California's Newsom vows
no 'normal' for state

It's almost as if he likes it like this. California's Gov. Gavin Newsom vows to make the coronavirus emergency measures in California its "new normal" unless --- and it's a big if --- a vaccine for the virus is ready. (snip) President Trump has stated that a vaccine may be in place by the end of the year and the press has screamed that the president's projection is overly optimistic. (snip) Newsom, remember, is the guy who first stated that the coronavirus was an opportunity to fundamentally transform the state.

The original objective was to flatten the curve, and not overwhelm the hospital system. Then, was to ensure they could procure enough PPE (personal protection equipment - gloves, masks, gowns). That has essentially been done, and they know there was going to be more infections after that, but now seem to really enjoy their new powers which now looks more like a political ploy to fundamentally change things. As a side note: Newsom ordered 300 million masks weeks ago, at $1 billion cost using a Chinese firm, BYD, an electric vehicle manufacturer - ostensibly due to their connections to get the job done. And was touted as the governor using the "clout" of the States size to get a good deal. The cost of each mask is $3.30 each (normally closer to $0.30 each), but they have not arrived still, and it's likely the original manufacturer was not on the updated approved list by China, thus, unable to be cleared by China customs for export to California. About 750,000 masks fit into a standard 40' container, to give an idea of the volume of containers that would be needed, and have not shipped yet, it seems. They could be trying to ship by air, but that is nearly $18/kilo, at this time. A vaccine is not expected until September, at the earliest.

Actually, this has interesting possibilities. Using his reasoning...dangerous pathogen, high mortality rate, continuing case rate, and no vaccine in sight...this would work nicely to quarantine a very clearly defined at-risk group for HIV/AIDS, namely gay men. Would probably lock down all of the NYT and all the networks, plus a good portion of blue state government leaders and deep staters. But, you know, if it only saves one life...

California is a vote by mail state. This is how you get a dem controlled state with a legislative super majority. Judicial Watch is suing counties to clean up their rolls with more registered voters than eligible voters. Mail in ballots can easily “get lost” if they aren’t pro-dem ballots. We are totally screwed and the corrupt system is now locked in. If I could move out, I would.

Conservatives are happily gloating over the fact that Andrew Cuomo is at, or rapidly approaching, his nadir. (snip) Cuomo's pandering has always been coarse, heavy-handed, and insincere. Though he is hardly a closet conservative, and probably genuinely supports these policies, it has always been obvious that Cuomo manipulated leftist identity groups so that they would have no alternative but to vote for him and make him governor-for-life. (Indeed, until only a few weeks ago, Cuomo seemed to be a shoo-in for a fourth term). Eventually, though, it became clear that the leftist identity-politics groups were getting tired of getting the pimp hand from Cuomo

Meghan Markle, it seems, isn't much of a scholar. While much of the focus has been on her barbs accusing the British royal family of abnormal interest in her baby's skin color and denying him a title and personal security protection supposedly because he is black and they are racists, what's striking to me is how unprepared she was for the royal role she sought when she married Prince Harry. And not just ignorant, but willfully ignorant, proud of her ignorance, flippantly stating she never did "any research," as if that's something to be proud of.

Though the populist tide seems to have ebbed, it will rise again, and soon. The problem that ignited populist sentiment in the first place, whether on the left or the right, remains: the country’s economic and financial system has failed much of the population and is rigged to the benefit of a government-business elite. Resistance to this inequity elevated Trump and pulled the Democratic Party to the left and will continue to roil American politics until things change. The economy’s “rigging” has developed gradually over time and often from the best of intentions.
