Will Americans choose the USA, or will they
choose the NFL?

When it comes to players taking a knee during the National Anthem, will Americans side with the USA or the NFL?
At this point, nobody knows for sure, but those on the left are feeling emboldened and confident for a reason. Have middle-class Americans become increasingly complacent and lost the will to stand up and fight back?
NFL owners who support their players kneeling during the National Anthem are routinely heard saying they feel that the act of kneeling shows respect for the hardships minorities have endured and that it exhibits inclusivity and brings the country together.
At the risk of sounding overly disdainful regarding such deceptive drivel,

NFL, MLB, NASCAR, all of them. I never was much of a NBA fan so that loss won't be felt at all. I'm hoping college football is still a safe haven, OSU coach brouha notwithstanding. O-H...

Americans will do what they have always done, nod in agreement to political indoctrination then move to the suburbs away from crime, drugs and violence and send their kids to private schools.

Those who disrespect the American Flag have never been given a folded one.
I choose the flag. These pampered jackarses can scream all they want about discrimination and whatever other complaints they may have. Every ethnic group in this country suffered the same types of discrimination. But every other group fought their way out of it instead of declaring themselves victims.

I predict empty stadiums and less than ten percent of the NFL's former peak TV ratings are coming. Spectators will be gangs of roving troublemakers making live attendance impossible or at least not enjoyable even for those who approve of the kneeling. NFL owners are now in the same class as NASCAR owners. Trash.

Easy choice for me.
I haven't watched any football since Bart Starr retired. Last basketball I watched was the UNM Lobos in the early 70s. Never watched NASCAR, although I used to like Formula 1 and Indy Racing. Baseball always bored the heck out of me. Haven't even watched any Olympics for ten years or so. I use the term sportsfan as a pejorative.
And the last time I went to a movie theater was for the third Lord of the Rings movie. Don't subscribe to any of the movie streaming services either.

It's been over four years since I viewed an NFL game. I couldn't tell you who is or was Super Bowl champions. I have been in one our favorite eateries when a game was on the big screen TV and that's about it. The NFL and NBA don't exist to me.
I never watch NASCAR but they have created their own problems by 'taking a knee' for BLM. It seems they have their version of Jussie Smollett with this black driver called Bubba. Fake racism charges and FBI investigating a garage door rope or something. New rules for winners being winners now the slower cars can catch up and maybe win. Do you think this is like affirmative action to help Bubba out who never won a race. Stupid is as stupid does.

Haven't seen an NFL game since A.K. (after Kaperdink) Nice weather will see the Harley on the road or a top down ride in the 'Vette. Lots of car shows to attend almost every weekend here in S. Louisiana. Getting together with friends and grilling, crayfish boils and fishing, hunting! There are just too many things that you can do besides sitting inside watching a bunch of racist, anti-Americans play games that we played as kids. There's nothing you can do to change the outcome and in the grand scheme of things, won't make a bit of difference in the world. Add 'woke' former 'hero's ' like Farve and Brees to the immaterial column, and ask yourself why we ever bothered. Pro sports are as essential as hollywood movies, which is '0.'

roger Goodell has been a poor commissioner, who traded short term gains for long term stability.
He will leave his position as commissioner of the NFL, count his money, and in retirement, will become a legend in his own mind.
If the Pittsburgh Steelers protest, their blue collar fans will largely disappear.
And I would imagine other teams will face the same problem.

...sadly, the NFL is a lot like the USA....
...it was running along just great for the past 50 years ...becoming the best / most successful sport ever...making the most money ever...expanding and creating historical opportunities for so many....it had the most fans trying to get in - everyone wanting to be a part of what was going on
...no other sport could touch it...the ONLY way it could ruin things for itself... was from within...by kow-towing to an angry, hate-filled, very vocal minority who politicize and ruin everything...and they use social-shaming and the ( ironically) shameless media as their major weapons.
...the NFL is a microcosm of what's going on in the Country right now....will we allow a miniscule minority of malcontents to ruin everything??...
...I guess we'll see the Answers in September...and in November

I love sports & have been a big fan of most all sports all my life.
I always appreciated the competition, even if the sport wasn't my cup of tea (Cricket, soccer).
But I have to say, I have not really missed sports over the past 3 months.
Like everyone says, there are a lot of other things to do out there, such as get on my 1700 cc Triumph & go for a putt.

Like anything, sports will reach a peak and fall. Things always do. Everyone used to know the World's Heavyweight Champion...who is it these days?
NASCAR will take a bigger viewership/attendance dip than others after the great "noose" debacle. THAT was much bigger than any Kaepernick-inspired foolishness. It smacked of another Jussie Smollett hoax...more than a mere mistaken overreaction. On the heels of all else, including the ban on the Confederate flag, traditional fans of NASCAR smell something awful. And that was compounded by Alabama's Republican governor, who essentially accused Alabamians of racism.
The NFL will take quick action with the networks to screen out any protests if ratings begin to tank. They'll keep the cameras focused on the flag and flyover, mute the booing crowd if necesary. In 2018 overall, NFL viewership across CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN and NFL Network averaged 15.76 million viewers, up 5% from the 2017 season, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Game attendance was off a bit, but the league still managed to draw 16.7 million spectators, while it averaged 17.3 million over the past decade. Far from the empty stadia of which some post pics (usually pre-game when the crowd is tailgating). Another contributing factor is the small stadium the Chargers have been using, capacity 27k. And let's not forget, most tickets sold are season tickets, which few are willing to relinquish.

Will anyone see the woke gesture? Are NFL games going to be played in empty stadiums like MLB or will fans be allowed in? Networks show the National Anthem before the SB but do they broadcast it during the regular season?

I have to disagree, while posters here are willing to boycott they are not representative of the public as a whole. Unfortunately filling their fat bellies with beer and chips watching a bunch of morons running up and down a field is way more important to them than standing up for their own country. Trump has just been an interruption in our slow long decline.

Well said OP. Over paid spoiled brats in both the NBA and the NFL are going to be the death of pro sports. And those who excuse this stuff with a 'I just watch my local team' need to face reality. Your support is keeping this garbage going. Time for folks to fish or cut bait.

The NFL should not be allowed to play this year. The players would have to stay 6 feet apart and wear masks, mandatory. The owners will have to wear masks and also stay 6 feet apart from their guests in the skybooths. The officials should not be allowed on the field until 50% of them are women, same for the coaching staffs. We should also bring more diversity to the announcer boothes. Hot dogs should not be allowed to be sold at the parks. They are unhealthy. Fans should not be allowed to drive carbon producing vehicles to the parks. The players should not be allowed to wear uniforms made by slave labor in foreign countries. Football was invented by whitey, so should not be played by nonwhites. The television networks should be forced to give equal time to women's soccer. Players salaries should be equalized to promote equality. The DOJ should begin an antitrust investigation of the NFL.

All of these people, the National Felon's League, the National Blackballer Association, NooseCAR, forget that they are either Performance Cast Members or support people of ENTERTAINMENT companies.
Regardless of their Paid Performances, they are NOT Heroes.
..... and I very well get along without ANY of them!
Now, if NASCAR, the so-called 'National Association of STOCK Car Racers, ran lightly modified (for safety) versions of STOCK cars, instead of them all running IDENTICAL cars with 'logo' Stickers...... and if they did anything other than Turn Left, I MIGHT be interested.
If the National Felon's League had players who grew up in their 'home city'..... if the Detroit players grew up in Detroit, the Dallas players grew up in Dallas, the Jacksonville players grew up in Jacksonville...... and if they ABSOLUTELY BANNED all the Thieves, Rapists, Thugs, and Dog-Fighters...... I MIGHT be interested.
As for the National Blackballer's Association, where the Cast Member's 'scorecard' is: 1) Number of Baskets, 2) Number of Rebounds, 3) (most importantly) Number of Females Fornicated.......
I have, and will, NEVER take an interest. Period.
But in any case, they have all Drunk the Leftist 'Politically Correct' Kool-Aid of the Entertainment so-called 'Industry'.
Just as Disney went from Walt's family decent films and the Parks being 'a nice place to take the kids on a holiday', they have been completely infiltrated, taken over, and infused with Leftist Political Correctness.
They can ALL go take a Long Walk off a Short Pier!

I have conversed with some of these young people on FB lately and their lack of any historical grounding is frightening. They are all up to date on bLACK lIVES mATTER propaganda though.
I had one of these kids actually try to tell me that the Republican Party was the party of racism and slavery. Dangerous times ahead.

I think I will suddenly have something else more important to spend my Sunday afternoons doing this fall. And in a sport where the vast majority of the players are blacks pulling million dollar paychecks for running up and down a field knocking each other silly for a ball, I find it ridiculous that those same players are STILL claiming to be "oppressed " in America!!
