Gavin Newsom: First responders 'first
ones laid off' unless California
gets federal COVID-19 funds

Original Article

California Gov. Gavin Newsom says first responders will be the “first ones laid” off unless federal bucks arrive in the Golden State in the near future. The Democrat appeared to be playing a political game of chicken with Republicans in Congress over the weekend during a discussion about the coronavirus pandemic with CNN’s Jake Tapper. Mr. Newsom specifically had a message for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republicans when asked about a $3 trillion relief bill being “dead on arrival.”(Snip) Mr. Newsom insisted that he was not looking for “charity” or “handouts,” but instead wanted funds commensurate for “Depression-era unemployment

Comments:

Odd tactic. Threatening to close playgrounds and public libraries usually forces through tax increases locally, but those outside California probably couldn't care less what Newsom decides to do. They're well within their rights to choose high-speed rail and illegal aliens over sound budgets.

You know, in the movies when the bad guy holds a gun to an innocent bystander and demands the hero put down his weapon... It's never a good idea for the hero to give in. The villein just keeps demanding more and shoots the bystander anyway.

How about we lay off Newsom, his administration and the entire state legislature. They are responsible for California's financial mess. Instead of begging taxpayers of other states to bail you out, cut spending, morons!! California taxpayers cannot afford your policies and American taxpayers can't either!!

This is what we called the "washington monument" strategy when I worked for the government. If you are faced with a budget cut, you identify something that will have the greatest negative impact as the one thing you will cut to meet your newly reduced budget. The worse the impact, the better because it forces those with the money to back off the budget cut. So if you are the park service you threaten to shut down all monuments and parks rather than say you will lay off admin people. It is an immoral but very common, and usually effective, strategy. I am sure Newsome learned it from Aunt Nancy.

So what happened to "we're the 5th largest economy" if we were a separate country bragging? He's already said he'd suspend the State's payments to their retirement system, and has a host of other items he's looking at too, but those are tough decisions, and they need to protect public service workers BEFORE any other worker, it seems. Maybe he should be looking for an aggressive retirement program to help reduce the highest paid public service employees with lower-cost employees. The problem with his demand, and threat? He and 11 other states already said they needed $1 trillion among them, but the $3 trillion Democrat wish list only allocates $1 trillion for all 50 states. Nancy's $3 trillion proposal looks to be totally created by special interests since it did not go through hearings, committees, etc.. a normal process. When you run out of other people's money....

Not odd at all OP. Democrat governors do this all the time. This is how they punish the residents of their state, by hamstringing the LEO who are supposed to deal with the crime. Former Oregon Governor Kitzhaber cut the budget of the State Crime Lab and the State Police when we refused to let him keep the tax kicker to lavish on his pet projects.

After he announced that he would be giving illegal aliens in Cuba-fornia $500 payments (to make up for them not qualifying for the federal $1,200 payments), he clearly has so much extra money that he doesn't need a cent of federal money. US deaths are lower per million than eight European countries despite having the highest total number of deaths in the world. As of Wednesday morning, there had been 92,000 deaths across America—the highest reported number of any country in the world by far, and more than 1.5million cases. Modelers are now predicting that another 4million will become infected by July 24 and that as many as 290,000 could die in total if social distancing isn't adhered to. But when weighing the death toll up against America's enormous population of around 328million, then comparing the per capita rate to other European countries, the US slips

We both would love to see it, but consider how destructive the Dems' legal efforts to get Trump to testify so they could prosecute him have been for the past three years, and then imagine what could happen if the precedent were set to prosecute future presidents of either party. Such a spectacle would draw worldwide attention and obliterate everything else our country needed to be doing that would have more impact on our country's, and even the world's, future.

About a month into the pandemic, a friend of mine made the perfect observation about human nature during this crisis: We won’t all get infected by the coronavirus, but we’ve all been exposed. That, luckily, includes thousands of people who have been exposed as kind, generous and community minded. People like the newspaper deliveryman bringing people their groceries for free, or the pizzeria owner who took out a line of credit to keep paying his employees, or the teenager who is delivering hot meals to overworked funeral home directors.

Fifty days of strict lockdowns followed by 30 days where measures are eased could be an effective strategy for reducing Covid-19 deaths while ensuring some level of economic protection, scientists claim. In an EU-backed study published on Wednesday, a cohort of researchers from nine countries simulated how various lockdown strategies would impact the spread of the coronavirus. There have been almost 5 million cases of Covid-19 confirmed globally, with over 300,000 deaths from the virus worldwide, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Many governments have imposed some form of lockdown to mitigate transmission of the virus. But policymakers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New data from Johns Hopkins University shows that the Navajo Nation is now leading the nation in COVID-19 cases per capita. According to the data, the Navajo Nation has 2,304 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people. In comparison, New York has a rate of 1,806 per 100,000. New Jersey follows at 1,668 cases per 100,000. In national polling, former vice president Joe Biden is the clear 2020 front-runner. He's up nearly 5 points in the RealClearPolitics polling average; he's up in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida and Arizona. That's because Biden campaigned as the anti-Bernie Sanders: a "return to normalcy" candidate rather than a transformational one. His entire pitch relied on his high name recognition, the general perception of his likability and his unthreatening demeanor. The coronavirus pandemic merely underscored this pitch. Biden hasn't waned in the national polling since the pandemic -- his lead has been utterly consistent. That's true even though Biden has been relegated to his basement, gaffing through completely anodyne statements about COVID-19,
