Dr. Fauci warns coronavirus vaccine may not lead to herd immunity in US

Dr. Anthony Fauci says he would “settle” for a coronavirus vaccine that’s 70 percent to 75 percent effective – but warned that the US may not achieve herd immunity to the contagion if too many people refuse to be vaccinated, according to a report. “The best we’ve ever done is measles, which is 97 to 98 percent effective,” the top US infectious disease expert told CNN. “That would be wonderful if we get there. I don’t think we will. I would settle for [a] 70, 75 percent effective vaccine.” (Snip) A recent CNN poll found one-third of Americans said they would not try to get a vaccine — even

I'm not an anti-vaxxer but I won't be first in line for a vaccine that has been rushed into production.

So, let's whiz away billions to develop a vaccine for a virus that is come and hopefully gone, and which will continue to evolve in any case. It's not about the money...

As incurious as the CDC has been about how this disease transmits, whether asymptomatic people are infectious and if so when and for how long, how long immunity is maintained post recovery, how mutagenic this virus is, and scores of other vital bits on info, why exactly should we trust these government bureaucrats statements concerning anything ti do with a vaccine? It is pretty sad when you have to rely on foreign sources for valuable!e scientific and medical information because everything here has degenerated into partisan politics in a lab coat.

#18: Winner of the day for saying the most truthful thing. Herd immunity happens when people are out around various viruses, and hse been happening since mankind has been on earth. Vaccines are so full of toxins and not necessary at all for herd immunity, and I don't trust Bill Gate''s attitude of both wanting a massive depopulation and demanding that a vaccine be mandatory worldwide.

Your comment is not totally inaccurate, #21, but the time scale of mutations is such that it is likely that a vaccine will still be effective. The vaccine replicates a portion of the external structure of the vaccine, and while there is no doubt that RNA viruses drift steadily, the odds of the entire external structure changing dramatically in a short time are not high. It is possible that the particular piece of the exterior of the virus that is used for the vaccine may change suddenly, but not likely. Imagine teaching people to identify a .57 Chevy by external factors...teaching them that they need to look for a specific style of rear fins and a chrome edged contrasting color swoop area down the side at the rear. The engine may change, or the interior, or the wheels, or the windows, but as long as the tail fins and chrome edged contrasting swoop are there, people will see it as a 57 Chevy.

Decisions on abortion and separation of powers demonstrate how good ideas about the law become empty words on a page. We usually associate courage (or its absence) with leadership by elected officials: There are times when it is hard to stand up for your principles, to stand against your own party, or both. From judges, we are told, the important thing is to follow, not to lead: to have the ascetic self-discipline to apply the Constitution and laws as written,

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday struck down a Louisiana law regulating abortion clinics, reasserting a commitment to abortion rights over fierce opposition from dissenting conservative justices in the first big abortion case of the Trump era. Chief Justice John Roberts joined with his four more liberal colleagues in ruling that the law requiring doctors who perform abortions have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals violates the abortion right the court first announced in the landmark Roe v. The St. Louis lawyers who pulled weapons on protesters marching past their home are being investigated for possible criminal charges, the city’s lead prosecutor has revealed. Mark and Patricia McCloskey — who went viral after brandishing an AR-15-style rifle and a silver-colored handgun, respectively — were the only ones to lodge a police report over Sunday’s confrontation, insisting they were “victims” of threatening trespassers who entered a gated community, the St. Louis American noted. But the husband-and-wife lawyers are being probed by police and prosecutors for possible threats against the crowd, authorities announced Monday.
