The Pentagon has told Washington D.C.'s National Guard and guardsmen from other states who have are in the nation’s capital not to use guns or ammunition. The order came from Defense Secretary Mark Esper and made without consulting the White House, The Washington Post reported, and it's seen as a sign of de-escalation of the federal response to protests that sprung up in the wake of George Floyd's death.(Snip) The official said on condition of anonymity that Esper had made the decision and the troops would be heading back to Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Drum in New York.

Esper is a deep state liberal. He was a defense lobbyist. He is now trying to undermine Trump. My guess is Trump will fire him within a week.

Is Esper making them wear a special round badge with smaller and smaller circles on it with a bullseye too? Maybe he should model one just to see if it is a good idea. He may like it.
These idiot liberals are doing nothing but make matters a whole lot worse for now and especially in the future.

Since this is the Daily Mail via the Washington Post they have little interest in accuracy or getting facts right...I assume the National Guard has a Quick Reaction Force for quick reinforcement..and if not needed send the active duty soldiers back home...for numerous reasons this should be a police and National Guard show

I keep wondering if they are trying to leave the President undefended so he may be assassinated. I keep being reminded of Benghazi. Mark Esper proves yet again the real backstabbers in Washington are the Republicans. Trump needs to fire this guy immediately.

Seinfeld fans will remember when George was trying to get fried from the Yankees by dragging their Commissioner's Trophy around the parking lot behind his car. Seems like Esper is doing his adaptation.

I'm retired Navy. I actually agree with Esper. Clear out the National Guard. Let these cities stew in their own juices. It's about time the blue states experience some consequence for their mindless, thoughtless, leftist policies. I'm past caring. They should not receive a dime in any additional funding. BUT, having said that, Esper's gotta go, and the sooner the better. General Douglas MacArthur was fired by Harry Truman for his insubordination (it had to be done, and I'm a great admirer of the general.) As military members, our oath binds us to obey the orders of the President of the United States. Esper should do the honorable thing and tender his resignation. If he has any honor.

If Esper did this without Trump's consent then he has to be fired. It almost seems as if Esper wants to be fired in an effort to become a martyr.

Riot situations normally have troops with firearms and bayonets. There are designated marksmen with ammo. That person is normally under the control of an officer or senior NCO. I wonder as they are normal citizens of that state if they can conceal carry?

Memo to Esper: you have not been elected. You serve at the pleasure of the President. Apparently you do not know the difference. Pack your garbage. Who the heck do you think you are?? You have been appointed, and now you are joining the ranks of Mattis another traitor. Neither one of you ever opened your mouth and complained when the Punk was in office who decimated the military and ripped it apart. As General/President Eisenhower wrote: beware of the military complex!!Esper is one of them to beware of!! I hope by next week he is gone!

What message is Esper sending to the anarchists? That's not de-escalation. It will embolden Antifa and make a mockery of the National Guards.

Not unarmed. No guns/ammo. I'm sure there are reinforcement teams that can be armed at a moment's notice, but this is atypical of a military management mindset. Send in troops, but lock up the weapons so no one starts an international incident, or in this case, a PR problem. I.E. Kent State:The Popular History version.

1986 West Point Grad, Engineering degree. First LT Esper was an assistant training and operations officer in what would become Task Force 3-187, the famed "Rakkasans," of the 101st Airborne Division. The mission was to block Highway 8 into Basra and "not let anything come down from Baghdad. - retired Col. G. Thomas Greco who recommended him for a bronze star. But apparently his brain was washed while he earned his Master of Public Administration degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a doctorate in Public Policy from George Washington University. Or in his lobbyist job. Or working for Bush. Or maybe we should be worried about our military academies.
Who knows.

The oldest Marine post in the US is in DC at 8th and I streets, SE. Although the duties of most Marines stationed there are ceremonial, each and every Marine is a riflemen first. I don't suppose Esper is closing the Marine Barracks, Ft. Belvoir, or Andrews but if the headline is to be taken seriously, the Pentagon should be vacated included, including the offices of the SECDEF and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

What good are the National Guards w/o their weapons? Unless they are all trained in martial arts like Bruce Lee, capable of neutralizing their enemy with a one-inch punch. Anyway, Esper is not STUPID. His strategy is to produce as many injuries against the National Guards to change the public opinions for BLM, ANTIFA, and the Looters. He will lead from BEHIND and try to come out as a HERO. And the National Guards? Well they are a Dime a Dozen, but BLM, ANTIFA, and the Looters are the Pioneers, the ICONs of change, and HOPE.

The Brit. Liberal rag known as the Daily Mail is claiming that Mark Esper did all that by himself without getting a wink and a nod from President Trump who is the Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces. How do they know that?
If true, Esper’s move could be dangerous, as the “peaceful” protestors and rioters are planning to have a million person demonstration in DC this weekend. By telling the “peaceful” protestors and rioters that the National Guard will be unarmed could serve as an encouragement to the “peaceful” protestors to try to burn and loot Federal property, along with trying to breach the White House perimeter fence and get into the White House. If that happened it would boomerang on Esper and make him look like an idiot. After the weekend we will know what happened!

This has me concerned. I have the same question as No. 6 - are they leaving the White House open to being overrun? Do they want an assassination? The poor National Guard troops will be sitting ducks to the mob without weapons. A very close family friend is there, guarding the White House. He has a wife and four kids - the oldest just turned 11. I don’t want their Dad seriously injured or killed.
I so don’t like this.
I will pray for my friend, Pres. Trump and our nation this weekend.
