Donald Trump has ordered the military to remove 9,500 troops from Germany, a senior U.S. official said on Friday, a move likely to raise concerns in Europe about the U.S. commitment to the continent. The move would reduce U.S. troops numbers in Germany to 25,000, from the 34,500 currently there. The official, who did not want to be identified, said the move was the result of months of work by America's top military officer, General Mark Milley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, and had nothing to do with tensions between Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel,

Didn't realize we still had 9500 there. Might as well bring back the other 85.

For 75 years we have poured our troops and treasure into defending Germany. And, the USSR died 25 years ago.
Why are we still there?
The Germans have only 200 MBTs and fewer than 50% of their 75 military jets are operational. Poland could march through Germany for a change.

The idea was to have troops and material propositioned for a European conflict. Once that goal is reached there is no reason for many more troops. Mission creep is what inflated the numbers and the 'never cut' attitudes of upper staff military is what keeps them there. Well, there's a new sheriff in town. :)

The generations in Germany that had a true, grateful appreciation for America's role in their rescue, are fast dying away. As the Cold War ended and American troops started leaving Germany, the Germans had a saying for the Americans: "You will always have a suitcase here." -- meaning: "you will always be like family to us and are welcome back anytime." I'm afraid that the appreciation for American troops is being replaced by a sense of entitlement (We are worthy of you being here). I was blessed to have first visited there in the early 90s when Americans were still loved (by many) for simply being Americans. However, there was a growing trend among the young to put down America and derisively refer to us as "Amis".

As I posted on an earlier version of this story, there are very few combat troops there anymore. As someone mentioned, most are what they call Base Support Battalions which are intermediate support facilities for rotational combat units to Poland and the Baltics for NATO exercises. And, to be frank, the support structure was also retained to provide for a large number of retiree homesteaders for medical, dental, etc. I would say the demographics of that population has been trending downward at a good clip, so bring the troops home. #3 is right. Poland is in good shape. The days of NATO muscle flexing are are over.

This is great news. We can also dispense with the national security advisors, the State Dept bureaucracy, Esper, and the FBI, just so the coup's against our president will stop.

Trump demilitarizes the world, enraging the peaceful leftists. Had Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Hussein done this, he'd have won a second Nobel medal! FTA: "Andrew Weiss of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said the move was a 'huge gift' for Russia. 'With one fell swoop, Trump is showing once again that our alliances are nothing more than a political plaything,' Weiss said on Twitter." Peace-loving German officials also are enraged, as this reduces their budget for supporting Replacement-Germans from Africa and the Middle East.

I have relatives in Czechia and they hate Trump. Why? They get their US news from CNN and BBC. They still think 0 was the greatest and my infrequent communications don't begin to influence them. They probably believe I am one of those privileged white supremacists they hear about so often.

What would European countries look like if they didn't have the U.S. shelling out the billions in defense money over the last 60 years. They had no need to pay for defense because Uncle Idiot was there to defend them. No wonder their train system is so wonderful, they used the money that would have normally gone for defense to build a great train system.
