Atlanta got its first brief look at what abolishing the police looks like after their officers walked off the job overnight in protest of charges in the Rayshard Brooks killing. Entire shifts reportedly walked out and neighboring jurisdictions reportedly refused to assist Atlanta except to back up officers on the job, although the city tried to downplay the wildcat action: [Tweet]
That’s not what the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported last night, and it’s not what those listening to police scanners heard, either. A reporter from the local CBS affiliate said her sources confirmed the walkout: [Tweet]
The union didn’t seem interested in downplaying it, anyway:

The police are "self-cutting". If people don't want police, they are getting what they want. They just need to remember to not complain about slow response or no response when they suddenly realize that maybe, just maybe, they need the police after all.

Ms. Bottom of the barrel will soon be governing a city in chaos. Couldn't happen to a more racist, incompetent, affirmative action idiot.

Commitment is invalidated when the rules change. The Mayor changed them..

Police officers must look to defend themselves and their families first and foremost, beyond any employment commitments that they made to the City of Atlanta and the politicians who will not back them up when it comes to the political nut cutting. As this goes along, common sense will tell you that the City of Atlanta can expect a lot of retirements and resignations of experienced police officers.

The mayor is full of beans. The police are right. This latest legalized media-political lynching of a police officer is beyond the pale. Keep it up and there will be NO police officers, people won't do the impossible job at ANY pay scale.

#8, you are mistaken. There will be police, but they will be corrupt on a scale so as to make the reward worth the risk. It will not be the taxpayer who will be paying them, instead it will be the criminals. If people think that the police abuse their power now, wait until they see how the only people willing to take the job after this behave.

And as for the people who burned down the Wendy's franchise where this occurred ? what ? The franchisee and Wendy's had absolutely nothing to do with any of this. Who's arrested for arson ?

Want to see America's police forces in a few years, take a look at Mexico. Any policeman still alive down there is working for the cartels.
The normal police commitment is "To Serve and Protect." The "Protect" piece has officially been removed by democrat mayors. They might as well have been department store manequins dressed in blue during the past few weeks of looting and burning.

Actually that is Madame Mayor #1. I am wondering if the reality of what will happen with no cops is starting to sink into their pointy little heads yet. Don't be asking those honorable men and women to be helping you out Mayor, not when you and all the blue cities and states are full of hate and disrespect for the profession of Police. If Biden's campaign picks Ms. Bottom to be his VP, the comedy will not only never end, but could go international.

They are sowing the wind and will reap the whirlwind. The big cities will descend into chaos. The police officers will leave and go to smaller towns where they are appreciated and more will be hired to protect the little towns from being raided by big city thugs when the barbarians run out of food and electricity.

The police should walk out and not return until their demands are met. I would start with demanding the white officer's investigation be completed before he is charged, and if charged, that he be given a trial, before he is hung.

Perhaps the DA, up for re-election, should honor the oath he took when he was sworn in. But then he couldn't grandstand, declare a white police officer whose taser was fired at him after the suspect resisted arrest guilty and hopefully, in his mind, get re-elected.
Atlanta may not burn but there will be a lot more innocent victims as the cops stand back waiting for situations to resolve themselves before responding.
