Widespread testing might not work in
America. We love our ‘freedom’ too much.

Public health professionals are focused on expanding coronavirus infection testing nationwide. “Testing is outbreak control 101, because what testing lets you do is figure out who’s infected and who’s not, and that lets you separate out the infected people from the noninfected people and bring the disease under control,” Harvard professor Ashish Jha says. As Tom Frieden, a former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told The Washington Post, “Our ability to get to the new normal depends to a great extent on our ability to test, isolate, contact trace and quarantine.” Public health leaders are essentially unanimous:

It's interesting that the Left loves the idea of choice in abortion decisions as a health issue. But decries our freedom of choice in not wanting government health care. This issue is a red herring in this discussion. The reason to not choose government health care is largely because it either costs far to much or care is rationed to make the plan affordable. It's a choice not of freedom but of economics and how care is allocated.
I doubt that, given widespread availability of testing which is nowhere near true yet, most people would refuse testing, especially with a good reason, especially in crowded urban areas showing a high infection rate. However, the county I live in has NO infections and low incidence in the broader area surrounding me. Rigorous testing seems intrusive and a waste of resources. Perhaps an initial broad testing program for starting school in the fall makes sense. The problem with government imposition of rules about health is they are one size fits all, even when it DOESN'T fit or make sense. Thus we have fervent condemnation and arrest of isolated people breaking government curfew, not because it is a health risk but because it is a show of government POWER, even when there is no reason to do so.

Makes no sense. Daily testing? Assuming the tests are actually valid, you can be virus free one minute and infected the next minute. The virus is there and waiting. In fact, I think I just heard it say, "Come out, come out, where ever you are!"

This Chinese virus is a strange dangerous disease. A person has to be tested to know if they are sick.

OP - I love how leftists put "freedom" in scare quotes. Says a lot. Trivializes freedom. And it's another Big Liberal Lie. Widespread testing fails on its own merits - not because of resistance to fascism.

Total BS. The virus will run its course whether people are tested or not. I do not care if I have antibodies or not. This philosophy from the high and mighty will die as soon as they attempt to force people to take their test or accept a new and unproven vaccine. We will decide what is normal.

What #6 said- squared! Consider the first in that list(test). You could test negative today and tomorrow you forgot your sissymask and become positive. Or, you misread your tape measure and got within 70 inches instead of maintaining 72. I suppose we could get tested everyday or maybe even mornings and afternoons.....
Look- our loss of liberty is a small price to pay to allow the liberals to vote by mail.....that's the story.

Trying to control this through open ended limitless testing is an asinine fool's errand. It does not require an advanced degree in epidemiology to figure this out. Common sense is enough.

How much money would widespread, ongoing testing represent? Testing won't prevent infection of anyone. Cheaper to test people with a symptom, such as a fever, even though it's not a guarantee. Neither is daily testing of everyone.

"test, isolate, contact trace and quarantine."
I don't want the "new normal. I want the old normal where people went about their lives, shook hands, sat next to each other while eating at restaurants, etc. Some contracted the flu, etc., 95%+ recovered or showed no symptoms and life went on. Get the government (at all levels) out of our healthcare.
