Costco, Kroger and other grocery chains are rationing the amount of meat customers can buy at one time as processing at U.S. meat plants has slowed down or stopped completely because of the coronavirus.Costco, a chain known for letting customers buy in bulk, is limiting purchases to three items per member of beef, pork and poultry products.Kroger said its meat purchase limits will apply to select stores."At Kroger, we feel good about our ability to maintain a broad assortment of meat and seafood for our customers because we purchase protein from a diverse network of suppliers," a Kroger spokesperson told FOX Business. "There is plenty of protein

We’ve stopped driving, which slows down Global Warming. We’ve stopped going to church, meeting a key goal of the communists, and we’re forbidden from gathering for political protests of any sort. We live in fear, relying entirely entirely on government to help us, perhaps with a safe new vaccine. So why not pull meat off the shelves and have us sample the delicious and sustainable insects the UN’s been clamoring for us to eat? Crickets, roaches, the list is endless. Maybe more estrogen-laden tofu too, since they say it’s protective against the Chinavirus.

Otherwise, some idiots will be buying new chest freezers and filling two shopping carts with meat to freeze because of "The Meat Shortage"---which, just like the TP Shortage, is entirely fictional, and if there winds up being a shortage, it will be because these folks have bought two years worth to store, and nobody else can get any.
A lot of people are STUPID.

While town people in big dem areas were fighting over toilet paper, those of us in flyover country were processing our own meats, same as every year. How freaking helpless are people? And don't think about coming for ours because meat isn't the only thing we have stockpiled.

Fine. I am sick of hoarders. They have so upset our food and grocery distribution system. Ridiculous people. And greedy people who were apparently reselling paper products like tp at premium prices.

Re #2, and anyone who has eaten frozen meat knows that after freezing most meat has such altered taste and texture that it is not terrific unless drowned in sauces and gravies.

Untrue, #6, unless the meat was improperly wrapped for freezing.

Last week my local Costco was totally out of regular hamburger meat. They had instead (over) filled that space with something in much smaller packages and pricier. Thankfully, Sprouts had a great sale on their hamburger meat (lower than Costco).

Who would have thought that you scare everyone to death, and close down food processing plants (e.g. slaughter houses, potato processing plants) because a few employees get the sniffles, you'd create a bottle neck between the farmer / rancher and the grocery store?

#10 has a gtreat point. If you get meat straight from the store, it may last a month or a little more before going bad. Wrap it up in proper wrapping and it can last a long time. Before I got out of ranching, I had a nice calf butchered at the local locker. It was well wrapped and frozen solid when I picked it up . Was a big calf and I was single, The meat was still great after two years. ! year is more normal though. 6 months or so for pork.

Just got home from the market. While I didn't need meat, so I didn't purchase any, I noticed that the meat shelves were full and the butchers were rolling out racks of meat and restocking the shelves. Pork was on sale, and anyone that doesn't butcher their own, has seen the advertisement for ribs 'previously frozen!' We live amongst a lot of small, local butchers that will butcher your animal, hang it for 12 to 14 days (21 days if you ask nice), cut it to your wishes, wrap it and freeze it. All you have to do is pick it up when they call, load it in your freezer and enjoy it whenever you want. We're not hoarders, but we live in hurricane county, so we generally keep a fairly well stocked freezer. You have to learn how to rotate your supplies and consume the oldest first. As you eat out of the freezer, you replenish. And you look for sales when you do buy. I guess that's one of the bad things about not living in the big city with the elites, it's a tough life, but somebody's got to live it!

Toilet paper isn't the only thing being hoarded. The grocery stores where I live have limited the amount of meat one could buy (just like toilet paper) since the panic started, and that was before social distancing and stay at home. Sometimes what you want is out, and you have to buy something else. This isn't new. Its part of the panic. Shame on Fox and the rest of the media for perpetuating the panic. That's all this article does.
The local TV news runs a slogan 'Facts not Fear'. They are the exact opposite, fear all the time. That's what the media do: They scare people and cause panics. Why? Because instability is good for the Democrats, and its an election year. This is what the Democrats have stooped to. They are tyrants.
NEVER VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT!!!

Ground beef " That's leftovers. It's the stuff that is too tough or fatty to be used any other way. And Kroger's looking for 5 bucks a pound. Not from me. In the same store same meat dept they are selling bone-in rib eyes routinely on sale at $4.99. I'll go for the good stuff.

#6, that is not necessarily the case. If you purchase a freezer it is better to buy a manual defrost one, i.e., where you occasionally take everything out of it, unplug it overnight, and let the ice melt. Automatic defrosting freezers, like the ones in most refrigerators, are continually thawing and refreezing, which is why your food won't be good as long because that constant thawing and refreezing causes freezer burn. Freezers that must be manually defrosted are much, much better for frozen foods. Vacuum packing meat and other things is also very helpful, but if you wrap things properly you should be fine. Also, it's better to have a chest freezer instead of an upright one, since cold air sinks. With an upright freezer the air escapes out. But even an upright, manual defrost freezer is better than the automatic defrost ones.

Greatest country in the world. Probably one of the richest country in the world. Yet we have elected a government capable of creating an environment where we have uneducated citizens hoarding toilet paper and meat while farmers have to dump milk and potatoes. I
Shameful.

We had meat rationing here in Australia weeks ago as morons were clearing the shelves of meat and filling their freezers. Supply seems to be pretty well back to normal now though.
#6 that’s not really correct about frozen meat, I keep meat in my freezer because I don’t participate like shopping and it tastes just fine.

some stores have a "no-return to the shelf" policy once you get to the register. Means these jerks blow if for others because, well they're hoarding jerks.

#22 I can tell you with certainty that isn't the Publix policy. Go backs sit around and then some clerk chats their way around the store putting cold stuff back on shelves. Seen it many times.
I sure hope those in hurricane country bought compressors with their stimulus checks or that hoarded meat will go to waste. They can have all the chicken and ground beef I won't eat.
