Tensions have exploded in recent days between President Trump and a batch of current and former military officials who are critical – to varying degrees – of how he's handled the unrest in the wake of George Floyd's death in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department.
The officials, including Trump's current Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, his former Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and several others, have either implicitly broken with Trump in statements on policy or explicitly denounced his leadership — and Trump has fired back.

Military "leaders" have NO jurisdiction in the affairs of our domestic civilian populace. When they were given some input, we got the Branch Davidian inferno in Waco, TX.

Should we be more concerned about wearing face masks to guard against China's virus, or about rioting in the streets, or about an obvious coup attempt by deep-connected elements of our own government? Perhaps they're all of the same cloth.

I grew up in the military on military bases and it dawns on me the question to ask Mr Mathis, IF a similar insurrection or even peaceful demonstration occurred on a US Military base. What would the reaction be by the Commander?
Betcha it isn't smile and wipe their noses. I clearly recall what happens when anyone steps out of line on base.

I was so glad Mattis was let go. Now let Esper go. When a cabinet officer mistakes his position for the presidency, it is time for them to go.

Strip them of all those perks the upper brass grab for themselves. Plenty of justification for doing that. Especially in Esper's case.

Mattis is another disgruntled former Trump employee who was fired because he wanted to keep troops in Afghanistan indefinitely. Predictably, he has now written a tell-all book and needs to generate publicity to sell it, hence the current empty and disingenuous platitudes. He may also be auditioning for a potential post in a potential Biden Administration where he will be free to send Americans back to the unending Middle East wars.

Military leaders are not supposed to go public with their views. Trump should take action similar to Truman's dismissal of General Douglas MacArthur.

Would they feel the same way Ike and Kennedy used active troops to protect black kids going to school?

Hey Tyler, you genius, tighten up your man bun. More, tighten it up more. Good In case you missed it, Trump is a military figure. It's called commander in Chief. Unless he issues an obviously illegal unconstitutional order the "military figures "can carry it out or resign. THEIR CHOICE.

Not sure Esper is in disagreement with Trump, just stated he didn't think we were there yet, with regards to sending in U.S. military troops to augment the National Guard.
Mattis is a different issue, as I believe he ended up making comments prior to hearing all of the actual information - that no tear gas was used. He now looks like a hack as a result, and useful idiot for the MSM to use.
And, isn't it convenient that Mattis comes out just when the Senate had Rosenstein testifying yesterday, and the committee has now authorized subpoenas with regard to the baseless un-masking of Trump officials.
Barr and Durham are likely "over the target".

Goodby James Mattis and good riddance. You may have been a good military man in your youth but you intelligence has waned and you need to enjoy your retirement. President Trump is doing exactly what those who elected him want - Civil Order!! He must do whatever it takes to establish that then we can have peaceful protests. Do you get that old man?

It's amazing how these senior military leaders who have had an overdose of military and civilian education seem to think they are all Alan Dershowitz constitutional experts now, yet can't seem to win a war. And why the reminder of service members' constitutional duties Gen. Milley? We get it, but heck, if you had any guts at all you'd resign and run for President. Lesson for Trump and us: appointing a civilian service secretary will not fix the mess which has overtaken the military services. We need generals/flags who know how to watch their lane and develop a winning fighting force. Get these guys out of the goofy fellowships at civilian, commie universities and back to the field.

To build on #8, As a retired General Officer Mr Matis is subject to recall as long as he is taking retirement pay. One option is to recall him, take a star and cashier him right back out for insubordination.

Military figure heads placed there by Obozo. Let's quiz these clowns about what exactly they would have done. Join the protest? Unless they're ready to confront these people who clearly have an anti-American agenda and are willing to stop them with force. Then shut the f up or resign.

Unlike these Generals, Trump is willing to put his name on the line by making hard calls. Esper and Mattis wouldn't wipe their own bottoms without the CIC say so.
