Freedom Inc. isn't shy about pushing its radical rhetoric.
The Madison-based nonprofit has advocated for the release of all African Americans from jail and the defunding of police departments. As for the current protests, the group's leaders say "all actions against racist state violence are justified.” (Snip)"Thank all the youth freedom fighters who were in the streets fighting (Sunday) night and Saturday night," said Mahnker Dahnweih, community power-building coordinator for Freedom Inc. "Every action is a contribution to liberation.”(Snip)Records show that the state has awarded contracts and grants worth $3.6 million to Freedom Inc., which advocates for minority and LGBTQ communities, over the past five years.

Madison is a festering hotbed of extreme leftist politics, and has been since the late 60s. In 1970, when I was in college (elsewhere) leftist radicals bombed a campus building and killed one researcher and injured several others, IIRC.
That the state gives taxpayer money to a group like this is a travesty.

I'm surprised the Journal-Sentinel has allowed comments on this article, and there are some good ones.

Just democrats funneling taxpayer dollars to themselves, as usual, nothing to see here, move along....
So who gets at least fired in the state bureaucracy for this?

Grant funds should be awarded only after a panel that includes local voters, including small business owners, educators, community representatives have looked at the grant applications and what the money will be used for and also assessed the local reputation of that nonprofit before awarding the money. it should never, ever be left up to politicians to award this money. This same process has to happen at the federal level. It would be cumbersome, but there has to be some way that the citizens get to review the awards before they are made. That is that only way we can make sure that huge grants and contracts are not awarded to family and friends of politicians - which is what happens now.

Madison. My only experience with Madison was that when I was a student at Marquette Univ. Back in the mid 60's some classmates and myself went to Madison for the weekend. I was sucker punched by some black guy.I fell and fractured my skull,I was out cold for a day. An early example of polar Bear hunting.

All of the liberal Democrat run cities seem to be in the process of self destructing. Can't believe that most of the citizens of these cities are ok with that.

The true scourge on our democracy is the taxpayer support of domestic propaganda and partisan organizations that seek to undermine the very institutions that this country was built on. I’m sick and tired of our elected leaders not doing their jobs. Republicans in Congress and the Senate: resign! We no longer want you to fail to represent us.

The police should be defunded, and private businesses diverting that money to hire private security to defend their liberty and property. The police are not doing their jobs, and should not be paid. They should be stripped of their positions for their disgrace.

That's great. Defund the police department and let all of the violent criminals out of jail. They're in jail because they commit over 70% of the murders in the county. So for all you people in the black community, when you call 911 after one of your children have been shot, don't be surprised if you get the dog pound. Be careful what you wish for. People forget who is committing all of the crimes in this country. Better wake up soon.

No taxpayer dollars should go to ANY social program, because invariably, it's going to offend someone or go against someones belief. The government should not be in the charity business, if an organization is important enough to exist, it should be able to generate private donations. There's better use of tax-payers hard earned dollars.

You get a rouge cop, a complete idiot, who commits a horrific crime and they say all cops are brutal. Its not good enough that the cops have been arrested and the murderous cop will get life in prison. Yet blacks commit over 7,000 murders a year, thats right, over 7,000 murders, and you can't say a word about it or they'll call you a racist. Democrats want you to believe all blacks are in prison because they were jay walking. And these anarchists want all criminals to run wild in your communities. People better wake up soon if you knw what good for you.

There are many smart black people and people of color, but I don't think there are many up in Wisconsin. Go ahead, defund police, get rid of them. People aren't going to like living in a community where there's no law and order. Some can hire private security firms, but without law enforcement (and it's not impossible to have good police officers, they simply need to get rid of the bad ones), you'll lose any kind of tourist dollars that support the community because no one wants to go where it's not safe. No new business will come in for the same reason, and business that are there are going to leave because it's not safe. Then people who have homes, who pay property taxes that go towards maintaining streets and the hospitals, they're going to leave because it's not safe. And all of those who want the cops to leave and be defunded will be left to tend to your lawless utopia and can wallow in your continued self-pity as your city melts down around you because of neglect. Go look at Detroit - examples of your utopia are everywhere. So destroy what you've got, blame everyone else because you won't be able to police your own.

I say they pick a couple of large majority minority, and I mean 70+%, cities and give that defund and abolish the police idea a whirl for 5 years. Then we can all see how this proposed solution goes.

Apparently, all cops are bad, all white people are racists that enjoy their white privilege at the expense of the poor, angelic blacks, and any gun owner is a murdering terrorist. Yet we can't judge blacks, even though they commit 70% of the crimes in America or muslims because of the bad acts by many of them. Do I have it right?
