Conservatives were outraged eight years ago when Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts voted with the liberals on the court to uphold Obamacare's individual mandate. His swing almost singlehandedly saved the Affordable Care Act. A few years removed and he made a few better decisions, somewhat appeasing conservatives. But last year he helped kill the census citizenship question. Then, last week, he voted with liberals to reject President Trump's attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The court didn't say that Trump couldn't reverse the program, but that his legal reasoning wasn't up to par.
I was not aware that the reason Justice Roberts voted the way he did on this case was because of a precedent on which he voted against. That means that he would have voted to uphold the Dredd Scott decision.

He probably thinks he's "saving" the Supreme Court by caving to the liberals. He's just the Neville Chamberlain of this century. Appeasement never works. It just emboldens the opposition.

The only thing I can figure out is that W just took the advice of someone to name Roberts without really checking into him. (Remember how he first named Harriet Miers until he got overwhelming opposition and she withdrew her name?) I'm thankful that Trump put forth a list even before his election of names that he will consider for the SCOTUS. That way it gives people time to check them out, weigh the positives and negatives, etc. Even that's not foolproof with some of the votes that Gorsuch and Kavanaugh have made.

Roberts needs to spend more time with his family, especially his illegally adopted blond hair, blue eyed kids. While we are awaiting AG Barr to "do it by the book", our civilization is being ripped apart.

I disagree with Robert's decision, but he may have saved the republic from the very likely expansion to 15 justices if the Democrats should capture the presidency and both houses of Congress. This is a perilous time for the Court. Liberals have made no bones about it. Roberts would likely do anything to prevent such a calamity. There will be more cases, but none would endanger the Court as an institution than this one. I think he looked at this as a "strategic advance to the rear." He may feel a need to play the role of a Kennedy possibly for the next four years.

I have come to believe Roberts really is being blackmailed. Seriously, someone needs to look into it. DOJ, Senate, the "Press" (ha, ha) Anyone? Anyone? He's not that "umpire" calling balls and strikes. He's the deep state, SJW scorekeeper.

The DACA program is unconstitutional and a violation of federal law. Trump’s ‘legal arguments’ in this case are irrelevant. Roberts is the very definition of a politicized activist judge who refuses to understand what his job is. That’s why he always has that smarmy look on his face.

In life, there are two types of people. One type has to DO something.
The other just wants something to do. Roberts is the latter. This type
feels the need to get along with people and equally as important,
be liked by others. Go along — Get along! Don't rock the boat!
The 'DO something' type must do what is right, regardless of whether
it's politically, socially, and personally popular with the masses.
Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead.

Completely agree #6.
I have believed that since he was going to rule against Obamacare and suddenly changed his mind. Knowing what we know now about Obama's abuse of nearly every agency and the depth of the "Deep State", it makes perfect sense. Especially if he's being blackmailed because of his adopted daughter. We know what they did to Flynn , using his son to coerce him into pleading guilty.

I was done with Chief Justice Roberts when he ruled that a premium was a tax.
Since then he has just gotten worse. Somebody has the goods on him, big time.
Of course it may be the case that he does not even read the rulings that his law clerks write. He may just sign them.
Who knows? He is not accountable to the people of the United States, the Constitution, the legal code, or anyone except for the glitterati in DC. Now there is a group he can support totally.
"Take everybody's guns away and hide them in the sand. Free food for everyone, and abortion on demand."
No more conservative judges. Give us judges who will stick to the law as written, and use the words as they were used at the time the law was written. No more legislating from the bench.

This is so much at stake, #6, that if he were being blackbailed, he still has not a smidgen of honor as he stays on the court. I do not buy it. I don’t buy that Dubya just did not pay attention when choosing first Harriet Meier or Roberts. His dumb “mistakes” always tilted one way - left. If this was just sloppiness, that would not be the case. Conservatives and just God-fearing patriots will remember Dubya always for Roberts.

Conservative Dubya and what we were told is his even more conservative wife quickly came out in favor of abortion and homosexual marriage quickly after he left office. Add in the refusal to seal the borders, mandating mortgage loans for illegal aliens, the bank-breaking Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind, ramping up importation of Muslim refugees right after 9/11, refusing to drill in ANWAR, signing off on the incandescent light bulb ban, mandating ethanol in our gasoline, and many other injuries to the republic and someone might suspect it was no coincidence that the traitor snuck a liberal in as chief justice. I too suspect Roberts is hiding something, and unlike David Souter, he lacks the decency to step down. If we had any patriots in the alphabet agencies they'd open his file for all to see.

Rush Limbaugh had an excellent point re: Roberts, who I admit is the disappointment of the century and, I think, subject to wanting to be invited to the right cocktail parties. The Court is once again a PRIME issue re: this election.........there certainly will be one if not two openings, and there HAS to be someone to counter Roberts if this country is to survive!

My feeling is Roberts is picking his battles very carefully. The Daca and Abortion cases were gifts to the Dems and his liberal colleagues on the SC. He has decided conservatively on important Trump issues in the past and believe he will do so again. He should not be practicing being fair and balanced on the Supreme Court which is exactly what he's doing. I believe there may a some big cases coming up soon, like mail in voting, stacking the court, making DC the 51st state, or reparations. If he voted yes for any of those, especially mail-in voting, it would be the like gunfire and the start of a civil war for sure. if he did that, he can pack his black robe up and get out of town quickly.

Roberts is bad enough. But what about the four liberal morons who always vote the way their base wants them to vote. They rarely, if ever, disappoint the so-called libs. Do they ever read a case or do they just vote against the American people without ever consulting the Constitution? They are the real villains in this desire to destroy America.

If anything, this should push Conservatives out to vote even more, as there is strong likelihood of 2 openings in the next term, and if they decide they will sit out the election, they will indeed get the liberal Biden, who will be ousted by the 25th Amendment within the first 100 days, and maybe first week. Only to end up with the extremely liberal Warren who will have a new Senate majority and the House to ensure they get those 2 kept as liberal justices.
They are coming for the 2nd amendment, and don't really like the 1st amendment either.

The Courts have too much power. They are legislating. They ought not to take so many cases, taking ONLY those which truly require Solomonic wisdom (if there is any in the majority).
And Congress needs to do its job and legislate, debate and tough it out.
Things are out of balance.

Those who denigrate Bush for the nomination of Harriet need to reread their constitution. They do not need to have been a judge prior to the nomination. She was a totally legal pick for the court as there were several justices who were not grads of Ivy League, nor were they judges. The stupidity/arrogance of only nominating Ivy League grads is exactly why we are in the liberal pickle we are in. Ingraham and Coulter were total snobbish hags about her, simply because she wasn't Ivy League.
This slide started in the 60's and you all know who was in charge then. The Court should be filled with justices who represent ALL legal thought in this nation, not just the leftist and snobbish Ivies. For those who forget, she is the one who was responsible for vetting Alito. He hasn't been too bad.
Roberts has some serious ethical issues regarding his kids, not to mention his FISA court supervision. He is in it up to his eyeballs, and I do wish Barr would stop acting like Roberts is untouchable. That is the thinking that got us to the place we are in. Nobody in government is untouchable, not if they are guilty of crimes.

I think he was chosen by Bush because he was compromised and could, at the appointed time, be controlled.
The Bush family is just as much into globalism as the Clintons and George Soros.
McCain and Romney would have been equally corrupt, had they been elected.
One president saw the danger of these agencies in our government, but JFK and Bobby didn't live long enough to "splinter it into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds.”
