A Roman Catholic priest in the Detroit area has taken aim at his parishioners in a bid to maintain social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic, using a squirt gun to shoot holy water. Photos posted on social media by the St Ambrose Church show the Reverend Timothy Pelc shooting water into a car window as it stopped by the steps of the church. He wore a mask, face shield and rubber gloves as further precautions against spreading the coronavirus. The photos of the priest at the church in Grosse Pointe Park were taken at Easter but have recently gone viral and have inspired

It's scary how easy it was to indoctrinate the whole world. Massive media coverage, 24/7, for months and so many believe this virus, which did cause some deaths, is worse than any other virus to come along throughout the history of the world. I suspect the death toll in the US is actually no higher than the regular flu this season that killed 60,000.

Oh good grief! Christians have become scared of their own shadows, fake news, and the government edicts. Many Christians should go back and read the book of Acts.

Tom Lehrer's 1960s parody Vatican Rag" needs a new verse. (If you go to Youtube, Vatican Rag is probably available. It is less offensive than the title would lead you to believe.)
I always was intrigued, as an Altar Boy, during a High Mass, back in the 1950s, when the priest would walk up and down the aisle, tossing holy water on the congregants, using a pre-loaded silver stick.

Incredibly stupid and disrespectful. Holy Water is a sacramental, and if he does not know that someone should tell him. He is teaching the children nothing by making a joke out of something good. There is no reason why he could not use the implement for blessing with holy water which must be in his rectory and is always used.

For those interested, the instrument for dispensing holy water to a crowd is called an aspergillum. Using a squirt gun is so silly it borders on sacrilege.

This is Detroit. I know he thinks he is just being cute with this stunt. But if he squirts the wrong gang bangers with that water gun, they are going to respond with real guns!!!!!

Is it still holy water once the priest has put it in a squirt gun? Does the squirt gun get blessed as well?
I am less afraid of the virus itself, and more afraid of people's reaction to it.

As a Catholic, I don't find this distasteful. The idea that you might get totally soaked is not comforting, but then again, you couldn't be MORE blessed, right? For years, I was used to the priest filling up a hollow ball with holes in it on a handle that, when waved, would sprinkle the water. More recently, I've seen priests use a more 'authentic' wand with a sort of hyssop paint brush. Either way, we got wet.
I think the soaker would be faster but I just hope it has a 'spray' setting... different from the 'soak' setting.
