Former Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday that he would compel Americans to wear masks in public if elected president. In an interview with Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA, Biden said that he would use federal power to “mandate” masks. Q: I know you have been critical of the president’s handling of the pandemic in the past. But let’s look ahead. The idea of using "federal leverage" to compel such behavior ought to send a chill up every free person's spine. This isn't about masks and COVIDS. It's about the power of the executive and his government in a free society. If Americans "elect" this course, they're bigger idiots than given credit for.

Why not? If the Federal and state governments can simply order businesses to close, people to stay at home, people to stay 6 feet apart and then apply these rules in a very haphazard fashion, ANYTHING is possible. The Supreme Court stopped following the rules of the Constitution decades ago. Now even goofy state Governors can make up rules that NEVER would have been thought of, let alone enforced, a few short years ago. The political parties are absolutely corrupt, as are the many new unbounded 'law' enforcement agencies. DC and state capitals are trading houses for illegal bribes given to filthy liars. ALL of it conducted by a media that is very skilled and relentless in brainwashing a majority of dopey voters and almost every preening 'lawmaker.' I have a strong feeling we will be even more amazed by what is coming. It will be another crisis that requires extraordinary measures and we will look back fondly at the time where standing in a line behind a tape mark waiting your turn to shop at your store where you saw more empty shelves than usual, all while carefully keeping a hot, ineffectual, face mask over your nose and mouth. This on the heels of not being allowed to wear a mask in a store, followed by no plastic to paper bags to recyclable bags to paper bags. Apparently the population is mostly sheeple with a sprinkling of maniacs marching under new communism. Somewhere, some time, some of the sheeple will push back. Hopefully peaceably by vote in a few months. If not, then it gets very dark.

Decisions on abortion and separation of powers demonstrate how good ideas about the law become empty words on a page. T here is a saying — perhaps as old as Aristotle — that courage is the first virtue, because it makes all the others possible. We usually associate courage (or its absence) with leadership by elected officials: There are times when it is hard to stand up for your principles, to stand against your own party, or both. From judges, we are told, the important thing is to follow, not to lead: to have the ascetic self-discipline to apply the Constitution and laws as written,

His swing almost singlehandedly saved the Affordable Care Act. A few years removed and he made a few better decisions, somewhat appeasing conservatives. But last year he helped kill the census citizenship question. Then, last week, he voted with liberals to reject President Trump's attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The court didn't say that Trump couldn't reverse the program, but that his legal reasoning wasn't up to par.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday struck down a Louisiana law regulating abortion clinics, reasserting a commitment to abortion rights over fierce opposition from dissenting conservative justices in the first big abortion case of the Trump era. Chief Justice John Roberts joined with his four more liberal colleagues in ruling that the law requiring doctors who perform abortions have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals violates the abortion right the court first announced in the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. In two previous abortion cases, Roberts had favored restrictions. The Louisiana law is virtually identical to one in Texas that the court struck down in 2016.

Former president Barack Obama has been "working" on his third memoir for several years. In that time, his wife, nutrition extremist Michelle Obama, has authored and published her own internationally best-selling memoir, Becoming. For whatever reason, Barack appears unable to tolerate his wife's literary success. He has expressed an almost pathological level of annoyance at Michelle's ability to complete a memoir in under two years. It was a sore subject in 2019, when the Atlantic published a (sort of) preview of Obama's forthcoming tome, but with few details beyond the fact that the former president was struggling to keep it under 1,000 pages.
