A hardworking father killed just before 1 a.m. A West Side high school student murdered two hours later. A man killed amid South Side looting at a cellphone store at 12:30 p.m. A college freshman who hoped to become a correctional officer, gunned down at 4:25 p.m. after getting into an argument in Englewood. While Chicago was roiled by another day of protests and looting in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, 18 people were killed Sunday, May 31, making it the single most violent day in Chicago in six decades, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab. The lab’s data doesn’t go back further than 1961.  Correction **

Insanity. More black lives that don't matter I guess. From the article it would seem that the victims are black, most killed in the violent riots triggered by George Floyd's death.

It's so sad but bound to get worse as the left blames bad cops and systemic racism. How about trying what has worked in the past - pro-active or "broken windows" policing? Instead the left tries the opposite while blaming systemic racism. Blighted communities and poverty exist because of crime, not vice-versa. While Trump creates "opportunity zones", the left creates tragedy zones.

As another LDotter has coined it, ChiCongo. Welcome to the United States of Africa thanks to the Leftist Communists and their Party Organs in the MSM who have stooped to the lowest level and elevated fringe group, like BLM and Antifa, whose ties are to Communists outside this country. In our past we had an FBI who would police these groups and arrest them to keep society safe, but that was pre-Obama, Community Organizer in Chief, who has put his seal of approval on BLM and made sure the FBI from top to mid-level has Obama holdovers ready to protect "his legacy" for years to come. President Trump, please begin your famous "Apprentice" firings of evildoers in the FBI/DOJ/CIA, immediately.

Why are no media outlets covering this? This is a huge story. No one, including conservative pundits, talk about the consistently outrageous murder rate in Chicago. Hannity should start a daily body count. Conservatives should not allow this to continue to fly under the radar. They need to broadcast this! It nukes the liberal narrative, including tougher gun laws, yet the story is ignored (including by the Chicago Tribune today - nothing).Thank you Lucianne! I hope DJT tweets about it.

I grew up 40 miles north of Chicago in Libertyville. In the 1950s and 1960s, northern Illinois was a fine place to live and grow up in. Youth sports were plentiful and there was a lot to do. Going to the north side where my grand parents lived for an occasional sleep over was a favorite. But, Chicago since the 1970s has been slowly but, surely dying on the vine. Entirely due to political corruption, crime, and dim leadership. The projects have become a social wasteland, a mini-Venezuela, you might say. Chicago is broke. The schools are a disaster. As a state, Illinois remains on the brink of financial collapse. Such is socialism.

Phleger (you all remember him) -- you've been there FOREVER, supposedly dedicating your life to ending "systemic racism" in Chicago...either you have no idea what you're doing or you are part of the problem b/c you continue to enable this horrible circle of violence. Whitey has nothing do with what is happening in Chicago. The black community needs to look internally.

In Chicago, black lives don't matter (BLDM) as long as blacks do the killing. In fact, no life matters. Systemic racism? Maybe a few bad apples among the police, but let a white person take a stroll through parts of Chicago and you will witness systemic racism! Why are there no-go areas of the city? Bad apples among the police? They should be identified and eliminated. Get rid of the union and let Chiefs fire bad apples. All lawbreakers are bad apples. Of course lawbreakers would like to see police defunded and eliminated. Sure, eliminate police and let the criminals police the neighborhoods. Back to the mafia days, when you had to pay for ''protection'' or else your business or home would be destroyed! That will really make people happy!

Paywall, so I can't see where these crimes are taking place. But I don't need to. On the north side of Chicago, luxury high rise apartments are going up everywhere. People are out jogging or walking their dogs. There is a line to get into the Whole Foods. There is no fear of street crime or getting shot. All of the crime is in the south and west sides, where the population is majority black. Our black mayor and her black police chief have done nothing to stem the violence there. Many people are just resigned to it. One thing is certain. Without more, not less, police presence the situation cannot get any better.

But nowhere does the article say it: NONE of the shootings were by police. There hasn't been a police shooting in Chicago in 3 months. However, YTD in Chicago 239 people have been shot and killed. Of these, 72% were black, 18% were Hispanic. Only 3 were killed by police and NONE were unarmed. Nationwide, in 2019 only 9 unarmed black men were killed by police officers. A young black man in America is FIVE TIMES more likely to be struck by lightening (49 per year) than to be killed by a cop (9). And in Chicago, his chances of being shot by a cop while unarmed are even less (virtually nil). America has a culture problem, not a race problem. There is a subculture of promiscuity, illegitimacy, ignorance, violence, and failure that cuts a wide streak through the black community and it is glamorized and popularized. It used to be countered by the presence of tens of thousands of blue collar and trades jobs, but when the steel mills and auto plants and factories closed, there was little left to keep it in check. Until this culture of failure is addressed nothing will change. The South Side doesn’t need community centers and Obama libraries. It needs private sector jobs and that means factories. https://heyjackass.com/

This illustrates the total and absolute hypocrisy of the BLM movement. Thes 18 don't matter one bit because they were black on black killings is a city where they are all racist and as long as they kill each other then there is no systemic racism. It is totally cool acceptable and in their world totally normal. These are statistical numbers and have no impact. If it was white men killing black men, you would see them burning and looting 24 hours a day. There will be no 18 memorials on live TV with Biden Romney and Hillary showing up eulogizing how wonderful these young people were. How wonderful they all were. How they all had plans to graduate from college and become engineers doctors lawyers and astronauts and work at their local senior centers and volunteer at food banks and tutor young black children in math and science. None of that. Because those black lives don't matter worth a crap because they didn't lose their lives at the hands of a white cop. Pound sand BLM.

Seven people, all from different households, not only gathered for Thanksgiving but distributed to the media pictorial evidence of them flouting mask mandates and social distancing edicts. No governor yet claims jurisdiction over the International Space Station but the astronauts have a lot of explaining to do when they return to earth. It’s not as though they lacked for space. Governors ordering around people 250 miles above their states seems far-fetched. But so, too, did the notion of governors usurping the role of legislatures. Eight months after the initial coronavirus lockdowns, citizens docilely accept the idea of a single person dictating the laws that govern millions of people.

The practice of democracy in our constitutional republic flourishes in the presence of contradictions. Democracy, itself, is bound by our inalienable rights, bestowed to us by our Creator. These rights, not given to us by our government by any majority or by any vote, cannot be rescinded, for they were not wrought by man. Voting is a contradiction for it is both public and private at the same time. Its process is intended to be secret, but transparent. Its agency is intensely partisan, but its effect is intended to be unifying. The legitimacy of voting must survive despite the contradictions intrinsic to the process.

Will Judge Emmett Sullivan accept President Trump’s pardon of General Michael Flynn? No one has suggested that possibility, other than The New York Sun. The general’s case, though, has become a bonfire of the vanities of one district judge who has denied the presumption of regularity to an official act of the United States government — meaning Attorney General William Barr’s attempt to drop the case. So why would Judge Sullivan credit President Trump’s workaround of a pardon? We understand, the pardon could be the least fettered of all the powers that the Constitution grants to the president.

Many conservatives have moved their social-media accounts to the more freewheeling Parler, and often have slammed the supposedly monopolistic Facebook and Twitter as they’ve decamped from those sites. I have chuckled at some of their overheated parting rhetoric — especially the widespread misunderstanding about the meaning of the word “monopoly.” A monopoly is, as the Oxford dictionary explains, “the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service.” Quite obviously, if one stops doing business with a company and heads over to its competitor, then the previous company is not by definition in exclusive possession or control of a service.

I keep calling him general, but my, my—the guy who runs that outfit over there,” Biden said.(Snip) Earlier at the event, Biden mentioned the Defense Department leader by his name, “Secretary Austin,” while appearing to read from a teleprompter.

I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.

Rep. Steve Cohen vowed to renew the push to remove former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover’s name from the bureau’s downtown Washington headquarters, according to an interview released Monday. Appearing on Yahoo! News’ Skullduggery podcast, the Tennessee Democrat said the effort is getting a fresh look after the release of a new movie highlighting the FBI’s secret program to discredit civil rights activists. The Washington Times in 2019 first reported Democrats’ bid to strip the longtime FBI director’s name from the bureau’s headquarters. Mr. Cohen said the impetus to revive the bid is the new movie, “Judas and the Black Messiah.” The movie details

“There must have been a moment, at the beginning, when we could have said –-no. But somehow we missed it.” Tom Stoppard The millions of Americans who were paying attention throughout the 2020 election campaign all became painfully aware of the fact that Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities were slipping and slipping fast. His wife, as the person closest to him, should have been the one to call the campaign quits in order to reduce stress on the man. Instead, apparently so anxious to become the First Lady by any means necessary, Mrs. Biden continued to push her failing husband’s campaign forward as if he were mentally qualified.
