how bad it was: Prince Harry today faced criticism after he appeared to take a swipe at the British Empire by saying the history of the Commonwealth 'must be acknowledged', even if it's 'uncomfortable'. The Duke of Sussex, 35, made the comment as he joined wife Meghan Markle, 38, for a video call with young leaders from the Queen's Commonwealth Trust last week that was made public today. As part of the discussion on 'justice and equal rights', Harry said the Commonwealth needs to follow others

That's the spin from the New York Times, which has beclowned itself badly, trying to tell the audience that something smelly is shinola. To voters unsettled by President Trump’s disruptive approach to the world, Mr. Biden is selling not only his policy prescriptions but also his long track record of befriending, cajoling and sometimes confronting foreign leaders — what he might call the power of his informal diplomatic style. “I’ve dealt with every

"We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future," West wrote on Twitter Saturday evening. "I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION" It's not apparent how serious he is about running, but it seems unlikely the polarizing entertainer could actually unseat Trump. It's probably more likely he could use a little publicity for his upcoming album, "God's Country," and its first single, "Wash Us in the Blood," which was released earlier this week.

As for baseball, let’s be honest. It’s boring to watch and it’s even boring to play. Ordinary people who aren’t being paid to play baseball cannot endure it except by playing it co-ed with beer, which makes practically anything endurable including watching paint dry. About 90% of baseball consists of the players standing around while touching their privates whenever the TV camera is pointed at them or sitting around the dugout pretending to watch the other team while touching their privates. They often spit. Why do people pay to see millionaires lolling about in a park and hiding in a little concrete bomb shelter while spitting and touching their privates?
