Charlie Daniels, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame best known for "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," died Monday morning after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. He was 83. Daniels' death was confirmed by his publicist, Don Murry Grubbs. He is survived by his wife, Hazel, and son Charlie Daniels Jr. By the time the Charlie Daniels Band topped the charts with “Devil” in 1979, the instrumentalist, singer and songwriter had long established a remarkable, multifaceted career in Music City. As a session musician, he played on three of Bob Dylan’s albums — including the revolutionary “Nashville Skyline''

Sad news. My SIL used to work in a recording studio and saw Charley on a regular basis. A truly likable and friendly good ol' country boy. What you saw in public was the real deal.

we lost a rational conservative voice, who spoke in words understandable by most everyone.

"Uneasy Rider" was one of my first favorite songs. And Trump played "In America" at Mount Rushmore. Great musician and a Patriot. RIP CD.

It really breaks my heart. After a sad and sorrowful Independence Day celebration, to wake to this news. God bless the Daniels family and friends who grieve him, too. He was a light in our community, especially to Wilson County, Tennessee.

After an especially meaningful Fourth of July, we awaken to news such a great American, talented country music star and Godly man has gone Home. Thank you Charlie for your bold conservative tweets and interviews standing up for President Donald J. Trump. I say it again - he is one of the last of the country music legends to who stood unashamedly for God and country. Today’s country “stars” could take a lesson!!

My friend and I were set to see him in Waterbury, but covid-19 hit. Our great loss. The country's great loss.

I saw him at a Billy Graham crusade where he played several upbeat versions of hymns on his fiddle. Beautiful! Watch out, angels, the heavenly choir's never going to sound the same after today!
God welcomed home a son. May his friends and family take comfort in that fact.

All the above & then some! I had the pleasure of meeting him at the top of his touring career. He was the kindest and most gracious person imaginable. In the last few years, his writings and unbridled patriotism made my love for the man grow immensely. God rest his soul.

Interesting and amazing that he played on Dylan's "Nashville Skyline." I can remember visiting relatives in California as a young pup, and my older cousins listened to that album over and over. (Probably the first "country" music they'd ever listened to, and they were enthralled.) It was groundbreaking for Mr. Dylan - he loved to poke the ant-pile back then,
I've been a Charlie Daniels fan for almost 50 years - will miss him. (Never cared for his big "Devil" hit... but I like a lot of his stuff.) Condolences to his family and friends.

Charlie Daniel's rendition of "Still in Saigon" was perhaps his most moving song, as it spoke to a that portion of a generation who answered their country's call to war and were reviled by their fellow citizens for their sacrifices. Though Charlie was not a veteran, I can't imagine anyone else doing that song justice.
