President Trump signed an executive order on religious freedom Tuesday as Washington, D.C. Archbishop Wilton Gregory slammed the president and first lady's visit to the Saint John Paul II National Shrine amid the protests taking place across the country. The executive order has not been publicly released but a senior administration official told Fox News it was meant to protect “people of faith around the world.”(Snip)Earlier Tuesday, Trump and first lady Melania Trump paid a visit to the National Shrine in Washington, a place of prayer for Catholics. During their visit to the shrine, they laid a wreath under the statue of Saint John Paul II.

If it's a place of prayer for Catholics, then what the heck is a "woke" Archbishop doing there? Doesn't he have meetings to prepare for with his communist Pope?
Is that harsh of me to say so? Not any more with the outrageous leftist tilt of the Church in the last few years. They should be down on their knees giving thanks to God for the one American leader who is courageously fighting for their rights.
And by the way, Your Wokeness, give our regards to that paragon of Catholic virtue Nancy Pelosi. You might ask her how many innocent souls her abortion mills have dispatched and dismembered lately.

Now if a Communist wanted to visit the Shrine, fake Archbishop Gregory would have been there to give him the tour. This guy is dumber than a box of rocks

Unless President Trump was tooling around DC a bunch yesterday, I believe his walk was about 1/2 mile to St John's Episcopal Church, not the St John Paul II Catholic Memorial more than four miles away.
Silly Bishop. St. John Paul II was a true leader of the Catholic Faith. The current Pope and his minions couldn't dust off his shoes.

Wow these so called people of God are sure judgemental as to who and who cannot visit their domains. St. Johns Church and now Pope John Paul II shrine. Pope John Paul II would have welcomed President Trump with open arms.
But these people representing different religions are sure touchy and hypocrites. They should sit with the President in these troubled times but nope they only criticize. Everyone be careful who you take counsel from because these seem like not exactly people of God. But opportunistic and political.

Didn't John Paul II and President Reagan collaborate to bring about the demise of Soviet communism. I think that President Trump would be welcomed at his shrine with open arms. The current Archbishop sounds as if he's been taking lucidity lessons from Creepy Joe. He has his foot stuck in his mouth halfway up to his kneecap.

The Washington Archbishop condemned President Trump’s visit, finding baffling and reprehensible that any Catholic facility would be egregiously misused and manipulated in a manner violating their religious principles that call them to defend rights of all people even those with whom they might disagree. Further that Pope John Paul II “would not condone the use of tear gas and other deterrents to silence, scatter or intimidate” for a photo opportunity in front of a place of worship and peace.
- Defend rights of all people... / What about the rights of President Trump? Does he not have any rights as the President, a citizen of this country, a child of God?
- Use of tear gas... / The Park Police and an independent journalist verified that tear gas was not used to disperse protesters attacking police officers, and that action was taken before the Park Police knew President Trump would walk through Lafayette Park.
- For a photo opportunity in front of a place of worship and peace. / As a child of God, President Trump has the God-given gift of free will to make personal decisions that include visiting holy sites and quiet prayer. Further, God selects heads of nations and, if liberals are so religious, they should know that fact, respect it, and be very wary of the way they have been maliciously maligning President Trump these past four years. Judge not, that you not be judged.

Wilton Gregory is not the only one to be slammed by you guys, include the absolute moron Mariann Edgar Budde. I'll not be giving a dime any longer to the Catholic church until they begin changing their commie tune and the commie pope is gone!

I am RCatholic. Ptooey on the ArchB. Amen to President Trump visiting the Shrine of St. John Paul II. It touched my heart. Then this ArchB wilton gregory condemns President Trump. Best he said nothing than to mouth off. gregory was once head of the NCCB. He is a black priest who might just have some identity problems. He surely does not speak for me. President Trump and Melania go quietly to the Shrine and contemplate. Ptooey ony gregory.

Every President beginning with Madison, practicing different denominations, has worshipped at St. John's. The current archbishop has too much hate in his heart. If he would read Scripture, he would find in Matthew 5, that harboring so much anger and hatred in your heart God sees as murder. Then there's the opposite, if you say you serve Him, you will care for His sheep, and love them; "love covers a multitude of sins." But the Archbishop seems to have little grace in him, he doesn't demonstrate it. Whatever is in his heart, he will reveal in his words and deeds. He seems bitter and angry. This isn't a good temperament for a pastor.
Who knew the "deep State" extends to these clergy and into "houses of worship"?

As a Catholic and an American, I applaud President Trump’s visit with all my heart. I have attended mass at the Shrine and it’s magnificent. What is the archbishop going to do if Antifa decides to torch his church?
BTW, I have not attended mass for a year now because of the communist in the Vatican. I want B16 back!

Archbishop Wilton Gregory is black. No further explanation for his actions should be needed.
It should be easy to see which side he is on
Even if he is defended as not being a racist or a liberal Demoicrat he should have given that some thought before he ran off at the mouth.

I left the RCC in 1969. At 19 I recognized the "Church" was political - power and money. Jesus is just their logo.

Well, of course. The Catholics did not protest the extermination of the Jews either. So, at least they are consistent.

The Catholic Church completely abandoned its flock during COVID-19. They tucked tail and ran, closing their doors to the faithful, thereby denying them access to the Eucharist, weddings, funerals, baptisms, penance, the litany of The Word, and the fellowship of the community. Don’t you dare lecture Donald Trump, or any other American, about violating religious principles, you Marxist demon in clerical robes. Don’t. You. Dare.

Even über-Left Google labels it "St. John's Episcopal Church - Visited by Presidents". Presidents visit that church, and I think the reason for the Episcopal bishop's anger was because now she can't slam Trump for never visiting, even after it was set afire by riots for which they project blame onto him. So instead, she condemns him for visiting.
And I'm glad Wilton's not our Archbishop (ours doesn't lean Left). But I'll cut Abp. Gregory a little slack because as a rare black bishop he often tries to walk the fine line between being a Black Catholic and a Catholic Black, and as a result often reflects neither particularly gracefully.

In fairness, #6, Reagan had a gift for being charming in the middle of conflict. PDJT is gifted in his 'negotiations', but in quite a different manner. I don't know that he would be as successful at navigating that minefield with Thatcher and JP2.

Archbishop Gregory you should be grateful President Trump is so supportive of religious freedom. I hear the president if working on bail reform for pedophile Catholic priests.

#19 - May I remind you that FDR, and therefore America, did not "protest" the extermination of the Jews either. In fact he turned away a ship full of Jewish refugees and sent them back to Nazi Germany. You've repeated an unfounded calumny against the Catholic Church perhaps because you are unaware of some the Church's action during the Holocaust. The Vatican issued over 90,000 passports to European Jews. Catholic monasteries and convents hid thousands of Jews. Dying alongside the 6 million Jews were 7 million other victims of Hitler; including thousands of Catholic priests, nuns and laity. The rabbi of Rome was so moved by the Church's assistance to the Jewish people he converted to Catholicism after the war.
I am also appalled by Bishop Gregory's message and the general cowardice displayed by our U.S. bishops. It is truly a sad day. Blessedly, we have a good conservative bishop but he has demurred to the policies of each county in which a parish is located. I financially support my parish but no longer support the diocese ministry appeal. I'm certainly not happy with our commie pope, but neither he or any pompous clergy will keep me from practicing my faith. The Church has survived schisms and even multiple popes, we will survive Frank. My favorite all-time priest (a convert from Judaism) told me his proof that Catholicism was True; the Faith has survived 2,000 years because of the laity, despite some of the clergy. As Mother Theresa reminds us, "We are called to be faithful."
Let us all pray for our priests, pastors, ministers and rabbis that they may lead us through these dark times. Let us pray for our President that God may grant him wisdom, courage and faithfulness. May God keep him and protect him. May God bless America. Amen.

Not only did the U.S. Park Police state that although protesters were pushed back because some were attacking police officers, tear gas was not used. Neal Augenstein, a multi-media journalist, confirmed that tear gas was never used but smoke canisters were deployed which do not have an irritant in them. He further stated that Park Police did not know President Trump would be walking through the park several minutes later.
