Cam Newton’s reported signing with the New England Patriots on Sunday drew reactions from across the NFL, including San Francisco 49ers star Richard Sherman, who appeared perturbed that the former MVP had to sign for the league minimum. Newton and the Patriots agreed to a one-year deal which will pay the veteran quarterback more than $1 million, according to multiple reports. He reportedly could earn up to $7.5 million in incentives, according to the NFL Network.Sherman tweeted that it was “disgusting” for someone like Newton to get paid that kind of money while some backups are making $3-5 million this season.

Why don't your morons let Cam Newton speak for himself?

Perhaps I missed something. Did someone have a gun to his head? Is he incapable of acting in his self interest? I assume he is represented by an agent.

Professional athletes are entertainers. Their job is to attract fans to stadiums/arenas for a fee and to attract fans to watch on media to justify advertising fees.
Reimbursement should be based on their ability to attract fans. This could be accomplished by paying them a percentage of team (or league) revenue. No fans, no income.
Let the market decide.

There was no demand for his services. That's why, Richard. Stanford didn't teach you that.

Time for a Black commissioner of the NFL. Only a Black can represent the 80% Black players.
On the other hand maybe it's time to make the NFL 100% Black.

Black sticking up for black. Apparently didn’t see this:
Pro Football Focus pointed out that they ranked Newton between No. 23 and No. 27 among quarterbacks over the last four years, not including his injury-riddled 2019.
Newton agreed to it. And there are megabucks in incentives (are those anathema to these black athletes who want it all up front?) Maybe it was the best offer he actually got?
They’re all overpaid. And the 2020 season looks iffy at best. Sherman, it’s all disgusting….

Looks like he's getting paid what he's worth. It's how the market works. The NFL is dead for me so I really don't care.

A player with multiple injuries (two rotator cuff surgeries, left foot surgery) who was placed on injured reserve and later released by his previous team comes to the table with a weak bargaining position. If he proves that he's overcome his injuries, he'll earn more money and the Patriots will have made a smart move. Otherwise, his season with the Patriots may be his last in professional football.

"...while some backups are making $3-5 million this season." When did Newton last start an NFL game?

Newton is a good quarterback. He's better than some, but not as good as others. His worth is what owners are willing to pay for his services. If Newton wasn't satisfied with the contract, he and his agent wouldn't have signed the contract.

Cam decided to be a hot dog and run the ball instead of being a passer! Surprise...injury after injury after injury... When will NFL QB's learn they aren't big enough, fast enough or tough enough to be hit by defensive LB, S's, and 350 lb. linemen who run 4.7 40's!

Well, once Brady and Gronk left the Pats, i have little interest in what the team does, unless they fly the flag and play the Anthem respectfully. Of course, i am apathetic when it comes to sports, for the most part, but will watch with hubby occasionally (well, more during the Brady years); used to watch the Red Sox and Bruins when i was younger, when everyone was taught about the greatness of the American experiment, since our parents had fought through WWII. Dad told us some stories (sparing us most of them) about his Army Air Corps experience.
Our parents and grandparents knew how close we had come to losing it all, to fascists and communists and Japanese imperialists, cruel and bloodthirsty.
Now, the lazy, arrogant, self-indulgent and selfish really dumb younger generations (i am speaking generally. I have nieces and nephews who are awesome, truly wonderful hard-working, thoughtful young people, millennials and younger), wrecking, demolishing, spitting invectives, no respect, no intelligence, just raw barbarianism. AND, AND this includes most Democrats who can't find it within themselves to stand for the nation they presumably serve (but don't, really), but crave power like insatiable whoremongers.
So, no. I do not care about ANY sports or entertainment indulgences while the Republic is insulted and is so imperiled.
