The CEOs of two of the world’s biggest social media platforms are attacking President Donald Trump anew as they angle to censor some of his comments and ‘fact-check’ his responses.Snapchat chief Evan Spiegel is defending his platform’s actions to limit the reach of the president’s content by actually invoking the First Amendment’s free speech guarantee while urging other platforms to do the same.Spiegel, who heads up Snapchat and Bitmoji, made his remarks during an interview with Bloomberg News that was published Thursday. They come after Twitter started fact-checking President Trump’s tweets last month, referencing cherry-picked articles to support the claim that he’s been dishonest.“The government is explicitly threatening

Hmmm, doesn't that make Snapchat a content provider rather than simply a platform for discussion? You might want to run that question by your legal team?

What? So freedom of speech means people can censor the president? They have become unhinged, drooling, foaming at the mouth crazy. Seriously, the left is scary insane.

Commenter #1 hits the nail on the head. If they are platforms, they cannot censor. If they are content providers...they are free to tailor messages, but are not protected from libel laws. Broadcasters, using federal airways, have to be careful to air equal time.

I have never seen such an attack on Free Speech in my life, whether newspapers that no longer allow comments after articles, college professors who are openly hostile to non-liberal students, internet social media sites which are acting like publishers, or professional Social Justice Warriors who will go after a business or individual by destroying their livelihoods.
This isn't the America I want to live in. What happened?

Typical Leftist doublethink: black racism is anti-racism, fascism is anti-fascism, and the first amendment guarantees the right to censor free speech.

Liberals are pathetic hate filled losers. They are the thought police. They are big brother. George Orwell saw these losers coming years ago.

It seems to me that censorship goes one way with these people. It’s their interpretation that counts. This goes beyond fake news...it’s propaganda!

#4, It also removes the CDA section 230 protections, making them civilly and criminally for everything that is posted

Laughable argument. You have a right to your opinion but you do not have a right to suppress my speech, especially if you enjoy legal immunity from publisher liable laws.

The first amendment is about the right to censor? Wow, I thought it was the opposite. I guess I need to get with the pretzel logic of the modern age.

Censorship is not free speech. What school did that Snapshot CEO go to? Cuba? China? Venezuela? Russia?

When these people throw in with democrats, they lose all the traditional protections provided by law. Plus, they technically could be liable for illegal campaign contributions with this censoring as well.

Let's not confuse "Free Speech" with some obligation to publish whatever presented, whether newspapers, broadcast media or web "platforms". These are private property, and their owners have every right to ignore those they choose to ignore, including PDT.
It begs the question, why are there no "conservative" Facebooks or Snapchats? The so-called fat cats couldn't see the future, or won't invest in the infrastructure? Why not?
