When Los Angeles was plunged into a budget crisis earlier this year, progressive activists demanded that the City Council slash spending at the Police Department, saying it’s wrong to boost funding for officers while cutting other urgently needed services. (Snip)Activists with Black Lives Matter, Ground Game LA and other grassroots groups say incidents in recent days where officers have used aggressive tactics including projectiles and batons only reinforce the need to defund the LAPD.(Snip)Akili touted an alternative spending plan for City Hall, dubbed the People’s Budget, that would cut the vast majority of the LAPD’s funding. But other community leaders, and at least some elected officials,

Community organizer Greg Akili has been at this for a long time. At 70something, he just keeps on keepin’ on. Here is an article on his suing the Police Commission in 2016 and there are other similar events. His photo shows an Obama look. No dreads or dashiki for him, he’s i a navy blazer and dress shirt…hat, not cap…no hoodie…. He has been a regular at Police Comission meetings for years. He is very often disruptive, something he believes he has a right to be...

This is new? When taxpayers get reluctant to give cities tax increases due to profligacy the first things they cut are ??? Police and firefighters.

Take all police out of the inner cities. Also keep out firetrucks and ambulances because they will be called out fraudulantly just to destroy the vehicles and kill the employees. Let them decend into chaos. Won't take long. After they destroy their city they will try to fan out and destroy yours too.

I'm moving to the ALL-American state of Texas for safety and prosperity.
The rest of the states can suffer under liberalism.

After watching cops kneeling before protesters in agreement at some of the most untrue rhetoric in Dallas and Houston, it won’t just be LA where this idea spreads!

My brother just bought in a high-end gated community in South Carolina with armed security. The agent said that the phone has been ringing off the hook with wealthy looking to move out of the cities since the unrest began. This is not going to turn out well for urban areas.

SInce the police are going to stand around and do nothing, why fund them at all? As the felons are not going to be jailed, why fund the judges? As the Mayor is going to do nothing, why fund the Mayor?

The Mayor's office has not responded to questions about any cuts in the Mayor's personal security detail as a show of solidarity with the insurgents.

Here's yet another reason we treasure our Second Amendment.
Perhaps once the government officials, politicians and legislators and advocacy groups need to provide their own security, perhaps then they may just discover why civil society relies on trained police agencies to guard and protect and maintain order.
Aside from history books, you can read "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. Well, as a matter of fact, just look at what transpired over the past few days.
I've said this before, but we need to remember, civilizations which develop over a long period of time, laboriously, with difficulty, with pain and grief mixed in with joy and satisfaction. But they can collapse very quickly, very quickly. The tell-tale signs of decline have been detected. One of the first signs is the lack of public spiritedness, then patriotism begins to fade, followed by a general weakening of traditions -- religion and culture-- including the family.

The people in the inner cities KNOW the police are all that stand between them and real evil. Getting rid of police is the LAST thing they want.

They can change the motto on the LAPD police cars from “To protect and to serve” to Surrender and retreat. Police to be replaced with Quick Response Social Worker Volunteers.

I want to watch a video of a "quick reponse social worker" responding to an armed robbery in progress. THAT ought to be kinds fun.
If they actually do this, there will be lots of blood spilled. And I hope that everyone in the LA area already has their effective means of self defense in hand, and enough ammo and skills to make it work.
Good luck. You'll need it .

So the “protesters” flocked to Mayor Garcetti’s home in posh Hancock Park - aerial video showed a very, very large crowd - and he folded.
The misguided writers describe BLM and others as “grass roots organizations”. They are not. That is why this “defund the police” is running rampant through many states - and it didn’t just begin in Los Angeles or California. These activist groups are nationwide. Some, lke Antifa, are worldwide.
