Social media behemoth Twitter announced that it is getting out of the ‘fact-checking’ business and will instead focus more on the “context” of messages after a dust-up with President Donald Trump led him to threaten platforms with new regulations. In as series of messages Tuesday evening, platform officials and co-founder Jack Dorsey said they have reviewed “Twitter Safety” policies regarding posts that could be in violation of their posting rules, saying the site will now focus on “context, not fact-checking” content.
The messages come about a week after Twitter attempted to fact-check a post President Trump made about mail-in vote fraud and then labeled another tweet as having “glorified violence.”

Sounds as if Twitter and its lawyers are simply trying to come up with more nuanced ways to censor conservatives. But if, at the end of the day, Twitter is still deciding (for whatever reasons) which opinions are fit to print and which are not, then nothing has changed.

Trusting Twitter to be fair and even-handed with its conservative subscribers is akin to a customer in a greasy-spoon diner trusting the cook not to add anything “special” to the soup.

FTA: ...Twitter announced that it is getting out of the ‘fact-checking’ business and will instead focus more on the “context” of messages ...
In other words, "We don't want to let facts get in the way of the message we want to send. The facts are in conflict with our agenda."

Twitter is lucky that Donald Trump finds them to be a useful tool because they can easily be shut down. Having the word "media" in their description keeps them in the same filthy category as most of our "news" sources, fake, biased and Leftist.

In other words, if the context of the tweet is conservative, it's going to be censored.

The only change will be how they describe their censorship.

Trump needs to kiss off Twitter! They will lose Millions of followers if he does that! He needs to put 100% of his attention to the problem at hand, namely, the Riots in states all over this country. Maybe he should give a heads up that IF the Riots do not end tonight, tomorrow the Military will be in place to stop them. Enough is enough!

I think Twitter realizes it stepped in a pile of poop when it messed with PDJT.

Recently, I read a great article, "Trump and the Tech Tyrants" (I believe it is also on You Tube), which defined the terms "platform" and "publisher" as used by the social media sites. (Notice how Twitter refers to itself as a platform.)
My interpretation of the piece:
A Platform passively receives material, cannot censor content, and cannot be sued.
A Publisher receives material, behaves like an editor, can censor content, and can be sued.
Please, try to find time to read or watch on You Tube. I did not do it justice, but social media plays such a big part in our lives -good and bad - like this week - that I thought it important to post.

The Twitter threads I've read are mostly garbage, but they do include a lot of back-and-forth, so anyone reading the thread is exposed to more points of view and "context" than a typical piece of "respectable journalism" would provide. But then, Twitter is not seriously interested in facts or context, that's obvious.
