The story below is the fifth in a series on America’s small businesses, their struggles under the shutdowns and threats of rioting, and what they’re doing to survive. Over two weeks, The Federalist traveled the country to tell stories like this one.
In South Dakota, the only state in the union to never enforce a government-mandated shutdown, we spoke with cowboys, ranchers, steakhouse owners, hotel managers, great grandparents, actors, bartenders, and even the governor to learn the state of American business. We heard of their successes and perils, those who hadn’t made it and those who still might not.
SOUTH DAKOTA — It’s a long, beautiful haul, driving across Wyoming. Pulling out

Kristi Noem the Governor of South Dakota. First woman Gov of that state. Healthy 48, married with 3 children. A common sense leadership style. Republican and a giant of leadership in a country of pandering communist rat Governors who are really insane. If she has the stomach for it, I'd love to see her as a candidate after 4 more years of President Trump.

When you read about people like this, makes you realize just how worthless ALL the protesters really are.

Makes me want to move to South Dakota. If my kids and granddaughter weren't here in Portland... Oh, well.

Long article and worth reading. The 'Old West' lives on a bit in places like South Dakota. Imagine if inner-city neighborhoods had the same rugged, independent spirit.

Well done, South Dakota. Hard life, hard working people.
But how much real risk of this virus is there in SD? How many subway cars does South Dakota have?
What percentage of their population leaves their home and takes a crowded elevator to a jammed sidewalk, walks to a jammed subway platform, then rides a jammed subway car, and rides a jammed elevator up to work? Any? Even 10?
Different places have different risks, need different strategies. This is the right thing for low density states, and responsible people.
Bravo to SD!

Hard working people, yes. Makes me wonder what the hordes of protesters do when not protesting. Do they even have other jobs? Is protesting their actual job? Who pays them? And for all they've destroyed - how much do these heathens collectively pay in taxes? All their wet dreams for reform is going to cost lots of tax dollars, and those of us who DO pay for that want something different.

South Dakota and Wyoming are pretty attractive relocation destinations for fed up conservatives except that the winters are brutal; long and brutal.

Reply 9; the brutal winters are worth it if it keeps the liberal cockroaches away!

Did a IPTV/MMDS project in "New Effington" SD a few years back.
Very first question? WTH was "Old Effington" like?
A 3 block main street, 4 lane bowling alley, 1 bank, 1 bar, and a combo dry-cleaners and car wash (no, I never figured that one out!) closest place to stay without camping gear was an Indian casino 30 minutes away in ND or your choice of Fargo or Sioux Falls SD both 70+ plus miles - your choice, North or South?

as i read this excellent article, I thought of Lady Lucifer, aka Hillary Clinton, back in the 1970s, turning 1000 dollars into 100,000 d0ollars in just one year.
she is so smart, she was able to conquer the Cattle Futures market, simply by reading the Wall Street Journal!
Don't worry about the variables, she must have told herself.
