If Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth eventually becomes Joe Biden’s vice presidential nominee, pundits and historians will look back to Independence Day weekend for the moment when her campaign jumped from insider gossip to mainstream appeal. Duckworth has long been considered an outside contender for the vice presidency. Her resumé is a Democratic dream: a combat veteran of the Iraq War, Duckworth sacrificed her legs in service to her country. After entering the House of Representatives in 2006 — flipping a Republican district long held by the abhorrent Henry Hyde, no less — Duckworth established herself as a progressive legislator and

# 1 is correct. Duckworth was born in Bangkok to a Thai mother and father of British descent. Under the 12th Amendment, she is therefore constitutionally ineligible be vice president. The gleeful, but ignorant, author of this opinion piece is Max Burns, communications director for the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights and is a former member of the Democratic Central Committee of Virginia and is a Democratic political consultant. It reminds me of an L.A. Times editorial many years ago celebrating the presidential viability of then-San Francisco Mayor George Christopher. Unfortunately, Mayor George was born in Greece. The problem for Democrats is that they think so little of the Constitution, they have never bothered to read it.

Article is already out of date. Tucker elaborated on this since and his point was made even stronger. Furthermore, Henry Hyde was a Republican? Who knew?

If she is the pick it will be a godsend for Trump. The Dream Team of Doom for the Hate America 'Rats. Trump is the only thing standing in the way of the complete destruction of this country if they have a big win. But God is protecting Trump and our nation and evil will not prevail. Just know that. #9, I hope that you were being sarcastic about Hyde. He was a wonderful man, a true conservative and the author of the Hyde Amendment which bars the government from using taxpayer funds to pay for abortions.
I met him once in 1998 at the same event at which I met our dear hostess, Lucianne. He was a widower by then and I wanted to invite him home for dinner - he was the kind of man who just oozes goodness.

with better piloting skills, she would not be a U.S. senator. she made a practice of campaigning wearing mini skirts to show her artificial legs.
i find that offensive, but always admire dirty politics.
Her father was a U.S. citizen, and was at least 18 years old, so I believe she is eligible to serve. She is the wrong color for the dimocrats, and is a moderate. Those two factors exclude her from Old Jo's search for a running mate.

OK, since she's a citizen at birth, she's legally eligible, I guess. But she has fewer accomplishments to her name than Barack Obama did. She lost her first bid to get elected to the House. She was eventually elected by changing districts but did nothing except vote the party line. Now she is a first term Senator (defeating Mark Kirk who ran for reelection despite suffering a stroke) who again has done nothing. It would certainly be a kick in the face to Sleepy's black supporters for him to select a half-white Asian woman instead of a black woman.

I saw Tucker go off on Duckpoop and watched her performance. She revealed that she is an ignorant, cowardly fool in not standing up for her country’s ideals when she called the Founders and others traitors. She got the sympathy vote in getting elected to the Senate. Basically, this is what diversity gets you! I think tha,t she is finished if Republicans put up up a good candidate. She would not be picked to be a VP under any circumstances after what she said—no way!

Biden won't function very long as Prez, then we will have a hate spewing cripple? She will use her prosthesis every chance she gets. An uncle of mine lost both legs, never heard him 'use' his prosthesis as much as this @itch! Perhaps she joined the military to get a good pension and there would be no danger. Possibly that's why she keeps shooting her mouth off hoping for points from the left. She would play right into Chinese HANDS and they are big and greedy!!!

#13 Excuse the second post. With potential apologies to author Burns, the source of my information about Franklin Duckworth comes from Biography.com, which says, "Ladda Tammy Duckworth was born on March 12, 1968, in Bangkok, Thailand, to a mother of Chinese heritage and a father of British descent." Wikipedia says that Franklin Duckworth was a former U.S. Marine lieutenant colonel who remained in Thailand after the Vietnam War. I cannot locate anything that confirms whether he was a U.S. citizen at the time of her birth.

Unless she has TWO citizen parents at the time of her birth, she's not eligible for the office. An anchor baby isn't eligible, nor is a naturalized "first generation" citizen
The Founding Fathers were clear on this. When they wrote the U.S. Constitution, they used various books and legal documents. The term "Natural Born Citizen" was mentioned in only one of those books or documents: Emmerich de Vattel's "The Law Of Nations" (1758). In fact, there were three copies of the book at the convention. Barack Obama, who claimed to be a constitutional scholar, knew he wasn't eligible and that's why, as senator, he tried to change the legal definition of Natural Born Citizen.

Where are the Republicans? If you go to Breitbart, everything is negative about President Trump. I'm sick of not hearing a peep from the RNC. Cruz, Cotton, and both Scotts, need to take control and form a coalition of Republicans from the Senate and start traveling with him to rallies. Jordan, Stefanik, Biggs, Zeldin, Collins and Nunes can get going from the House.
It's time to open your mouth and stand up.

The Law of Nations is not in the constitution. Duckworth is naturally born since she was an American citizen the moment she was born. There is no constitutional reason that prevents her from being president. Only her bad character and stupidity, plus being on the failed Biden ticket, will keep her out of the White House.

#41 "The Law of Nations is not in the constitution."
The U.S. Constitution does not come with a glossary. As such, you have look at the source material that was used to draft the document. There was only ONE source material that mentioned or defined the legal term, Natural Born Citizen, and that was the book, "Law of Nations." The founding father didn't create the concept nor did they pull it out of thin air.
The Natural Born Citizen requirement was instituted in order to prevent divided allegiances. Additionally, anyone who was alive at the time of the signing of the Constitution was exempt because we were a young nation.
As for Tammy Duckwurth being a Natural Born Citizen or even a U.S. citizen because "she was born here," that's not exactly true. There is no such thing as anchor baby citizenship in the Constitution, and the 14th Amendment clearly banned the practice. When the first draft of the amendment was submitted, it was rejected because there was a possibility that it could be used to allow birthright citizenship. Consequently, it was rewritten to prevent the possibility of that happening. On the floor of the Senate, Sen. Jacob Howard of Michigan, who wrote the amendment, stated: "This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers."
Consequently, when President Eisenhower deported 1.5 million Mexicans in the 1950s -- even the ones who were born here -- they had no legal claim and didn't fight the deportations in the courts. It wasn't until 1982 when a liberal Supreme Court Justice invented anchor baby citizenship out of thin air, when he claimed that the 14th Amendment gave citizenship to illegal alien babies. For the first 114 years the amendment was in place, it didn't allow such a thing. For the record, the justice's rewrite of the 14th Amendment appeared in a footnote of an unrelated case.
If Tammy Duckworth was born here to foreign parents who became U.S. citizens, then she's either a Naturalized Citizen or a Native Born Citizen -- but certainly not a "second generation" Natural Born Citizen. And if her parents never became citizens, then she's an anchor baby. It's a shame that the Supreme Court refuses to visit this issue because it's quite clear that there's no legal basis for anchor baby citizenship.
