Twitter is dropping decades-old coding terms like "master" and "slave" as the Black Lives Matter movement continues to cause ripple effects through the tech world. The company's engineering division tweeted out a set of words that it wants "to move away from using in favor of more inclusive language." The list includes replacing "whitelist" with "allowlist," "master/slave" with "leader/follower," and "grandfathered" with "legacy status." In programming speak, "master" refers to the main version of code that controls the "slaves," or the replicas. (Tweet) The social media company had already been striving to incorporate inclusive language into its company

Maybe they could use 'grandmothered' instead of 'grandfathered', since most bLACKS don't know their fathers or grandfathers.

Twitter is as racist as the rest of the radicals they support. Not only racist, but anti-American activists. It has now become the voice of anti-American enemies- foreign and domestic. It needs to be broken up, like other monopolies before it.

Blacks should be insulted by this. The original problem is the high rate of black fatalities, and not just the ones killed in police custody. What's being done about it? NOTHING.

A *LOT* of companies are doing this. Only a few are doing the virtue signaling announcements.
Twitter should be ashamed for not doing this sooner! We can't base our freedom of speech on racist code! /sarc

Those terms have been used for as long as there have been electronics. In selsyn devices, invented in the 1920s, the term is used, because the 'slaved' rotary driving unit will match the rotational position of the 'master' rotary position unit.
There is nothing racist about this at all. It is a technically accurate term.
These people are literally insane haters just hunting for opportunities to be offended by NOTHING.

In my 40 plus year career in the Electrical trades, I was a helper, an apprentice and then a journeyman. Finally in the last 18 years of my career I was promoted to Master Electrician. This did not last very long because the people that be said that was racist. So, I became a Special skills Electrician. As the pay was still at the Master rate did not much care. But now, Jesus Christ on roller skates what's next? The master switch in my Piper Cherokee? The master cylinder in my car? Self release? As a charter member of the silent majority , this TradesmaMAN is fed up'

Eric Blair aka George Orwell tried to warn us with his novels, 1984 and Animal Farm, but we stood by and let the media/Hollywood rationalize communism in America. Commie actors, writers, directors, professors and politicians built their base under cover of 'diversity', inclusion, freedom of speech, etc.
70 years later we are on the brink of watching it all be crushed under rat double speak. With millions of hysterical morons who have been conditioned to hate this President over proven lies and who detest anyone who isn't a rabid rat, we could soon find ourselves with a lot more to worry about than someone screaming at you for not wearing a useless face mask.

So, auto hydraulics like the brakes and clutch...will have to be renamed? Hydraulic clutches have used master cylinders to drive slave cylinders for over a century. Now typically the brake master cylinder drives the wheel cylinders with drum brakes and the calipers with disks on most newer cars....so maybe without the slave cylinder...you can still have brakes on your car.
But those, like me, who prefer to shift their own gears, .....that slave cylinder is apparently going to join BLM and revolt.

"Master" is a term used in many industries. The master is what copies are made from. It has nothing to do with color.

Okay. You have two hard drives. One is the master, one is the slave.
The master has the boot information.
How can we label these drives?
Politically correctly, of course.
Or a pantograph.
Or a Leroy set.
Who will pay for the millions of manuals which will be needed?
Probably billions.
Think of all those cars with master cylinders.
Or all the Master locks.
