Morale within the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is currently at a “record low,” thanks to the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests and the vilification of police by local politicians.Robert Harris, the director of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, told CBS Los Angeles that officers feel “beaten” and “bruised” by the ongoing protests. That was corroborated by a Breitbart News source within the LAPD, who said: “Morale across the rank-and-file is at a record low. Especially out on the street in patrol. We have been vilified and abandoned by the mayor, all but three of the city council members, as well as many business owners and residents

I had to quit being a cop in the 1980's after only four years because the stress was so unbearable. Mostly it involved ostracization by neighbors, and supervisors constantly looking for reasons to write us up. You always saw people at their worst and after a while it starts to look like all anyone has is a worst.
All that was before everyone had cameras recording your every move, and armchair warriors could have your image and actions judged by literally the entire developed world within minutes. It was before you and your family could be cyber stalked by fat, pasty college commies and wanna be Brown Shirts. It was before a cop had to record himself every minute just to fight the lawsuits. And it was before it became stylish to kill the same cop who would drag your family from a burning car or house.
Nowadays I'm earning twice what a cop makes and all I'm doing is operating industrial machines. There is no action, no adrenaline and no sense of accomplishment. Nobody cares that I do my job or even IF I do my job. Everything I do will be forgotten ten minutes after I retire. But I pay my bills and live comfortably, and no longer dread going in to work every night. Thats worth something.

LA will be a much better place - - when the police force is replaced by the Council Of Concerned Screen Actors.
Law and order will be replaced by tolerance and diversity. If a right-winger is mean to you - - a unicorn will come to soothe you. I'm ready to move out there - - as soon as the changes are made.

Since the voters in LA, Minneapolis, Chicago and our other large and violent cities prefer Democrats, socialists, greens and black radicals, morale is going to get worse, not better for police. Which means things will get much worse for us as “social justice” replaces“ law enforcement, racial/gender/trans quotas replace qualifications and the fear of arresting a member of the actually “privileged “race” takes hold among the white members of police departments.
Making matters even more depressing is that most of our troubled cities are in deep blue states, where the same radical politicians set policies that few normal people would ever want. Since aware citizens and perceptive businesses have the ability to move out of these cities and states, it will be almost impossible to change the political environment that is strangling these Deep Blue cities and states. The takers will rule over the makers, and we will be increasingly divided and conquered.

The way the current liberal democrats abuse the LAPD officers would cause Sgt. Joe Friday to turn in his badge today.

If people obeyed our laws we wouldn’t need police. So the cities that are defunding and replacing the police department, are the citizens going to obey the laws?
I think I will be staying out of cities that do not have police departments
Agreeing with # 6 for #1. There are far more people who appreciate the police and what they have to put up with, then not. My family has many LE Going to be a cop, be a good one. I pray everyday for all our LE in this country. Not an easy job!

The root of the problem is that the democrat left-wingers believe that the way to obtain power is through violence, intimidation, and even murder. Of course, they do not want a strong law enforcement.
Those democrat left-wingers consider most Americans to be sheep, that they can control with the violence and intimidation. Unfortunately, many of the younger generations are sheep. They have been conditioned to be sheep. They have been taught how to take offense over whatever outrage is posted on social media. They have been taught to indulge their emotions, instead of how to think critically. However, not all of them are sheep. Many have now seen what's over the mountain.
We the left-wing radicals vastly outnumbered. Patriots from every walk of life. Veterans, law enforcement, mothers and fathers, blacks, whites, Latinos, Asians, and every other demographic.
Our problem is self-serving politicians and judges, and a corrupt media. We have a legal system that caters to charlatans, shysters, liars, crooks, thieves, murderers, and every other low-life creature out there. The old saying that money is the root of all evil is proven every day.

Dem run cities are going to descend in to the hell that was depicted on the big screen in "Escape from New York". If you wondered how they "got there" in the movie.....THIS is how. The voters voted for extreme leftists and they drove out the police...and then there were only the criminals left, and those strong enough to defend themselves, and the smart ones escaped.

When you've sworn an oath to serve and protect, then repeatedly get orders that either make you stand down (making your citizens be victims of violence) or that make you victimize the citizens yourself with unjust city, county and state executive orders that only serve to prove control, no amount of money in the world makes you feel good about the job you're doing.

This is the same LAPD department that retreated in 1992 to allow the Rodney King racial riots. That was how Clinton was elected. When Gov. Swartzenegger tried to pass reasonable propositions to fix California the Police, Nurses, Prison Guards, Firefighters and Teacher Unions defeated him to protect their gold-plated pensions. They are Democrats.

The left always seems to assume that people will put up with their garbage endlessly. This may be because they conceive of jobs as government sinecures or because they would like to be able to compel people to accept their dictates. In America we still have options, particularly in the Trump economy. Soon it will be a matter of 'finding' police, not ordering them around. This will be tragic for the citizenry but maybe, just maybe, it will sway some independent voters and rational democrats (if there are any left).

It makes sense for the police in the democrat controlled sewers to think about re-locating. There are plenty of cities in flyover country that would welcome and support them. Those places should consider helping with their re-location expenses.

I'm a LAPD daughter and a LAPD wife (different men!). Dad came on in 1947 after returning from his army service in WWII, when William Parker cleaned up the department after deep corruption during the Depression and war years. Chief Parker built the LAPD into the best department in the country. It was also a department that benefited from positive images on TV with Dragnet and Adam 12. As such it became the Left's first target and victim. After the Watts riots (Dad was there) the department was hit with the first law suits against police. It was the first department to suffer the legal machinations of a "consent decree", resulting in the banning of the bar-arm control and placing restrictions on using the baton. Team Policing was all the rage in the early 70's. Dad saw the writing on the wall and retired in 1974 at 27 1/2 years. The extra two-and-half years to retire at 30 wasn't worth it.
TK came on in 1969. During his career he was involved in the SLA shootout, the Hollywood bank robbery shootout, the Rodney King riots and working 77th Division (south LA) night watch. The OJ verdict was his last straw and he retired at 21 years, having planned on doing the full 30. TK was also CA National Guard concurrently with his police career, where he achieved the rank of Major. After his LAPD retirement he was offered a full time position with the Guard and served another five years working a drug smuggling task force at LAX. We bought our homestead in 1993 and left the city in 1999.
Its been almost 50 years since my Dad retired from the premier police department in the country. The slow march of the Marxists have destroyed that department and the great city that once held such promise. My heart grieves for my hometown that the men of my family dedicated their lives to keep safe. I'm so tired of crying every day.
MAGA:KAG - God help us and keep President Trump safe.

There will have to be some sort of law enforcement in those big, violent cities. If one were to completely abolish its police force, carnage would ensue and everybody with the means would flee those cities and destroy the tax base. They will then restore the department but have to pay cops $125,000 plus a year to put up with the job. It's either that or drop standards so low that they will get a department riddled with real bullies and thugs. Sort of like the Old West towns that would give a badge to the meanest guy in town and tell him to crack heads and keep order.

I was married to a cop....I suspect our marriage ended because of the stress.... he became removed and distant....one night I sent him out for midnight duty with his helmet and shotgun to a race riot at Cabrini Green in Chicago...and I told him..."shoot first--we'll solve the problems later"....message to cops guarding mayor slow foot in Chicago... walk off the job...let her deal with chaos at her front door.....

My son is a cop in Phoenix. He said there is a huge number that are retiring. A sister squad had 3 of 11 officers put in paperwork to retire this week. A guy on his squad has 4 years in. He says he’s getting out. He doesn’t see taking this abuse for another 16 years so he can retire. My son has 10-12 years in. His wife finally understands what he is saying. I expect he will be done before the year is out. Damn shame. He WAS proud to be a police officer.

I always could tell that #15 had a good upbringing, and now I better understand how that came about. Thanks, #1, for your service, too. Not an easy job.
I have a number of police officers, mostly retired now, who have been friends, including a small town police chief and chief of detectives of a medium sized city, one who went on to work for the FBI. I have done ride-alongs to see just a tiny bit of what they have to do, and been through some of their training simulators. I am still an outsider, never wore the uniform, don't really know what it is like, but I have heard a whole lot of stories and discussed them, how they responded and why they responded the way they did, always listening carefully. I learned a lot about that job.
IMO, being a police officer is a very difficult job, and people who are distant from the job, and the people don't grasp it at all, are very ignorant. Most know nothing about the training officers have, and the kinds of violent and crazy people that the run into with amazing regularity, and how difficult the instant decisions which are required can be.
