The Secretary of the Army is willing to talk about whether posts named after Confederate generals like Braxton Bragg or John Bell Hood should be renamed.
An Army official on Monday confirmed that Secretary Ryan McCarthy would support a bipartisan discussion on the subject involving all stakeholders.
Several Army posts, primarily in the South, are named after generals or other officials who served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. They include Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Polk, Louisiana; Fort Lee, Virginia, and others. The issue of having Army posts named after men who were slaveholders

These statues and places named after Confederate dignitaries were largely the product of Southern Democrats as an 'in your face' insult to Blacks and the US victors in the civil war. I have no problem removing and renaming them all. It was revisionist history to think the Civil War was fought over 'states rights' - BS! It was fought over the issue of slavery upon which the Southern economy was built. Leave Southern pride to NASCAR, peaches, and Gulf beaches.

Founding fathers of the CSA perhaps. At one time it was a gesture of unity to respect the deeds of the Confederacy. We were able to compartmentalize the cause, isolate and admire the astounding deeds regardless of the cause. The very unity that Lincoln was focused on "let em up easy" is at cross purposes with the insurrection that seeks division.

And here I thought (was taught ) that only socialist and communist countries change history by changing the
recorded facts of history. So, are we imitating communist countries, as many here suspect?

Two can play this game, and not just with the Jefferson Memorial. How about Joe Biden's segregationist Jim Crow colleagues from the 70s? Why do we still have Fulbright scholarships? How many public utilities, parks, etcetera are named after "Sheets" Byrd, Kleagle and Exalted Cyclops of the KKK? McClellan, Stennis, Sparkman, Long, and Talmadge should also ring bells for name changes.

Right. And while we are at it, let's get rid of all the Christian names. San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, all have to go.
The only religion allowed is BLM, to which we all must take a knee.
And all the crosses must be removed from all the tombstones. Can't have that.
And while we are at it, kill all the Jews.
There. Fixed it.

Growing up in an Army family, living on post at Ft. Benning and Ft. Gordon (then named Camp Gordon), and having served as an Army officer, I'd be in favor of this. Why not use the occasion to rename the forts after more recent Army heroes, especially Medal of Honor winners? Ft. Benning, the home of the Infantry School, could logically be renamed after George C. Marshall, a five star General, Secretary of State, author of the Marshall Plan, father of the Infantry School. Ft. Gordon after Audie Murphy, Medal of Honor winner, the most decorated soldier of WWII. This seems to be an opportunity to bring us all together, rather than splitting us apart.

If this gets traction, the real tell will be if posts are renamed after living people. Naming facilities and parks after living people has been going on for some time in the civilian world. Like uniformed bigwigs, McCarthy likes to think of himself as some sort of visionary while lording over an organization which hasn't won a war in decades. Chump.

SO the new names will those of COMMUNIST Leaders?
Sorry dude, really stupid idea. If the pajama boys in BLM and Antifa don't like the names, Pound Sand!

My guess, outside of a small plaque at the base, few likely know anything about any of the people who the forts and bases are named after.
And, I doubt many are taught any of it in school either.
Now, if the names were a "in your face" thing from a by-gone era then I'd say let's find a more suitable name.

If the PRESIDENT has any say at all in this, he should absolutely shut this idea down. Maybe he needs to fire a few more generals or name a new Sec. of the Army. He should remind them that this is a REPUBLICAN Administration and as such, we are not going to bow to the wishes of the Progressives! Period! Enough with trashing our Statues and changing names of buildings, bridges and schools Enough is enough!! Anyone who isn't with the program can resign...now!

Fort Al Sharpton, well Fort Sharpton would be great, right Ryan? I mean it would certainly make a statement. Next up, names of towns and cities across the country. A nation where the average idiot has NO idea what their town in named after.
Until we raised a crop of soft headed cowards whose sole focus is their phone and smashing stuff when they aren't playing video games, this nation used to look FORWARD. Everything we did was for a better life for us individually or for our community. Now it is a bunch of whining snowflake victims who act out if you call them on their stupidity. They have no idea what they are wishing for. A world where a can of soup is a treasure. The sad thing is they could tour their future if they took a trip outside the horrible USA. There are entire continents waiting to give you a lesson in growing up.

I think #16 has a great idea although my first response to the article was a firm objection to renaming these forts. The problem is, these wimpy Generals are virtue signalling and they will never honor Sargent York or Audie Murphy in such a manner because its all about skin color.

I am so sick and tired of all this revisionist crap about changing names of our military bases and posts. You can not and should not try to get rid of the past.
As a retired MSgt, I would fight tooth and nail to stop this madness, and it's the spineless, basement dwelling war protesters wanting this to be done. Well I find it offensive seeing Skidmark's name on streets in my home town and I want his name removed as they didn't ask my opinion.
