New York City's famous George Washington Monument in Washington Square Park was defaced with red paint on Monday as protesters gathered further downtown outside City Hall ahead of a controversial vote that could slash the city's police budget by $1billion—16 percent of its total—despite escalating crime and chaos.(Snip) At City Hall, protesters who have set up an Occupy City Hall camp clashed with police on Tuesday morning. The protesters have been there now for a week and are refusing to leave until the NYPD budget is cut by at least $1billion—something that is likely to happen on Tuesday.

Nice to see NYC police unions finally deciding they don’t like Democrats. Its way too late but its still nice to see. This is all up to New Yorkers to fix.

DeBlasio, Cuomo, Schumer, et.al., all belong in jail for allowing this to happen. Better bring Giuliani back to fix everything.

He didn't realize that not protecting his city and pandering to looters would result in a total breakdown of revenue and a loss of civil society? It will be difficult to repair the,"Big Apple." We are only a couple but have no intentions of entering the City until it changes management and enforces laws.

The Big Apple is wormy. The democrats want that for all America. They have been working on the big cities and welfare states for a long time, and now sense that they can make their big move on the country.
So far, we can stop them at the ballot box. If they commit enough fraud to take power, we will have a civil war.

"Accused" of surrendering the city to lawlessness?
Hey - - Warren Wilhelm's "intention" was to surrender the city to lawlessness. This is something he's proud of.

"None are free until all are free". There is no slavery in the USA. Why not go after countries where there is slavery , The Sudan, Iran, Cambodia , Pakistan, Mauritania, Afghanistan, Central African Republic,Burundi, Eritria, India ( over 18 mil slaves) China, ( 3.4 mil slaves).

The place always was an armpit. Its just way worse now. It should be permitted to die without taxpayer intervention. On the other hand, it may be worth it to keep their refugees out of the free states. We have too many now. Even MORE of their attitude and politics could ruin small rural areas like mine.

Thoughts about George Washington. What came to mind was the battle in NY near the beginning of the War, in August, 1776, when the Brits (the nation that really did bring slavery to this continent) almost crushed Washington's army. A heavy fog set in and obscured the landscape enough for the remaining American troops to slip away in all available boats to cross the East River undetected by the Brits. The fog, or as many have said, Providence, God, saved George Washington and therefore the Revolution.
The History Channel used to show every year from 2006 (i think) a 13-part miniseries on the Revolution. If you can get it, it's spellbinding. And informative. If you agree, get your kids and grandkids, your family, to watch. Many great books out there, too.
But, definitely, get a copy of President Washington's Farewell Speech. It will bring you to tears of grief at how far we have fallen.

Like Minneapolis, whose going to pay for De Blabos security, when the cops all bail out? Has he and his Mizzus stolen enough to afford private protection paid for by themselves? Of course, no Dem politician pays for anything for themselves, that's what the sheep are for.

The good part of this is that the looting arson and weekend killing is occurring in NY, Chicago, California and such, all of which are rock solid Democrat and would not vote Republican anyway. Let them burn. The red states are seeing a perfect example of what Democrats will accept and condone.

Where is the outrage from the elite stars of Broadway? Broadway is closed and no one wants to go to NYC again to watch. They are no longer stars but are now just like the rest of us isolated away from the bustle of the city. Welcome to the Democrat's Utopia. Workers not welcome; only thugs.

the 3 council member in Minneapolis are not paying for their own security. The taxpayers are. The three claim they are having life threats made against them. Odd that there are only 3. and No proof. But the taxpayer is getting billed for the private security. Wonder if this will happen with all council members after they get rid of the police. the threats are just an excuse they want to be protected but the peons in the city are not to be protected

New York City is roaring in to the 1970's. The movie "Taxi Driver" was a documentary that will be able to be remade without changes.

New York City along with Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, Detroit etc can burn to the ground for all I care. They don't want the police, then watch what hellholes those cities become in the next few years.

I can't imagine living there. It's going to be a Jungle now that the Police are going to pull back. Good luck to those who used to walk to work. Not safe to do that now! I would bet lots of those expensive apartments will be on the market by next week. Why not! Nice home, big yard for the Dog a private car to pick you up every morning to get you to the TV Studio and back home at night. That's going to be the only way people who work at ( FOX) a Studio or large corporation are going to have to live! Maybe they will think twice before they vote Democrat again! Maybe. But, I wouldn't bet on it!

I was thinking of that as well #9. NYC does not deserve a statue of the Father of our country. Make no mistake George Washington was the keystone to the Revolution succeeding. There are plenty of other places in this suffering country that would be proud to have that statue and if they all fall to the rat infestation, stand it up in my front yard. The Castle defense will protect it.
Smug, pious, insufferable, NYC really should take a lesson from Detroit. Of course they are too arrogant to learn from what happened to a city that at one time had the highest per capita earnings of any city in the US. The stock market has already splintered. As another poster said, without Wall Street NYC would quickly implode.

Slides into the red, as demanded by the NYC voters. Scenes from the Marxist utopia: angry chaos in the streets, monuments and buildings vandalized by Peaceful Protestors, and an overall sense of complete lawlessness that the police couldn't possibly control if push came to shove. "Just keep your foot on the gas," as one sign says.
