A divided Supreme Court on Friday rejected an emergency appeal by a California church that challenged state limits on attendance at worship services that have been imposed to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Over the dissent of the four more conservative justices, Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court's four liberals in turning away a request from the South Bay United Pentecostal Church in Chula Vista, California, in the San Diego area. The church argued that limits on how many people can attend their services violate constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and had been seeking an order in time for services on Sunday.

Damn the "limits." Go to church if you want to.

So very disappointed in Roberts. This makes it all the more essential that Trump gets reelected. We need a 6th conservative on the Court because Roberts is a Never-Trumper. I simply do not see how an alleged Constitutionalist can say that as long as churches are treated the same as movie theaters and baseball parks, it's all OK. Churches--or the people who attend them--have a Constitutional right that these other venues do not. To me (and to the dissenters, led by Kavanaugh), it's a no-brainer.

I cannot believe that Roberts voted with the Dem traitors--especially on such a common sense, fundamental question such as this.
I might understand if Roberts wimped out on the overthrow of Roe v. Wade, but this was a case of leftwing tryanny and anti-Christianity. I don't see the California cops going into the mosques to count noses....only in Christian churches,
Roberts is a disgrace

If there is one kind of gathering that should be suspended during the Kung Flu epidemic, I would select Christian church services, and Muslim services. (I don't know enough about Jewish services to include or exclude them.)
Muslims pack the men in, butts in the air, pray loudly, spewing droplets of spittle into the air and on fellow muslims.
Christian congregations sing, hug, touch, shake hands, jammed into pews, and many of the denominations distribute the communion wine from a common cup. same with the communion wafer.
let's use some common sense here - and I say that as a practicing Lutheran and former Catholic..

I wonder what sordid information the Bushes found on Roberts before nominating him. None of this happens by accident. David Souter at least had the decency to resign.

We give them one job, interpret the U.S. Constitution regarding legislation passed in various States that violate said document. And obviously, they can't even get that right. Churches have been providing Sanctuary since their inception, in fact, there are still illegal aliens taking advantage of this, without a peep from the Supremes.

IMO, someone in a high place has something on Roberts. Enough to not only control his decisions on the court, but enough to keep him from resigning. His history of siding against the Constitution in important cases is irrational unless you assume there's blackmail involved: against him, against his family, against all he is as a DC attorney, judge and resident. If he were to commit suicide, this would confirm all the above. Even that event is probably considered by the blackmailers. The Epstein case is related to this only by virtue of the potential exposure of the liberal cabal that is the power structure in so much of big government today. The possibility of the Epstein information exposing very highly placed liberal elitists along with its tangents covering others (like Roberts) for embarrassing history, stands as a giant crack in the very power structure of our nation. And who is at the moment the one person who can expose it all and perhaps stop the destruction of this cabal? Donald Trump. So it's all hands on deck, get rid of DT. The Dems are like cornered cats, they're dangerous, but they are cornered, the evidence is mounting, the truth is beginning to be seen by a public previously shielded from it, and in the words used so long by the Dems regarding Trump, the "walls are closing in" all right, but they're closing in on the Dems. The Dems have moved the goal posts so often they've run out of space to erect them on flat ground. Donald Trump is on the cusp of saving the United States just as Abraham Lincoln did during the Civil War. May God protect him.

#10, this is not an Establishment Clause issue. Rather, the issue involves the Free Exercise Clause. Restrictions on religious practices are entitled heightened scrutiny under the 1st amendment. These “orders” are not treating churches and other houses of worship equally with other venues, such as big box stores. Are churches not as essential as Home Depot? Why is a megachurch that seats over 10,000 limited to only 100 people? These allegedly neutral laws fall more heavily on religious practice, thus prohibiting the right to free exercise.

Point #1: The US is trying to avoid looking like it wants soon put all churches out of business, if not an out-right property confiscation.
Point #2: When has John Roberts NOT been a squish, a liberal sympathizer, and just outright Obama-ish in his mannerisms?

Roberts is a totalitarian socialist put in place by the Bush oligarchs. He's a poster boy for the dismantling of the federal judiciary.
