New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) is proposing a $1 billion cut to the New York Police Department's annual budget as calls grow across the nation for local governments to divert funding from law enforcement and put it toward other social services. De Blasio said at a press conference Monday that his office presented a budget to City Council over the weekend that would "achieve a billion dollars in savings" for New York police. He said that the funds will be shifted to programs impacting young people and "communities in a way that would help address a lot of the underlying issues that we know

How about impacting communities and young people in a way that keeps them from being murdered.
This is Deblasio's version of IDINSEENUFFIN

If you think crime is out of control now....wait 6 months. NYC is going to be a really dramatically more dangerous place to be.

Spreading the salary budget among the remaining officers should mean that each policeman gets a raise. The retirement and attrition has been horrendous and with just cause. NYC you are in serious trouble (more).

The NYPD is responsible for protecting and chaufering the mayor with a gas guzzling SUV. Instead of the SUV the police should get an older marked car from a precinct and tell him this is the vehicle he should be getting used to in anticipation of the budget cuts. And make sure he sits in the back seat.

At the rate New York's Finest are leaving de Blasio's scape-goated police force, the billion dollars will be saved before you can say "What's taking the cops so long to get here?"

I wonder how a 5'3" social worker will enjoy going to her first "domestic violence" call and trying to deal with a meth-head wife beater and possibly his equally violent partner, both of which have knives, guns, bats or just a very big iron skillet. Should be a fun way to practice all that useless "constructive dialog" training they learned while earning their useless "[fill in the blank] studies" degree.

A total victory for criminals anarchists and looters. NYPD is suddenly a second class unarmed security guard company with no authority or power to do anything. Add in their o bail arrest and release policy and it’s an open season on committing crime 24 hours a day with no regard to gettin caught tried or punished. I suggest the same cuts to the judicial system.

Will Warren Wilhelm Jr put his wife in charge of these "social services"?

I suppose then that there will be no police able to enforce the draconian gun laws and no one to arrest a citizen for shooting a criminal. Should be fun.

1 billion would pay 10,000 cops 100,000 per year. It doesnt seem like it anymore. But 1 billion is a crap load of cash. You could employ 32,000 people at $15 per hour, 40 hours a week.
You could buy 100,000 homes in Detroit with that kind of cash, or 1000 efficiencies in NYC.

The psychobabble goes thus ...
When dealing with a domestic violence situation you must explain to the combatants that first their partner must feel "validated" and then do breathing exercises together.
Any PhD psychologists out there care to argue the point ? Start by making me feel validated.
