Georgia’s recent spike in new COVID-19 cases likely indicates the virus is spreading and cannot be solely attributed to a surge in testing, a prominent public health expert said Thursday.(snip)“That means by the end of September, by Labor Day, there will be another 100,000 deaths in our country,” he said. “That is a very sobering number.”

Has anyone else heard this line of logic yet? That we're on track to have 200K dead by September? So sick of the fear mongering...and this guy is the hairman of the global health department at Emory University and the dean overseeing physicians at Grady Memorial Hospital. So tired of "experts".

"...likely indicates..." means "I'm guessing because I don't really know." Scratch this one more than skin deep and you'll "likely" find an "expert" aligned with the liberal agenda of the "stay closed until we have a vaccine" crowd. This is getting so tiresome... greyseal

This is why I have despised this rag newspaper for over 40 years. If you go to the Georgia department of health website, the curves for deaths, cases, and moving 7 day averages are all looking like they are dropping off a cliff. I hope the urinal constipation will be the next casualty of the Kung Flu.

Well at least ‘likely’ is an improvement over ‘may’ ‘could’ and ‘possible ‘. Please let me know when ‘fact’ and ‘will’ occur and maybe I’ll pay attention.

The more testing you do, the more cases. More drama.

Some more people will test positive. Some more people will get sick. Some more people will die. Some more people will recover. That's what happens in epidemics. The good will try to minimize the impacts. The bad will try to maximize the impacts. All the hand-wringing and virtue-signaling and finger-pointing and "one death is one death too many" platitudes notwithstanding.

What about the death rate? That is the correct measure because the fact and date of death are certain. If deaths are going down, that means infections from about 2-3 weeks ago have gone down.

^^Following up on last post--death rates in Georgia appear mostly flat. That means no spike in cases in early to mid-May. The "experts" need to wait a week or so to say if cases have in fact spiked in the time frame they are looking at or if it is just the result of testing or delayed reporting.

So, here we are. Pretty much nobody’s going to school on Monday, thousands are working from home, stores are struggling to stock their shelves and health officials are scrambling to respond to an unknown number of patients who will be taken ill with COVID-19. Unprecedented actions taken since Wednesday to halt the spread of the coronavirus, from the total shutdown of K-12 school districts to significant curtailment of public gatherings, will surely have significant social and economic costs.

The White House budget office violated the law when it froze U.S. military aid to Ukraine, the Government Accountability Office concluded in a new report. “Faithful execution of the law does not permit the president to substitute his own policy priorities for those that Congress has enacted into law,” the GAO wrote in an eight-page report. Several witnesses who testified before House impeachment investigators said President Donald Trump ordered the hold on the critical military assistance.

One might think that MSNBC might give Rev. Al Sharpton the day off when the hot topic is protesters burning down buildings. In 1995, Sharpton's protest against the "white interloper" who ran Freddy's Fashion Mart in Harlem led to a fire where seven people died of smoke inhalation (and the arsonist shot himself). Discussing the rioting in Minneapolis on today's Morning Joe, Al Sharpton began by telling protesters that the goal of a fair criminal justice system wouldn't be achieved by "appearing" to be criminal themselves. He warned that people would "exploit" that. A clearly upset Sharpton then said: "As I walked around Minneapolis yesterday . . .
